For many Xsampans, public parks and squares are a common aspect of life. This is simply the nature of a collectivist society. Combine that with most Xsampan cities being fairly walkable, it's no surprise that most Xsampans are quite engaged in public affairs. It's very rare to see a public square, or a park, empty. For quite some time now however, many Xsampans have been debating architecture for quite some time. Some Xsampans have looked to the West for architectural ideals. Others, have looked to classical socialist architecture, such as brutalism. The debate has even spread to various Local Committee's, and one such Local Committee, the Metz-Leonid Local Committee has looked towards a unique approach, an architecture of beauty.
Taking inspiration from the Beautification of Xsampa Act of 5644, the Metz-Leonid Local Committee has chosen to fully fund the expansion of Revolution Square, a notable public square in front of the People's Palace, and expand it with a fountain park. The Metz-Leonid Local Committee has stated that the argument is that architecture should focus on beauty and joy. As such, Revolution Square has seen an expansion to include several fountains, which has been welcomed by many Xsampans in Metz-Leonid.
While trivial in the grand scheme of things, this is Metz-Leonid, the capital of Xsampa, the heart of the Xsampan Revolution, and it is something every Xsampan in the city will see everyday, and that's what makes it tangible. The Metz-Leonid Local Committee is also making a single argument to the rest of the country. Cities should not just be about productivity and work, but also beauty and joy.

An expansion to the agricultural industry; Tea farms to rival strawberries.

When it comes to agriculture in Xsampa, strawberries remain the giant, as Xsampan demand for strawberries is quite insatiable. However, there's been a growing demand for another sector of agriculture. Tea. Because of the principle of supply and demand, social enterprises and worker co-operative have been starting small tea producing operations. Or rather, farms. However, with demand rising, it seems the government is looking to step up as the agricultural industry is shared between the state and social enterprises, as well as support social enterprises in expanding domestic tea production. As such, the People's Committee of Agricultural Management has announced that for social enterprises, startup grants will be offered to encourage social enterprises to move away from the Agricultural Giants and encourage more domestic farming of goods such as tea.
For state owned farms, a select portion will shift their focus away from growing the Agricultural Giants and move towards tea farming (provided that said farms are in the South) to ensure stable, and consistent production of tea. Alongside the production of farms, processing will be vital as if unprocessed, you can't do much with tea. As such, the state will sponsor the construction of processing plants to ensure that the tea is turned into consumable tea. This not only has the benefit of expanding the Agricultural Industry, and providing more jobs, especially to rural communities, but it comes with the very important benefit of meeting domestic demand and giving Xsampans what they crave. Tea.
As the tea industry starts to kick off, it's expected that the social enterprises will gradually pick up their weight and start competing with the state directly on yea production, but until then, the state will be ready to guide the direction of domestic tea production. The question of exports is being pushed down the road until domestic tea production is deemed adequate enough, as the People's Commissar of Agricultural Management was reportedly to have said, jokingly, "Look, I'd rather not be mobbed for having tea go abroad first then stay home and satisfy demand".

