Himmelshtern becomes independent City-State while Narikaton and Darnussia reform into Dual Republic

August 5704 marked the beginning of the last months of the Triad Republic and has led to negotiations between the transitional government of Himmelshtern and the "central government" in Bannerhafen under the leadership of President Heinrich Berger (VVP). While the attitude of all participants was friendly and dominated by solidarity, it still took until this month, October, to finalize the so-called "Secession and Future Sovereignty of Himmelshtern Agreement." A lot of issues had to be cleared and discussed, many regarding the future diplomatic relationship between the two sovereign nations as well as naturally predominant concerns such as markets or rather the economy in general.
According to the treaty, Himmelshtern will remain in a market-union with the Dual Republic with all former territories of the Triad enjoying freedom of movement, capital, wares as well as several guarantees for the ease of business. For example both the Dual Republic as well as Himmelshtern promised to respect each other's corporate law and are going to recognize future legally-foreign structures among companies in each others territories. Obviously both also comitted to protecting property rights both material and immaterial in each others territory.
On a security level, the City State of Himmelshtern has agreed to a defensive military alliance with the Dual Republic, while this is more of a symbolic gesture from Himmelshtern, it has still been welcomed by the political elite of Bannerhafen. Realisticly this is more of a security-guarantee from Bannerhafen to the City. This fact is amplified by a side-letter to the treaty; Himmelshtern as a new small nation has agreed to sell 90% of its naval vessels to the Dual Republic as it does not have the ability to finance a navy of the size "it brought into the Triad" alone. Conditional to this side-letter is the Dual Republic's promise to keep at all times at least a skeleton naval presence near or in Himmelshtern and to protect its trade access to both Narikaton and Darnussia. Additionally Bannerhafen has urged Himmelshtern to also join MATO, which has recently been created after a meeting shortly before the referendum in August 5704. Even though Bannerhafen has not yet joined itself due to potential legal complications with dissolution procedure of the Triad being in full-swing it has committed to joining the alliance by January 5705.

After finalizing its post-independence relations with the City State of Himmelshtern almost two months of squabbeling in the Senate, President Bigman Berger has managed to finally pressure the GRP into approving the new constitution reinstating the Dual Republic of Narikaton & Darnussia.
The conservatives have made several concessions to the GRP mostly consisting of a constitutional guarantee for allowing Unions to exist, which seems as a minor reform but for Narik-Darnussian standards, this is huge, before this concession Unions where only allowed in very limited circumstances and only for workers in specific sectors, these days are gone now. Other issues have more or less reinstated pre-Triad democratic institutions; Federalization has been abolished and Bannerhafen now again holds all power, the President has been strengthened and can now only be sacked by a constitutional majority in the Senate. In a compromise with the smaller parties, the VVP agreed to learn from the lection that was Schuhbeck and has limited terms for Presidents to three, which means at most a President can serve for fifteen years. Elections are now no longer held by the general executive but by an independent branch which only is overseen by the constitutional committee of the Senate. Lastly, proportional elections have been introduced completely and majoritarian systems in all ways have been abolished which has been well received by the general public.
Berger not only succeeded in passing the new Constitution and forming a steadfest fundament for the Dual Republic, he also immediately gained the support of the Senate for signing the MATO-treaty which means that the Dual Republic is now officially part of this organization. Market forces have reacted positively as rumors and announcements regarding big arms contracts and ease of trade hindrances are expected, Bigman has spoken about “unleashing the economy” and teased economic schemes planned for his second term.

