Gao Yifen leads governing coalition to victory
This election also marks the first time a Lotus Party candidate has been elected Head of Government since 4335

Chief Counselor-elect Gao Yifen en route to the Grand Assembly

HAZHOU, Shu: Last night Gao Yifen led his party, and the majority governing coalition to a strong re-election. Gao said his majority coalition government is proof that “positive, optimistic” politics are not just a “naive dream.”

"Tonight, Indralans warned politicians that division and radicalism are not the path to a stronger country," Gao said, "only when people come together can we build a brighter tomorrow!"

The New Dawn-Social Democratic-Lotus governing coalition captured 52.09% of the popular vote, an increase from the 4373 election when the coalition was elected as a minority government with 43.42% of the vote. The Lotus Party gained the most seats during the night, becoming the largest party in the coalition. Thus, Gao is expected to replace his Social Democratic coalition colleague Sunada Machiko as Chief Counselor.

Much of the credit for the victory is being laid directly at Lotus Party President Sung Hyo-rin's feet. Long hailed a "kingmaker," Sung groomed Gao to run for the leadership of the party, and propelled his campaign to a stunning victory in October of 4374. When the government dissolved, Sung organized a disciplined, positive election campaign to get Indralans to vote for the Lotus Party after nearly 40 years of declining vote share. It is expected that Sung will receive a cabinet position in Gao's administration.

Chief Counselor-elect Gao Yifen speaking at the Lotus Party election night rally after learning the results.

The republican faction of Indralan politics increased their share of the vote in the election by one percentage point, but remains firmly locked out of power. Speaking on the results, Civic Forum Leader Jiang Zongren claimed that "the anti-establishment and republican parties" must work harder to attract the support of voters. Jiang narrowly escaped a leadership challenge in 4374, winning approximately 44% of the Party Congress delegate votes. It is unknown whether Jiang's hold on power is strong enough following another second-last electoral finish. Additionally, it is yet to be determined whether or not republican politics are a viable route forward in Indrala.

Gao Yifen addressed this issue during his speech, declaring that "when my fellow legislators reject the politics of division, we are ready to work with them for our common vision of a better Indrala."

Civic Forum Re-elects Jiang Zongren
April 4377, Tianan

It is once again Party Congress time for the Civic Forum. Tian'an is once again flooded by orange as the thousands of Civic Forum members congregate at the nation's capital to decide on their party's future. During this Party Congress, the Leadership Election and conference on the Republican Manifesto are the two main highlights.

Cover of the Republican Manifesto

First, the Republican Manifesto. Despite earlier reports saying that the radical and moderate fronts of the party has reached mutual consensus on the contents of the Manifesto, some radicals still pushed forward a hijack of the conference during the Manifesto discussion. Several radical Civic Forum members stormed the Podium of the conference, giving a rousing speech on 'True Revolution' before being pushed off the stage by guards.

However, the Manifesto, as written by the party's central committee, was passed almost unanimously among party members. Controversial topics in the manifesto include calling for the 'Confiscation of all property owned by the royal family' and the 'Criminalisation of claiming nobility'. The Manifesto also laid out a new Indralan political system under Republicanism to be of 'Separation of Five Powers', advocating the creation of five 'Yuans' to replace all branches of the central government.

Jiang's slogan: A Civic Revolution

The leadership contest, on the other hand, was much less controversial. Due to Zhang Wei's announcement to not run in this contest, there was no major opposition to Jiang Zongren. Compared to the contest held after the previous election, the results were very much expected. Thus, the turnout of the contest dramatically decrease.

In this campaign, Jiang clearly tried to re-align to the radicals, as his slogan suggests a 'Revolution'. Meanwhile promises of the re-proposal of a Republican bill, despite the 0% chance of its passage, was repeated again and again during the campaign. The final results are as follow:

Results of the Leadership Contest

Civic Forum is finally, yet unaffectionately, united under the banner of Jiang. However, this re-alignment may prove the first dramatic change in the party's position to begin. The centrist party may no longer be centrist any more, but instead a republican revolutionary front for radical change. The future developments of the party will certainly be exciting to watch.

Indralan Tech Mogul Su Chan found dead in apparent murder
12 July 4370

Candid photograph of the now-deceased tech mogul, who was the CEO of a smartphone company and co-owner of a video game studio.