If you ask any foreigner, what are the top three words they think of when hearing the word, "Xsampa", they'll usually think of socialism, the Bargas Chenpo, and ethically made goods. This isn't wrong by any means, but if you were to tell a Xsampan that this was all their culture amounted to, you'd get a frown at best and a colourful amount of upset words at worst. But like any country, culture is not monolithic and while Xsampa isn't a melting pot of cultures, it certainly holds defining aspects worth going over. Especially for a society that is undoubtedly, collectivist.
It is however, a stretch to say that Xsampan culture is purely Xsampan. While it's certainly not a melting pot of cosmopolitanism compared to other cultures, there is one other prominent cultural influence in Xsampa; Canrillaise. As the country used to be the Imperial Dominion of Vasser, under Lourennais control, it's no secret that Canrillaise influence is widespread in Northern Xsampa, and the wider cultural sphere. Xsampans are taught both Xsampan, obviously, and also Canrillaise, and the Karoboro Canton, the northern most Canton in Xsampa is home to Canrillaise-Xsampan communities, most notably the city of Tsélame-Sur-Yol. So, it is no surprise that Canrillaise influence does seep into Xsampan culture, and rather than replacing it or being snubbed out, it's seen a mixture.
This is where three predominant cultural trends in Xsampa come into play. Cat cafes, tea and Opera's. Starting off with Cat Cafes and the wider Cafe Culture of Xsampa, it's no secret that Xsampans simply love cats. And for a collectivist society, where public engagement is expected, cafes quickly have seen growth over the past century as a space for socialization, community and seeing cats. But why cats? Because Xsampans simply love cats, and combining the aspect of cafes and cats is an idea that Xsampans have cherished for a very long time. And this leads us to point two, tea. Tea is a relatively new trend, one that has been rising rapidly in Xsampa, enough for the government to feel the need to invest into domestic tea production. But why? Why are Xsampans turning away from coffee in favour of tea? We can again, point towards Canrillaise influence, and also, a wider societal shift.
While material conditions have been adequate for Xsampa for a considerable while, at least in terms of ensuring poverty is low, recent efforts, both from the government and from public campaigns have seen a focus on putting more money into the pockets of Xsampans, and what do people do when they have more money then they need? They stop surviving, and start living. They look to leisure. This is where tea comes in. Being a foreign product first, it was more expensive on account of the rigorous requirements for goods to enter Xsampa, which meant it wasn't available to many Xsampans. But with Xsampans having more purchasing power, they've drifted towards tea, something which was largely only available to upper class Xsampans, and have rejected coffee in favour of slowing down on life, enjoying the moment and socializing.
And this, also leads us to point 3, Operas. Which follows the same thought process. In the 5690s, Operas began to rise rapidly in Xsampa, gaining major popularity, due to their communal nature, emotional storytelling (or at least their excessive usage of emotion), and the fact that they can carry history, whether fiction or not. With Xsampans having the money, they look to leisure beyond public parks and traditional forms of entertainment, and this leads them to Opera's. Throw in the Canrillaise influence of art belonging in public life, the value of serious emotion being within art, and it's no surprise that Xsampans flock to Opera's.
But, this isnt to say that this entirely defined Xsampan culture. No, not at all. For the biggest influencer, of course, is socialism. Comrades is a common greeting, flaunting wealth is frowned upon heavily, the needs of the collective over the individual (disputably, this may be attributed to collectivism instead of socialism), and the ideals of the Revolution. Uninterrupted socialism for 300 years will no doubt influence culture, just as it has influenced Xsampan culture.
But, if Xsampan culture has to be defined in a short term, it would best he described as this. A society where emotion is valued as art, where slowing down is encouraged, and where the needs of all are prioritized. Whether it be Xsampans craving tea or starting online turf wars over strawberries being superior, whether it be Opera's uniting Xsampans or cafes bringing Xsampans together, Xsampan culture remains most certainly unique, just as any culture is. And this isn't even accounting for traditional Xsampan culture, which is an entirely different aspect, equally worthy of its own article.