The ratification of the MATO treaty by the Dual Republic, the Yeudi States and Wiel had made immediate waves on the financial markets of Narikaton and Darnussia after it became clear that large weapons contracts would be up for grabs, both the Dual Republican Navy as well as the Ground Forces have already announced that Narikan and Passschiffe have received word to start the production of a new generation of small arms and support equipment while Passschiffe is in intense negotiations with both the central government in Bannerhafen and Wiel surrounding potential Naval works. Military experts consider that while numerous in vessels, the navy needs midline upgrades and maintenance work done before being able to project its full force. Defence Minister Johanna Beidel (VVP) has confirmed that talks are ongoing in regards to building larger ships like aircraft carriers. In any case, local reporters from Vascania have confirmed that the Lavati-Ossel yards have started a recruitment drive to do the already mentioned maintenance for a large chunk of the smaller KS1 (frigate) stock. Good news also came for companies that are known for their developmental experience like NarikMissile Co; Janssen und Koch and Darnussian Aeronautics Limited. These corporations are currently well-into their partnerships with Vanukese partners to develop MLRS and drones for a potential expansion of the MATO warfare doctrine.
The Last time Narikaton and Darnussia have seen such a large increase in arms and industrial material demand had been during its initial entrance into the Jelbic Empire. To fulfil this increased demand, the until recently stagnating Industrial Hub of Red Stad has been approving rezoning requests by some of the largest construction companies fronting factory projects guaranteed by the state as a payer of last resort, it seems that the industrial sprawl around the Red Stad is going to grow even further, much to the dismay of environmentalists and social democrats aligned with the Great Reform Party, they’ve stated their intentions of organizing protests should the VVP consider to progress on the path of rapid military-industrialization. In the meantime, President Berger is enjoying the new gun-crazed population of the Dual Republic which is perfectly happy to embrace the wide availability, Bigman has stated that “we’re totally thinking about liberalizing gun laws, I mean damn dude, look at this, hell yeah.”

The Dual Republic of Narikaton and Darnussia is a nation of intense market and social liberalism, while the latter has been a continuous fight against hosian-conservative remnants within the right-wing parties of the nation (the VVP and the NU or other predecessor third parties further right than the VVP) one of the rights the citizens of the Dual Republic can still enjoy without much government regulation is the right to a consensual dual. According to insiders of the family, they both initially missed their vital organs but instead started bickering about each other instead of seeking medical attention. In any case, they’re both dead, and many centrists have cheered while Thallerists around the world have stated that it is a sad day for the dynasty.
Politically, the repercussions were felt instantly, both Thallerist parties, one of which is in government, have immediately decided to not stand for election in April of 5708, as they’re both dependent on the personalities of the diseased twins, some speculate about a potential merger of the two parties, but political analysts explain that most of the MP’s have already stated their intention of joining – the sometimes as crypo-thallerist described- VVP, so we can expect an additional strengthening of the VVP in addition to President Bergers high popularity.

After the budget has been passed and the private sector has navigated the initial spike in public demand in armoury, the private citizen half of the nation has now started to shift toward a weapons-craze. The VVP with their Senate allies have passed a bill to liberalize the modalities of selling weaponry, more, bigger and modern weaponry can now almost freely be bought in super-markets across the nation. President Berger asked a question to the sceptics of these moves “Like, wouldn’t you like a brand-new shotgun when you step in to buy a gallon of freedom-loving, caffeine-amplified milk?” The President was wearing his recently released MATO merch, marketed and sold directly by a company owned partially by the Presidential Office with the other parts being owned by the Dual Republican Arms Conglomerate.

Apparently, the public agrees, the Dual Republican Information Directorate has published its recent statistics which includes rough numbers on consumption, we can see an immense increase in gun-purchases, apparently already every fifth household now owns a gun and if the trend continues it’ll soon be every third.

During the last weeks, to anyone who was walking in the streets of Bannerhafen or any other town for that matter, it was clearly visible that teenagers and young adults in the Dual Republic have been opting to consume a new energy drink popularized by internet- and social media- ads called “White Liberty.” It has made waves in digital spaces due to marketing in tandem with the contemporary spirit, using short-form, heavily edited and musically enhanced media and political messaging.
Competitors in the soft-drink sphere have voiced their concerns over their rapid increase in market-share as traditionally popular drinks such as Thaller-, Arta- and Rocc- Cola have seen their sales dip as the politically polarized youth of both Narikaton and Darnussia are opting to drink White Liberty as they’re being blasted by ads on their most used smart-phone applications. The company behind Liberty, the Stolz AG, stated that while obviously their views have been hyperbolically expressed, they still encapsulate the core behind their values “Freedom is not negotiable.” That is why they’re using the slogan “Freiheit kann man trinken” (Luth: Freedom is drinkable) and have been attacking far-left ideas such as Communism and the general principle of a welfare state.
Their political positioning has led to their most recent marketing coup as the Bannerhafen-based Dual Republican MATO office has agreed to partner with the company to run joint ads promoting both spiritual and material MATO hype; the responsible mediator between the two entities, the single-man promoter-agency “Geile Sachen” and its mastermind Henno Baustelle in response to some critics of the allegedly unnecessary mixture between state foreign policy and private consumerism said “Don’t bother me I’m freedommaxxing.”