NATIONAL NEWS: In a stunning revelation, Su Chan, the CEO of Tiger Technologies (虎技术), a smartphone developer and manufacturer, and co-owner of Gold Sun Entertainment, a video game development studio was found dead at his home, the victim of a vicious stabbing attack. From reports publicized by the police, the 49-year old man was preparing for bed when vandals broke into his home and brutally murdered him in his bathroom, having cornered him. Su's lifeless body was found slumped backwards, having collapsed in his bathtub, with the tub "thoroughly stained with blood, along with the linoleum floor", Sergeant Wu Guangping told reporters. This murder comes days after the announcement of Fang Wei, Chairman of the Fang Corporation, proclaiming "fervent" interest in the tech industry. A noted rival of Mr. Fang, Su had allegedly been exploring the oil industry prior to Fang Wei's acquisition of Indralan National Petroleum in 4369. Su then moved to the tech industry after feeling snubbed by Mr. Fang. Sergeant Wu also stated to reporters that the style of the killing was in line with local methods of murder used by Triad syndicates in Tian'an. "We're unsure if it was the work of a Triad, but the evidence seems extremely likely. With as ruthless as Indrala's corporate scene is, I wouldn't be surprised if this would be the work of someone wanting to get rid of business rivals." When asked about the murder, Fang Wei gave a large prepared statement to reporters outside the lobby of his corporation's headquarters. A small excerpt has been included below.

Quote:While I am shocked that an old rival of mine has been murdered, let the record be clear that such slanderous rumors that I would go to such lengths to "eliminate" Mr. Su are completely unfounded. This is not the work of my company. The rivalry Mr. Su and I had was something along the lines of two sports fans. A sort of friendly competition. I had known the man since my conscripted service in the army. Sure, we had our disagreements in the business field and sometimes we grew apart due to such things, but him and I always managed to remain in contact with one another and regularly contributed in our entrepreneurial pursuits. I even gave him co-ownership of one of my father's laundromats, prior to my move to the oil industry. The short answer is, all of this badgering by reporters is completely farcical. Now if you will excuse me, I have more important matters to attend to.

National Police Agency hand over Su Chan murder case to the Supreme Prosecution Service
After collecting "acceptable evidence", the NPA has decided to hand it over to the SPS for the formation of a criminal trial.

Police arrest Fan Yeung, local nightclub owner and apparent hired assassin by the Spitting Snakes, a Triad operating in Tian'an, as disclosed by the police.

TIAN'AN, Han: After police discovered the murdered body of tech mogul Su Chan late last year and subsequently conducting over five months of exhaustive investigation, today, the National Police Agency has officially handed over the case in its entirety to the office of the Supreme Prosecution Service, after having collected "acceptable evidence" from investigations by provincial and local police. Sergeant Wu Guangping, of whom was most warm to reporters, held a statement today at the NPA's headquarters in Tian'an thanking the hard work of his subordinates and successful arrest of Fan Yeung, a local nightclub owner turned assassin. After being detained and subjected to questioning, he revealed that he had been hired by the Spitting Snakes Triad, a "fairly unknown" syndicate, at least to Sergeant Wu. Speaking on behalf of the SPS, Sergeant Wu also disclosed that Fan's testimony had given "very useful results" and that an official criminal trial would be set for June 12th of next year, a month before the Olympics in Nowogard. "The trial will be extended even further over the summer if need be. As read to me by the SPS, the long gap in time has been chosen for Mr. Fan to acquire an attorney and possibly be called in for more rounds of questioning, if it is deemed necessary. At the present moment, more questioning is currently unlikely, unless further significant information on the Su murder case is given to us, whether officially or anonymously. After I had given the SPS the file on the case, they requested that Mr. Fang Wei, of the Freedom Party and the Fang Corporation be called in as a defendant in the criminal trial. Testimony given by Mr. Fan whilst in custody has warranted such matters." The affluent entrepreneur and businessman of Tian'an origin had vehemently dismissed any involvement in the murder of Su Chan, despite the striking coincidences as reported in Taixi Times. When reached for comment, once more, Mr. Fang denied any involvement in corporate sabotage or accessory to murder Mr. Su.

Crown Prince to marry commoner sparking battle in Imperial Palace
2 May 4374

Rumours have emerged from the Imperial Palace that His Imperial Highness, the Crown Prince has been petitioning his father to allow his marriage to a commoner, one Miss Kwan Jiang. This uncommon proposal has sparked a major crisis between palace bureaucrats, priests, servants and the Imperial Household itself. This is evidenced by the fact that this news was able to reach outside the palace walls, a notoriously secretive and taciturn institution.