The state of global equality is a question that never ends, and while some states excell at bringing equality, others falter. Recently however, there have been statements from pressure groups and think tanks in the West regarding a rather unique anomaly in Keris; the Nadiyan Confederation (colloquially known as Trigunia). Make no mistake, being an anomaly is not a bad thing. In a world defined by capitalism, a socialist is an anomaly. Just as Nadiya is an anomaly. With its unique form of capitalism, it's hyper federal nature (consisting of 6 de facto independent nations), and hyper progressive stance, Nadiya is an anomaly in the global order. However, regarding equality, that, is where the conversation on Nadiya gets interesting.
Lately, in recent memory, pressure groups and think tanks from the West have taken a look into the equality of Nadiya, particularly Mens Rights Groups, over what they claim, is not a state preaching equality and feminism, but a state enacting misandrist policies. It's no secret that Nadiya is often referred to as a Matriarchy, and women do hold a great deal of power and influence in Nadiya, but can the same be said about men? Is Nadiya, truly, an equal state, a hidden gem, or it is a firm misandrist state, where an oppressor is swapped out?
That is the question we will tackle today. But, where does one start with such a collosal task? Befitting socialism, we shall look first, and foremost, at economic rights. And we have our first burden of proof, the pay gap. It cannot be denied that there is a noticable pay gap between the sexes in Nadiya, a pay gap roughly of 30%. This can be chalked up to the nature of capitalism requiring someone to oppress, but it can equally be interpreted as an issue with a state that claims to have a "socialized" economy. This can also be interpreted as an issue with the hyper federalist nature of Nadiya, as it can be hard to enforce progress in a diverse confederation. Beyond that, if we take a look at political rights, we can see equal suffrage, but we can also notice women do firmly dominate the political landscape in Nadiya. In all major governing institutions, that being the Chamber of Nations, Chamber of Justices, and the Supreme Cooperative Court, all sources have pointed towards women holding a majority, whether slightly or absolutely.
Can it be argued that Nadiya is the inverse, of what we see with western feminism? That the hierarchy of oppression is not dismantled, but merely swapped out? Perhaps. It can be argued, perhaps. But, is this enough to call Nadiya a misandrist state? We believe, no. It is not. For despite the issues, Nadiya has made progress. The Constitution of Nadiya, long as it may be, was amended to include an addition of explicit men rights, and it has required all political parties within Nadiya, when fielding candidates, to achieve equality, and mandate 50% be men. Affirmative action, essentially. This, can be chalked up to the influence of a formerly major pressure group, the Nadiyan Manist Union, which did push and pressure the government for mens rights. While the NMU is largely irrelevant, it's movement did push the conversation enough for Nadiya to make efforts. Despite this, the major confederal party's within Nadiya did co-opt the more radical elements of the NMU and water down the reforms significantly. It's no secret that the median voter in Nadiya do value stability far more than radical progress. That, is a trend that has been observed keenly.
But then, who has been pushing for equality? The biggest advocate, has been the Pastel Coalition for Progress, however, that progress has, despite the name, been small in the grand scheme. But the fact that a major party, a confederal party no less, is pushing for equality does show that despite everything, Nadiya is, at worst, not marginalizing men and at best, making slow progress.
So, what is the answer? Is Nadiya a gem of equality? An insult to the feminist movement? A misandrist state? It's undeniably that Nadiya is firmly defined as a Matriarchy, instead of a Patriarchy, and it cannot be denied that Nadiya does have issues regarding liberation of the sexes. Such issues primarily related to economic emancipation (as all our sources have largely focused on the pay gap), and a status quo along the lines of "out of sight, out of mind". However. Nadiya has also made efforts at making progress. A misandrist state, no matter how reactionary or progressive, would never make progress, or would settle for performative progress. Yes, the progress made by Nadiya is small, but gains are gains.
Whether this is an issue of Nadiyan society, or the simple nature of feminism under capitalism, is hard to say, due to Nadiya being a global anomaly. Would these issues arise under a centralized socialist state? It's hard to say. But what can be confidently say, is this. Nadiya cannot be considered a misandrist state, but neither can it be considered the pinnacle of equality or a hidden gem.

