Would you like for time to slow down? - GreekIdiot - 26-11-2024 Our custom legacy ticker on the Discord Server and https://api.prtcy.com/date/ changes months every 4 hours, right now. RE: Would you like for time to slow down? - Doc - 27-11-2024 I am of two minds here. I would like to hear other opinions before I vote. Well it seems most are opting for no change, at least out of those who have voted. RE: Would you like for time to slow down? - GreekIdiot - 01-02-2025 In the spirit of working towards legacy and game rules and whatnot, I've reopened this just in case. Everybody seems against changing the pace of game time, personally as a player I wouldn't argue against a 6-hour or even 8-hour ticker. I've noticed that most international RP suffers from backdating and even a general loss of momentum (excluding literally just a couple of cases like WOLS and Le Cafard) because a) players can't meet the fast-pace expectations of intense scenarios due to RL and b) the concept of time is hard to grasp. On (b), it's mostly bias and perception of real-life. We see years move in 2 days so it generally conflicts with our perception of years in the game. We automatically think it's the same perception for Terrans - whereas I've always imagined a year in PT compared with playerbase ability to post 2 times per week in general (ergo 3-4 years) does not mean anything for Terrans. i.e. 4 year election cycles in Terra would be 1 year on Earth - so the perception of Terrans should be 8-9-10 years instead, even more (simply for the reason that 2 days = 1 year atm and most of us can only make 1-2 posts in 2 days) RE: Would you like for time to slow down? - Doc - 02-02-2025 Its a good point and well put about "suffering" from backdating. One side of me understands about "real life" preventing constant attention, while another side of me also knows that if we have the RP planned out ahead of time, and I know, say that this conflict will be over in say 2 years, because we have a timeline, I would be less opposed to backdating because I know that in 2 years I can RP on my main page that the war is now over, here's the results, and then we can write them as we get to them in the conflict thread. But as it is, I can't participate in a lot of RPs because at least in Kalistan, things move forward, and it interrupts the continuity of the Main thread to have to back date a bunch of stuff which I don't actually intend to print as a retrospective. (for example: I did a few things where I brought in the conflict thread centuries after it happened, because I was printing articles from the time in my main feed as a way to say "We looked at History and found this episode which would have otherwise been lost.") And since we aren't dependent on the ingame tick and I am personally literally 2/3rds of the way finished with transferring my 162 page archive in the old forums over to the new one, and since we are RPing elections now rather than going by the mechanic, and I pass bills by fiat rather than having to put them to a vote, my objection to slowing the tick down don't really exist anymore. With one exception. Say we slow the tick down. I think that creates even less urgency for people to get responses in on time. Like: "Eh, what difference does it make? In two days only a single year will have passed." because while I do agree that a lot of the lag is real life, I think, for myself at least, it becomes easy to get lazy and then to forget that you are supposed to be responding to something. I think at least some of it is also writers block: people don't want to write responses that they think will be low quality, so they just don't write anything at all, and really, no change in the tick is going to fix that problem. Make the tick 4 hours, and people will take 12. Make it 8 hours and they'll take 24. Make it 12 hours and they'll take a week. It's just what it is, so I don't know how much of the issue we have with the tick being too short, if we can say that, will be resolved by making it longer. Maybe. Yall can could run and experiment and see if the "real life" thing is what is driving lack of responses, or if it is one of those other things... RE: Would you like for time to slow down? - GreekIdiot - 02-02-2025 Honestly, me neither Doc. We're in uncharted territory, considering. Best we can do is experiment and gather feedback, I guess. RE: Would you like for time to slow down? - Doc - 02-02-2025 Fine, I vote for 8 hours. RE: Would you like for time to slow down? - Zanz - 26-02-2025 Having tried my hand at a couple of posts recently-ish, but also trying to work on wiki-work and having a life outside the game, I support a slowdown. I don't see backdating as problematic but I think especially now that so much RP is going to be one player doing events in one nation, it is very difficult to keep up any sort of pace. I want to keep RPing my bridge collapse in South Dovani but it's now like 2.5 years later in game and I can backdate but the bot's dates for it will be wrong, etc. It would also be nice to be able to have some format in posts (like we do for @UdonNakhonPost for instance) where I could hard code the bot to use a specific date - e.g. if I put like :April 5619 and the bot then set that as the date, it'd just help my little OCD mind. Anyway I'm voting for More - I'd support 8 but I'd prefer1 year = 12 hours or even 1 year = 24 hours. Zanz, just realised. A month change every 8 hours means 96 hours for a year change (12*8). I'm confused with your preference over 1 year = 12 hours (which would mean a month change every 1 hour).