His Imperial Highness has reportedly asked the common woman to marry him before speaking with any member of the Imperial Household or bureaucrat within the Imperial Household Agency. Thus, without the explicit permission of His Imperial Majesty the Emperor, the betrothal silk sent to formalize the engagement has not yet been sent to the girl's home. Due to this lack formality or recognition, many servants have taken to begging the Crown Prince to question his choice and pick another match.

One servant was so undignified in their duties, it would appear, that they leaked a recording of His Imperial Highness's own words to the media. In the recording, servants were urging the Crown Prince to select a different match when he began to laugh. He then said, "My heart is already promised to her! How could I turn my back on my earlier intentions?"

In the recording, a servant responds, "Your Highness, please reconsider. The people will not be inclined to support such a union," to which the Crown Prince said, "is it not the Emperor's role to be sincere in his duties? Thus, should I not display a similar degree of emotional sincerity and resolution?"

His Imperial Majesty the Emperor, is reportedly in favour of the union, but is having difficulty due to the stubbornness of the Imperial Palace officially to submit to the Crown Prince's determination.

IMPERIAL PALACE FIRES 1,000 SERVANTS, STAFF OVER BETROTHAL CRISIS
1 June, 4374

TIAN'AN, Han -- The Emperor has issued a decree that 1,000 servants and staff within the Imperial Palace would be fired for their lack of submission to the Emperor's edict in support of the Crown Prince's engagement to commoner Kwan Jiang. Most notably, Chief Secretary of the Imperial Household Agency Xi Huanyu has been relieved. All specified servants and staff in the edict were demanded to leave the Imperial Palace within three hours. Despite this, some 100 servants reportedly protested outside of the Hall of Harmony. Officers from the National Police Agency were required to remove some individuals from the Palace.

Nationalist Alliance Rallies Nationalist Right-Wing
May 7th 4380

Above: Leader of the Nationalist Alliance, Qiao Xinyi

As the right in Indrala continues to be predominantly pro-establishment and pro-multiculturalism, a new movement has developed from the unlikely alliance of a businesswoman called Qiao Xinyi and a former diplomat called Huo Hanying. Together, with their associates from across Indrala, the pair have united to create the Nationalist Alliance - a staunchly monarchistic and patriotic party that flies in the face of most of Indralan politics at the moment. Xinyi was elected unanimously by the few hundred party members it has attracted so far and was made party leader with no opposition. She told reporters upon the official formation of the party that "me and the Nationalist Alliance are striving to change the way politics is done in Indrala, and make Indrala about Indralans once again". The party is seeking to cut migration, constrain the budget, regulate businesses and make religion a key part of everyday Indralan life once again.

Xinyi has a checkered past, working as a prostitute from the age of 17 to the age of 23 in order to fund her education and to pay for her taxes, food, water, electricity and rent. Her family was among the very poorest in Indrala, and while she was surrounded by prosperity from her youth in the rich and vibrant environment on Indrala, she could only aspire. "I learnt when I was very young that the world is not kind," she was quoted as telling fellow directors at the insurance firm she briefly was CEO of, "and I learnt that we must all aspire to something better. I found my release in Eliyahu almighty, and I think that spirituality - in any of its peaceful forms - is vital to living a moral life". Xinyi has long said that at the age of 23, as she started to enter the world of real work, she heard the voice of her late Hosian grandmother telling her that if she turned to Eliyahu she would be successful. 30 years on and it seems she might have been right.

Xinyi's religious beliefs colour her perception of the world. She believes that life begins at the point of conception, and thus that all abortion is murder. She also sees euthanasia as murder, while being avowedly against the death penalty regardless of the crime committed. "Life if life," she told party members at the Nationalist Alliance's first ever meeting of members, "and there is never a reason to take life unless it is to save more life. No action that results in a net loss of life should ever be permitted". This may be an extreme opinion to take in an increasingly progressive nation, but this woman's life is filled with extremes of highs and lows. CEO of the country's largest insurance firm, but also open about her inability to becoming pregnant and her 'heartbreaking' divorce when she was only 29. She never married again, saying "I am never alone when I am with my god, and that is a peace I hope that everyone one day finds for themselves".