The last time and administration attempted immigration reform, the effort quickly became a failure and the bill failed majorly. It's no secret that Xsampans have been skeptical of immigration reform for a very long time now. Partly in nature of ideological concerns and protecting socialism, and partly because of fears of domestic stability being undone. Even socialist internationalism has been unable to really break through this mindset for Xsampans. However, with DEAB coming into fruition, and a tangible Pan-Dovani Institution being established, Xsampans have been growing supportive of immigration reform, with one public movement, the Xsampans for Openness having spent the summer rallying and pushing for Assemblymembers to enact immigration reform.
This week, Xsampans for Openness achieved their goal, as PAX passed the Xsampan Border and Immigration Reform Act (XBIRA). So what does XBIRA do? Well, let's go over what has stayed the same. As per the constitution, citizenship will remain tied to three avenues. Birthright, descent, and naturalization. The first two are not changed at all (as much as they can be changed as the constitution is explicit). But it'd naturalization that is the focus. Previously, it would require a foreigner to reside in Xsampa for five years. This will be changed to four years, and a few requirements will be attached. The resident in question must show a comprehensive understanding of Xsampan or Canrillaise (enough to adequately live on their own), knowledge of Xsampan institutions, and if from a non allied state, explicit renunciation of capitalist political affiliations (this will not be applied to those who come from allied states). The question of Dual Citizenship has been raised several times, but has been shot down, and as such, dual citizenship will remain not possible in Xsampa.
But what about for foreigners who simply want to reside in Xsampa? Residency permits have also been included, and will see a 5 year permit that is renewable. Residents will, after staying in Xsampa for 5 years, gain the right to vote in Local Committee elections, and Local Committee's themselves if elected, but will not be eligible to vote in national elections. As for refugees, they shall receive immediate temporary protected residency, and after 2 years, receive permanent residency. However, for local communities that they reside in, mandatory placement will occur for local labour needs, in which refugees will be guaranteed the fruits of socialism (that being, they won't be exploited like capitalists do). And finally, the rather infamous hostility clause, which bans all citizens from a hostile nation, from setting foot on Xsampan soil. After much back and forth in PAX, this was amended to a moderate compromise. Instead of lifting the ban, or allowing citizens from hostile nations to enter, the compromise shall be, any citizen from a hostile nation will only be allowed to enter Xsampan soil, should they have sufficient proof of allegiance to a recognized socialist party, or socialist institution.
While this is a far cry from efforts like the Immigration Socialist Reform Act in the 5670s, which was very radical, this is a considerable step forward that many Xsampans are happy to accept.

Socialist Labour Party splinters; Splinters how to maintain responsibilities until 5710 Elections.

After years of electoral decline and an identity crisis, the Socialist Labour Party set out on holding an Emergency Party Conference to determine it's future, and determine how the party survives, going forward. With voters leaving for the CPX or XIP, or the other minor party's, the biggest issue for the SLP has been, what reason is there to vote for a moderate socialist party, in a society where democratic socialism is the norm? The Party Conference was supposed to resolve that question and reinvigorate the dying party. Evidently, that never came as the Conference devolved into the equivalent of a verbal gunfight. By the end of it, several factions within the SLP renounced their membership, and left, founding their own party's, taking SLP PAX members with them.
The SLP itself, is effectively dead. It still exists, and still holds seats in PAX, but any chance of the SLP joining the XIP, CPX or even LGD as a major party is long gone now, as what remains of the SLP is a commitment to status quo democratic socialism. Despite it all, the SLP remains unchanged, and only weaker, doomed to minor party status. But, what of the breakaways? They all vary in forming some aspect of centrist socialism, but have enough identity to avoid being SLP clones. The earliest to break off, is the Democratic Socialist Left Party (DSLP), defining itself largely with a left wing populist ideology. While it's unlikely to get far as populism rarely gets far in Xsampa, the aspect of populism is that it's unpredictable and it can make ground. It's likely to find a base, but it's likely to remain as a minor party. Next, is the Socialist Party of Xsampa, consisting of Centrist Meztists, have looked to inhabit the centre of Xsampa's political environment. Technocratic by heart, the Centrists excite little, and that's the point. Finally, and perhaps the most controversially, the Independent Social Democratic Party, which has gained controversy over its name. Despite that, the ISDP does adhere to a form of classical socialism, rejecting capitalism firmly (as is required to survive in the Political Environment), largely focusing on balancing state control in market socialism with social enterprises.
With new parties being forced into PAX, all parties have claimed that they will adhere to coalition responsibilities (as the SLP was included in the current governing coalition) until next elections. This has been welcomed by many in PAX as this prevents a minority government from having to occur or a coalition reshuffle. Whatever the case, the Socialist Labour Party, the first party to win multi party elections when pluralism was enacted in 5625, has met a fatal blow, and will likely not recover.

