RE: A Battle Unseen - XanderOne - 23-07-2025 Space eyes on a disaster ![]() Antinori Palace, Romula, Istalia. First hour of January 14th. The phone rang insistently, piercing the dense silence of a still night. Valeriano Giunio opened his eyes abruptly, disturbed by that sound so unrelated to the time. He was very sweaty, the bedroom felt like a hoover. He turned onto his side, gently removed his wife's arm that was wrapped around him in sleep, and reached for the nightstand. The first thing he did, mechanically, was look at the digital clock radio: 12:57 AM. He reached for the nightstand. The landline receiver was already on its fifth ring when he grabbed it. «Yes?» he said, his voice still rough from sleep. At the same time, the screen of his cell phone, placed next to the phone, lit up in rapid succession with a steady stream of notifications, but not ordinary messages; the headers clearly indicated the source: the National Security Servers. On the other end, in a clear and controlled tone, Luigi Sardi, National Secretary for Security and Intelligence, replied. «Minister Secretary, it's Luigi. I apologize for the late hour, but we have an evolving situation.» «What's going on? I'm receiving... dozens of notifications» said Giunio, slowly sitting up in bed and turning on the air conditioning, inside himself complaining about his wife who even in those temperatures "felt cold with the air conditioning". «They are messages from the Servers of the National Security.» «One of our Intelligence satellites has detected a serious anomaly, Minister. An atmospheric radioactive emission coming from the Vrosnok region of Nadiya. Our orbital surveillance satellites, shortly after 7:00 PM, recorded an anomalous peak in gamma and neutron radiation in the upper atmosphere. The source has been triangulated: it's the area of the Syarokhna Nuclear Power Plant.» Giunio was silent for a moment, then sat up in bed. «A radioactive leak? Or... worse?» «That's what the DGCC initially thought: the automatic protocols classified the event as potentially compatible with a fission explosion. But further checks ruled out the possibility of a bomb. Two other satellites, one from the Joint Space Operations Command, were reoriented to the area. The medium and long infrared sensors of one of them detected anomalous thermal emissions: significant, but not consistent with a detonation. Probable industrial fire or damage to the reactor.» «And the second satellite?» «SIGINT satellite: it had difficulty visually detecting it due to a severe snowstorm affecting the entire area. However, it confirmed a widespread blackout and radio outages in the city of Syarokhna. Space Command has ordered an expansion of the detection field to monitor the movements of troops, vehicles, and emergency units in the region and surrounding areas. The data will arrive in less than twenty minutes.» Junio stood up slowly. His mind had already shifted into management mode. Then, rubbing a hand over his face as if to wipe the sleep from his eyes, he pronounced gravely: «We have confirmation of a nuclear accident, then.» «The analysts are talking about a high probability. The energy pattern is not compatible with an intentional nuclear explosion. However" Sardi's voice became clearer «we don't have confirmation yet, but as I said, the hypothesis is highly plausible, sir: everything points to that plant.» The Minister, approaching the window, he looked beyond it. The streets of Romula were still full of people searching some refreshment from the hot air that since days weighed on the city, and he remained silent for a few moments. Then he spoke in a low but lucid voice. «Luigi... how many scenarios do we have? I mean: if it's a limited leak... or a serious failure... what are the estimates? How many people can we expect to be affected, based on weather conditions, proximity to population centers, and the type of reactor?» Sardi answered without hesitation: «Preliminary analyses are cross-referencing the data with available information on Syarokhna. The plant has four reactors, two of which are in regular operation. We're talking about second-generation technology, with post-war upgrades, but nothing comparable to our standards. The city of the same name has about 80,000 inhabitants, and the surrounding suburbs have another 40,000.» «And if containment had failed completely?» «In that case, we could have thousands of direct irradiated victims within the first twelve hours, hundreds of immediate deaths near the plant, and a cloud that, if the currents move south, could cover a significant area of Keris.» Junio sighed and closed his eyes for a moment. The memory of the Beiteynese nuclear attack on Xsampa, even though more than 50 years had passed, was still vivid, etched in the living flesh of Italian and world memory. The mere word "radiation" was enough to make an entire generation of leaders choke up. «What if it's just a minor leak?» «With the radiation levels detected at altitude... unlikely. But if it's contained, we're still talking about mandatory evacuations, local compromise, and political fallout. The Vrosnok authorities haven't released any statements yet. Not even Nadiya.» Giunio nodded, even though no one was watching, and was about to say something when Sardi anticipated him: «Sir, beyond the incident, it should be noted that hours have likely passed since the accident, yet all is quiet in Vrosnok and the only thing on social media is the blizzard. It's now the dead of night and still nothing: in scenarios like this, the authorities don't wait hours before releasing statements or deploying security services. Minister... that's suspicious. Especially considering the data collected by our systems.» «Do you suspect they're trying to contain the panic or, worse, contain the truth?» «Exactly. The General Staff is already asking us to authorize the DGCC to intercept and analyze communications in the region, particularly between Zarvosopol and Volosgrad. I support the proposal. But it will be a delicate operation. If Vrosnok is downplaying the situation for… political reasons (?)