Above: Deputy Leader of the Nationalist Alliance, Huo Hanying

But the party is not all about Xinyi, as interesting as her life may or may not be. It's highly pro-monarchy, but seeks a 'more open and more modern' kind of aristocracy. Rather than the exclusive and secretive institution currently in existence, Xinyi would like to see gradual changes that make the monarchy 'modern'. The party recently issued an official notice of support for the crown prince in his attempt to marry an ordinary citizen, saying that it was 'absolutely and entirely his choice and he was absolutely and entirely right to follow his heart'. As a party with many Hosians - including Xinyi herself - the traditional nature of Indrala's culture is seen as vital but not perfect. While the party is a massive supporter of the rights of ethnic Indralans and the sovereignty of Indrala, there are some elements of Indrala that "must be opened up so that the most moral choice be made, in our national interest" - according to deputy party leader, Huo Hanying. The party also supports a rehabilitation-orientated justice system.

Is there an opening for this kind of party? Probably, for there are no so expressly religious, conservative and nationalist parties in Indrala. The Lotus Party is socially progressive, New Dawn has supported formidable regulations on businesses and the Freedom Party is also socially liberal. A party firmly on the right like the Nationalist Alliance could peel voters from all three of the above mentioned, as well as gain votes from those who don't vote as they see no party as conservative enough. However, we will have to see the results of the upcoming election to know how, and if, this party can grow in membership and power. We'll also see who its political allies will be in one of the most unique countries in the world - and one of the most powerful. Xinyi's faith and monarchical modernisation strategy could lose votes from traditionalists, but the nearly 2 million Hosians in Indrala could also be a considerable base of support.

EXCLUSIVE: Crown Prince marries commoner with massive outpouring of support
Story by Wang Tingfei
[Image: nIotc9k.jpeg]

OVER THE SUMMER, the Indralan public has been gripped by a real life fairy-tale, occurring between the dashing Crown Prince and a lowly peasant. In a feud held inside the Imperial Palace, which extraordinarily was leaked to the public, the Imperial Household faced off with scholars, priests, servants and bureaucrats, who had expressed their discontent over the Prince's choice to marry a commoner.

The vast majority of Indralans never get to hear the voice of a monarch, however it is likely that most will now never forget that of Prince Yinju, as he declared, "[his] heart is already promised" to the commoner, Miss Kwan Jiang, in a debate which was secretly recorded and leaked to the media. Despite the Prince's sincerity, the Imperial Household staff continued to protest the engagement, and refused to send betrothal gifts to Kwan. At one point, a servant went as far as to make a threat against Kwan's life, which enraged the Prince such that he reportedly said to a staffer:

"I will begin my walk to the servants' wing of the palace. If [the servant in question] is not arrested and removed by the time I get there, I will kill him with my own two hands."

The news of the Palace establishment working not only against the wishes of the Imperial Household, but in an elitist way against the marriage infuriated the Indralan public. Thousands of Indralans of all political and religious stripes gathered outside of the Palace chanting in support of Yinju. Many republicans even joined their monarchist compatriots in their support of the marriage. The Nationalist Alliance, which advocates a reformist position with regard to the monarchy, issued a statement in support of the Crown Prince.

By the end of May, the Emperor had issued an proclamation confirming the marriage, but it was blocked from leaving the Imperial Palace by bureaucrats within the Imperial Household Agency. This was the final move which incensed the Emperor and influenced him to make the decision to fire 1,000 staff members, including a full sweep of the Palace bureaucracy. Awaiting the dismissed servants were thousands of angry Indralans, loaded with an arsenal of expired produce.

With the fundamental officials in the bureaucracy replaced, the Emperor was able to issue a proclamation, which was delivered to the Grand Assembly on 5 June 4374, in which the Emperor said:

"Having already earned Heaven’s ire, [the staff] still thought to be obstreperous and take an egocentric path. How could one regard this disobedience and contrariness as “righteousness”? Thus, the various servants and staff in their fallings simply brought to themselves their fate outside of the Imperial Palace."

The Emperor also discussed his belief in meritocracy and equality as he bestowed his blessing on the marriage, which was set to occur on 6 September 4374. This proclamation, directly dictated by the Emperor and much longer than the most recent marriage proclamation (between Princess Subin and Prince Jebr of Jelbania) was received by the public enthusiastically.