Considering the news-cycle mostly reproducing VVP rhetorics about financial market numbers and record job growth in the industrial sector due to the military industrial complex growing its presence in Red Stad and Dual Republican owned factory districts in Himmelshtern, it is not surprising to see the results of the general election of April 5708. Both the Senate and the Presidential race paint a clear picture, the previously unsure citizens have been placated by Berger’s impressive physique and steadfast policy, the biceps President has led the previous Three-Republics back to one Artanian soul in a peaceful and smooth transition from the Triad back to the inherent dualism of the two brother Republics of Narikaton and Darnussia. The population is looking toward Bannerhafen with optimism and hope, to an even more globalized future of the Dual Republic; while Leftists and Socialists voiced their usual criticism of VVP dominated governments, other critics have only made negative remarks about stepping away from reconciliatory foreign policy stances as recent months have made geopolitics increasingly bipolarized.

The Senate elections were also dramatically influenced by the death of the two Thaller twins, as the result of the death of them led to the merger of the two parties, which now sit at 15% of the vote, which is a lot more than many expected; while the rest of the former Thallerist voters went more or less in unity toward the VVP, the non-Thallerist monarchist movement MTP has profited from their merger too. Social-Democrats did not have a good night as they’ve lost the most aside of the Thallerists which was to be expected as the GRP usually loses votes in times of exceptional VVP performance due to non-aligned voters shifting toward the orange Lion. The Center stayed more or less the same with the LRP making minor gains. Almost the same can be said for the far-right as the NU managed to also make a gain of 1% in comparison to the last election. As already stated above, the VVP is the big winner of the night, finishing with 35% of the vote which results in a 4% gain relative to its previous performance. Looking into potential coalition agreements, the VVP has all options open as they could achieve a majority with the three parties following them percentage-wise; analysts expect them to form a coalition with the UTP-FTL as its continued existence is still not ensured as the Thaller Family Foundation has not yet made a guarantee on its financial support following the results of this election.

A lot less can be said about the presidential ballot, as Heinrich Berger is one of the most popular sitting Presidents in Dual and Triad Republican history with his competitor Björn Jeff barely reaching 21% in the first round. The Grand Reformist Party candidate Jeff ran on a platform of establishing wealth-tax and increasing the corporate tax rate emphasizing social equality above all. While the core voters of the GRP were enthusiastic to vote on this platform, independents were more inclined to vote for Berger who instead opted to run on a campaign focused on Artanian foreign policy, flirting with the idea of continental cooperation and the establishment of a revolutionary Artanian internal market.