The Dovani Economic Assistance Bloc has been gaining attraction lately, and while it only still consists of Bianjie and Xsampa, that hasn't stopped it from having appeal. This year, Medina, showed interest in becoming a member of DEAB, citing potential economic benefits. Normally, this would be fully welcomed, and it partially is, as an expansion of DEAB is a win for Dovani. However, the Dovani Economic Council has raised concerns as Medina is currently experiencing an insurgency issue, something which can disrupt economic development in the country. This week, a spokesperson from the DEC released a statement regarding Medina.
Quote:It is recognized that every state within Dovani that meets the requirements to join DEAB, has the absolute right to join. However, given the current state of affairs of Medina, the question of membership cannot be sustained until a permanent resolution in Medina is achieved. We urge for all sides to settle down, and engage in talks to ensure a stable, amicable environment, and then Medinan membership into DEAB can begin.
While the exact situation in Medina is hard to gauge, the Xsampan public has grown increasing interested, as Medina is on the southern most border, and can easily be a cause for concern. The People's Committee of Foreign Affairs has confirmed that the situation is being observed however. But, for DEAB, the DEC is also observing closely, and is very interested in promoting the expansion of DEAB. But, that expansion cannot come if stability is absent.

A look into education in Xsampa; How is education treated by Xsampans?

Education is vital to the success of any modern state. A country lives or dies, based on it's education system. For a workers republic, education is no more important than oxygen. The state may prioritize education heavily, but what good is that if the people don't? In some countries, education is treated as a second thought. Something to get children through and then it's done. Others, treat it as something to never end. And in Xsampa? It's certainly unique, just as is every other society.
It's no secret that Xsampans do adore education. It's cherished, and viewed as an ideal. In Xsampa, one of the most respected jobs someone can take is being an educator. Why? Because it embodies the Proletarian Ideal. Giving your all for the betterment of the collective. So, it's no surprise that many Xsampans view educators as a job worthy of immense respect. And what of students? What are the expectations there? For Xsampa, the expectation is to learn, yes, but also live life. A student who only memorizes tests, is not a student, but a machine. Counter to the Proletarian Ideal. How can you benefit the collective, if all you know how to do is solve tests? This doesn't mean that students are expected to slack off, certainly no, but they are encouraged to live a little. And what about higher education? It's a bit more complicated.
For Xsampa, there's always been a sort of societal pressure for young Xsampans to pursue higher education. So much so, that the state eventually looked to enact tuition free higher education for citizens (residents and foreigners in Xsampa are an entirely different question for another time), to encourage more Xsampans to get a higher education. But why? Why is there societal pressure? This, is where the collective nature of Xsampan culture kicks in, as those with a higher education can more adequately contribute to the greater benefit of everyone in their communities. So, it only makes sense that there would be pressure for Xsampans to achieve a higher education to help their communities. While those without higher education are still socially welcomed, it isn't rare for those without a higher education to be looked down upon. And given this is a cultural thing, there's only so much the state can do beyond encourage Xsampans to not pressure one another.
But then the million People's Tangka question. How do Xsampans view education itself? They view it, as something that never ends, something that's lifelong, and something valuable, both to socialism and the collective that is Xsampa. While to individualistic societies, this is horrid and it makes Xsampa seem like a stereotypical socialist state where everyone is the same, to Xsampans, education serves the collective, and Xsampan culture is certainly collectivist. But, at the end of the day, whether because of socialist influences making Xsampans prioritize education as a public right, or collectivist influences making Xsampans prioritize education for the betterment of communities, Xsampans do deeply cherish education deeply.

Golden Yak Ring debate drags Supreme Revolutionary Court as they rule "all foreign gifts belong to the people; Premier and Custodian reportedly "disappointed".