The Emperor also ensured a vast range of bridal gifts including various gold jewelry, aged tea, money and furniture were sent to Kwan Jiang, much larger than those sent to his own in-laws. Thousands of Indralans flanked the route from Kwan's rural Shu Province village to Tian'an wishing to catch a glimpse of the rags-to-riches princess. However the shy girl, surely and understandably out of her element kept the carriage curtain closed for most of the trip. In breach of protocol, and perhaps in recognition of the value of public pressure, the Crown Prince received his bride outside of the Gate to the Imperial Palace, allowing the public to briefly see the two royals together. Video of Kwan's smile as she sees Yinju has gone viral on Indralan social media.

The two were wed in a traditional and private Jienist ceremony within the Imperial Palace. Well-wishers gathered outside the Palace walls were informed of the marriage by 9 booming strikes of a gong, which sparked a massive celebration in the streets of Tian'an. Having married a commoner, the "People's Prince" as he was first called in 4367 has certainly lived up to this title.

INDRALA FINISHES 4380 OLYMPICS WITH HIGHEST GOLD MEDAL COUNT, LAUNCHES KAIZHOU 4400 BID
24 July, 4380

NOWOGARD, Valruzia -- Following a stunning closing ceremony, Indralan olympians are flying home from the Nowogard 4380 Summer Olympics with 25 gold medals draped around their necks, the highest number of any country competing. The Indralan olympic team suffered humiliation in the first event, not placing in the top three in any archery category; the team would rebound as the Olympics continued. The solid performance of the Indralan olympians has renewed interest in the Kaizhou bid to host, with the Indralan National Olympic Committee formally submitting a proposal to the Terran Olympic Committee for the 4400 Summer Games.

FM Sung: "Dynastic imperialism is unjustified in modern times"
Foreign Minister speaks against "dated and farcical" Hutorian royal claims over Shahdom of Aldegar

Sung is surrounded by reporters outside the Grand Assembly building

TIAN'AN, Han: Amid a diplomatic feud between Aldegar and Hutori, Foreign Minister Sung Hyo-rin weighed in on the issue, declaring that "dynastic imperialism is unjustified in modern times."

The conflict emerged over the tangental claims of Alexander I, the Hutorian monarch, to the crown of Aldegar. In response, the Aldegarian claimant, Shah Kurosh Kasad, sent a soiled Hutorian flag to Alexander.

"The sun has set on the era of far-reaching empires," said Sung to reporters, "the international community must respect the self-determination of the Aldegarian people to appoint the royal claimant of their choice. The Hutorian claim is dubious at best; an example of historical revisionism used to fit the narrative of an idealistic past."

When asked whether the conflict would affect Indrala's relationship with Hutori, Sung was far less cynical.

"We don't intend to allow this spat to detract from our commitment to expanding our relationships abroad," said Sung, "it's a minor issue in the context of our bilateral relationship."

Record-breaking $330m raised for Haejo Imperial College

JUGANG, Jiaozhi: Last June, the Emperor presented the Grand Assembly with an edict proposing the construction of a new Imperial College. The new institution would be named after King Haejo of Dankuk and have an academic focus directed toward Northern Dovani history, culture and contemporary affairs. King Haejo is a direct matrilineal ancestor of the Emperor of Indrala through his mother, Princess Ryeo Kyunghee of Dankuk.

Following the announcement, many non-profit organization representing the Kyo minority in Indrala have sprung to action, none more visibly than the Indrala Dankuk Friendship Organization. The IDFA has enlisted the support of numerous YingPop stars, an industry which has deep roots in the Kyo refugee diaspora, gaining the attention of young Indralans of all ethnic backgrounds over social media and on television.

One of Indrala's top YingPop performers, Park Jin-soo (commonly known as "Jinsoo") has been at the forefront of this initiative. A descendant of Kyo refugees, Park spoke about the importance of the project during a fundraising concert held last monday in Kaizhou.

"I want people in Indrala and around the world to see that Dankuk is so much more than this dictatorship," Park said to the audience, "the Haejo Imperial College is a great opportunity for Kyo and Dranian culture to be examined and studied beyond the ideological filter of the Taeyang Regime."

The Imperial Household remains the largest private donor to the institution, pledging to donate $450m toward the initial construction and start-up costs. As with the Kyung-hee Imperial University, it is expected that the Ministry of Education will foot most of the bill.