After dominating in the 5708 elections, President Heinrich Berger and his VVP have pledged their political capital to set the stage for capitalizing on MATO benefits. The VVP-LRP coalition currently supplying confidence to Berger have a comfortable majority in the Senate and were able to pass many legislative projects without major trouble, while some projects were able to be initiated and finished, other promises made on the campaign trail have not been fulfilled by Berger and parts of the electorate are getting dissatisfied with how the VVP has been developing in the early 58th century.
As usual, the geopolitical and domestic situation in Narikaton & Darnussia has been developing along its traditional power-dynamics but it appears that the status-quo is being challenged. To understand the past few years in all its complexities we’re going to take a closer look at the second Bigman Berger term in the presidential office.
The Existential Promise of the Dual Republic
Political analysts and theorists from the various universities of the sister-republics argued that the stability of the Dual Republic rests on two pillars, the first and most important is the state guaranteeing ample supply of economic opportunities for its citizens, realizing the concept of participatory liberalism appears to be the main goal of the VVP and its conservative allies who’ve shaped the reality of Narikaton & Darnussia for centuries. Berger has managed to fulfil the inherent desire of Dual Republicans to do business. During his second term, Red Stad has been hit by a wave of modernization, while the industrial center of Narikaton and Darnussia has always been efficient especially in specialized markets such as building parts for military shipbuilding, the MATO investment hype has led to expansion and further urban sprawl, much to the dismay of resurging environmentalists within all major political parties. Industrial Titans such as Passschiffe AG and Feuer & Teichmann have formed purchase conglomerates to reshape their factories to the principle of “Industry 4.0.” The main take-away according to their press contents is to optimize production with the increased usage of artificial intelligence, gladly provided by Narikvidia; robotics and real-time data analytics.
Interestingly, in an ironic way, on the other side of the Dual Republic, on the island of Nihaton, traditional textile manufacturers have – for the first time in centuries – reported growth and flirt with the idea of expanding as funnily enough, the international popularity of MATO has led to immense desire to buy merchandise of the organization, according to private Statistics brokers, every third Dual Republican has a MATO flag at home. Parts of the less libertarian groupings within the VVP have started to criticize some of the effects as the traditionally diverse economy of Narikaton and Darnussia is shifting toward a worrying predominance of arms manufacturing as the military industrial sector is supplying large chunks of the alliance with both domestically developed hardware as well as licensed weaponry ordered to be made in Red Stad.
Generally it seems that the political consequences of the current direction of the economy is going to shake up historically entrenched power-structures as sectors which are not benefitting from these developments – for example farmers – are continuously voicing discontent. According to insiders within right-wing circles, there appears to be forming coalition of disgruntled politicians from the VVP and former thallerist factions (which now dissolved) which could shake up the coming elections, elections which have not yet revealed its leading characters as neither the VVP nor the GRP have confirmed their presidential candidates yet and it is rumored that Berger is not going to persue a third term.
MATO expansion
As previously mentioned there are two pillars to the existence of the Dual Republic; the second is the insurance of security. The current political structure of Narikaton & Darnussia has been birthed in an hegemonial interregnum and as such strives toward a certain sense of absolute security; Bannerhafen wants to have guarantees, assurances and if possible as many friends & allies as they can. After the dissolution of the Triad these things came into question, the vacuum has now been filled with MATO and its first wave of expansion with Badara, Dorvik and Luthori has re-assured Bannerhafen about the direction it has taken in this regard. President Berger has sent a formal letter to the respective heads of government to congratulate them on their entrance and to invite them to coordinate and develop MATO doctrines by executing joint troop-exercises and talk about potential investments.
An Artanian Project
Additionally with MATO reinvigorating Bannerhafens interest in its own continent, Artania, President Berger has publicly shared the idea of hosting a conference with Artanian nations to talk about the potential for a new continental project focussing on easing trade hindrances to eventually lead to a fully harmonized and internal market a prospect that would be very attractive to most if not all Artanian nations which adhere to market economies as there is a huge potential for both imports and exports which would increase the efficiency of resource distribution within the Artanian economies. As Heinrich Bergers political capital seems exhausted because this pan-artanian promise had already been proposed during his second electoral campaign and the elections are too close to kickstart such a politically sensitive project, it does not seem like an Artanian Internal Market will be created with the current president but with his successor, making the wait for the announcement of the candidates even more exciting.
Ending with a deal
Berger in an almost pathologic way for the Dual Republic is ending his second term by brokering a deal between the government of New Verham and Feuer & Teichmann to upgrade the recently stabilized nation’s aging main battle tanks to mid-line upgrade versions of them. The exact details of this deal are not available to the public as its more of a private business deal just mediated by the central government in Bannerhafen but apparently Narikaton & Darnussia and specifically Red Stad are going to upgrade the originally Nsanlosa-made tanks for New Verham using its knowledge in R&D recently expanded by working on big MATO government contracts. This deal has strengthened confidence in Berger and the political status quo as such agreements generally do within the Dual Republic but will this be the Bigmans last hurrah?