When our allies in Egelion gifted the Democratic Republic of Xsampa the Golden Yak Ring as a celebration of the Eternal Friendship between Xsampa and Egelion. While this has been praised by the public, this has caused what amounts to a slap fight in the legal world as there's no formal mechanism or precedent for foreign gifts. So, PAX, the Premier and the Custodian went to war with one another, and despite the endless committee debates, Xsampans have found it comical, welcoming the mock war. The Premier, Metok, argued that the gift should fall into the hands of the Head of Government, as it is the Premier who runs the country, whilst PAX has argued that the Golden Yak Ring should belong to PAX as PAX enacts the will of the people. However, technically the gift was gifted to the Head of State, which is the Custodian, who has quietly argued that really, the gift should belong to the Custodians.
The debate got to the point where PAX had to make a formal request to the Supreme Revolutionary Court over how foreign gifts are to be interpreted. With great reluctance, the SRC accepted the case, and ruled that formal ownership of the Golden Yak Ring would not belong to neither the Premier, Custodian, or PAX, but to the "People of Xsampa". This has pleased neither camp die to how vague it is, but given it's the SRC, no one can really overturn the ruling. So, what does this practically mean? Legally, all foreign gifts will belong to the people, and so, it falls to PAX to take responsibility of it, and care for it. In the case of the Golden Yak Ring, they'll remain under special care in Metz-Leonid. Due to the nature of this deeply cherished gift, the exact specifics will have to be avoided for sake of security of such a valuable item.
Of course, the Custodian and Premier were reportedly disappointed with the ruling, but anticipated it. And yet the entire time, Xsampans viewed it as comical, and giving some whimsy to what's normally a boring political and legal environment.

Egelian Tourist arrested in Metz-Leonid; Public Security confirms tourist will be ejected out of the country.

Tourism in Xsampa falls into two spots. The first, is what's most common, and that is enviromental tourism. Most visit Xsampa to see our beautiful landscapes. However, with enough persistence, tourists can make their ways to the urban cities of Xsampa, albeit in a regulated way. They aren't allowed in every urban community, and only during specific seasons. All, except, Metz-Leonid, which remains open almost yearly (except for every October), due to the presence of various points of interest, but the most notable is the Memorial to the Victims of Nuclear War. It isn't uncommon for a tourist however, to act inappropriately, or be unpleasant. However, the most it gets to, is usually, Public Security stepping in, and requesting the tourist to be more respectful, and barring that, ejecting them from the country and sending them home. What is absolutely rare however, is for a tourist to conduct themselves so disrespectfully, and violate the sanctity of the Memorial to the Victims of Nuclear War, that Public Security is forced to arrest the tourist.
This week, Public Security confirmed that one "Gonzalo Pérez", was formally arrested by Public Security. A relatively well known influencer in online spaces (Public Security has refrained from naming his online channel), known primarily for content that involves visiting foreign countries and pushing the boundaries, Pérez was reportedly, warned repeatedly by Public Security due to being incredibly loud and disrespectful at the Memorial to the Victims of Nuclear War. This only continued as Pérez, again reportedly, made brash, inappropriate jokes, excessively loud comments. Despite several warnings from Public Security, it eventually resulted in Pérez continuing to disrupt the environment, and even filming for content. By this point, Metz-Leonid Public Security has given several warnings (as they are legally required to when dealing with tourists, as well as a general benefit of the doubt), but with the Memorial to the Victims of Nuclear War, a monument of mourning the dead, being treated as cheap content, Public Security made the decision to arrest Gonzalo Pérez for "disrupting the peace", "desecrating a public memorial", and "Failure to comply with lawful orders repeatedly".
Later in the evening, Public Security did confirmed that Pérez would be sent home to Egelion immediately, and would be blacklisted from entering Xsampa again. The Egelion Embassy in Metz-Leonid was reached for a comment, but as of this moment, has not given a comment regarding the incident. The Metz-Leonid Commissar of Public Security did confirm that, "despite this incident, Pérez will be sent back home, and fall into Egelian responsibilities, and it is trusted that Egelion will adequately handle the individual". Domestically, reactions have largely been that of disappointment. Not at Egelion, but at Pérez, and the concept of using memorials for online content. Whatever the case, Pérez is on his way back home, taking the first flight out of the country.