… well… we must proceed with extreme caution.» «Then, I want the DGCC to immediately begin an in-depth analysis of digital traffic and communications in the region. We will need signals to anticipate any developments. When I get to the office, I want all possible projections: weather, demographics, wind patterns.» «Roger, sir. I will prepare an operational dossier and the necessary authorization paperwork for you.» «In the meantime, I will call Silvanin." He referred to the Foreign Minister. «I want you to contact the central authorities in Nadiya; we offer immediate assistance. But first… I will make a call to Chief Executive Konstantinovna. Before the news gets to us.» «Very good, Minister. Updates coming in every thirty minutes.» He hung up slowly, while his cell phone continued to flash. Junius got up and headed for the bathroom. He washed his face with cold water. A sleepless night lay ahead. Then he looked at himself in the mirror, reflecting. If the Zablocki administration, in power in Zarvosopol, were really trying to hide something to avoid paying some political price, then they were irresponsible. And the consequences, if the radioactive release had continued, could have been catastrophic, and not just for them. But one thing was certain: if something had gone wrong in Syarokhna, the world would find out, and very soon. RE: A Battle Unseen - Doc - 25-07-2025 Cliff House, Kaliburg, 7:45pm local Quote:The Ministers slowly shuffled into the room. In attendance were Her Imperial Majesty, Empress Mary I Ananto, Her Highness the Princess Margaret Ananto-DeLaurentis, Chancellor of the Empire, Lady Jennifer Alvarez-Miller, Minister of Internal Affairs Katherine Sorenson, Minister of Justice the Honorable Gale Wilson and Minister of Defense Commander George Martinez. At the foot of the table sat Lady Marian Southern, Her Imperial Majesty's Personal Secretary, who was typing notes into a transcription machine. RE: A Battle Unseen - Louis - 29-07-2025 El Capitolio, Distrito Real, Altea | 9:14 PM RA: "My dear councilors, as you may know, the Southern Armada has made it to the reaches of Meriath. With the help of Duke Montalivet, Castillo Garbaldi has managed to reach secure lines of communication with the Island of Meriath. According to the II, our satellite imagery and reconnaissance within the ATENEA satellites has proven that there are major military operation prepared to take place in Rildanor. I fear that the Vasseur government is preparing some king of action against the mutiny on the island. Mondragon: I spoke to officials on Meriath a week ago. From what it seems, mutiny was just one step in rebelling against the Rildanorian government. I was told that the island was preparing for all possible outcomes, but even then, they did not know what that would be. Montalivet: As I told His Majesty, I have set the ATENEA Missile System online. Our fighter squadrons are also now prepared for any possible reaction we may get from Labonne--they are...not happy with us, to say the least. In any case, the Southern Armada is well prepared to take on any possible incursions. Our focus is to protect trade but we understand that some "misfiring" may altercate the situation. Ibarra: As far the Royal Treasury is concerned, this deployment to Rildanor will cost the Directory a couple hundred million. It's digging into our reserves and we should hope that whatever is going on here doesn't last long. We'll need a more permanent military installation in the region to alleviate our financial necessities. RA: I see. I believe we may have an opportunity, my dear councilors. We are faced with a significant terror not only for our cousins in Canrille, but for the sake of international trade as well. If we can secure access into the region via Rildanor, we may have a position that would safeguard this entire region. Councilor Montalivet, please see to it that all weapons systems within the ATENEA system are active--both here and within the southern armada. Montalivet: Your intentions, Majestad? RA: We shall have our eyes everywhere... and have the ability to use our new weaponry. Please have the Royal Marines and the Royal Army prepared for potential deployment. At Cartablanca, within a week. Get me Meriath officials on the phone, Lucero. Mondragon: Of course, Majestad. RA. you are all dismissed. RE: A Battle Unseen - Ligbruderkrieg - 03-08-2025 An Introduction to Darlington Politics - Acte I, Scene I 10 Crown Street, Fort William, Luthori; Tuesday 27th April 5660 - 9:27 AM. ![]() “I do hope that you and your partner are getting used to this house, ma’am, as you will likely be staying there, hopefully, for the next five years”, the infamous voice that everybody knew around these sacred walls only left that out-of-character statement out of sympathy, I mean, look at her, she was merely Leader of the Opposition for a few years, she doesn’t know, or at least, knew little of Darlington politics in government, he had seen her speeches during the campaign trail, that was someone who has hope in the system, but didn’t know how to wield her powers. This was something that she needed to learn as soon as possible, he thought to himself. “We are getting accustomed, thank you for your concern, it’s indeed quite different from our home.”, Miles spoke with a soft smile on her face, having heard stories about the man standing in front of her, she certainly didn’t think that he would be caring, even for a second. She could still remember the gasps and shocked faces of everyone within the Labour Party when she announced that she would be appointing him, him of all people available in this goddamn nation, as her Chief of Staff. A relatively minor role in the grand scheme of government business, with not any parliamentary oversight on the appointment process, but if wielded effectively by the appointee, could become one of the most effective roles in government, serving as a direct link between the Prime Minister and the rest of the Cabinet. While she knew the danger, she also knew that she wasn’t trapped with him, he was trapped with her, and any attempts at becoming too much of an influence in her policy will be met with swift and brutal reprisal. At last, that wasn’t her main worry as she knew that he was deeply aware of his current condition and would remain, although hesitantly, loyal to her. “I’m merely here to rewind our options as the term goes forward, Prime Minister. As you know, we’ve succeeded in forging a strong majority in the lower house, and now, it’s time to think about policy-making for the next two years. Of course, the press reported that you had put within your priority, the passage of institutional reforms. I must say that I wouldn’t push it if I was at your place, ma’am.” “And why wouldn’t you?”, she sounded intrigued and perplexed, after all, passing institutional laws while the political momentum was high sounded like a good deal. Passing laws reforming both the High Courts system and the Senate could be a good way to use her political capital. “We currently do not have a majority in the Senate. The Conservatives currently hold a good number of seats to basically kill our agenda on the committee stage, while they might be more inclined at working with us on the matter of reforming the high courts, I’m sure that Conservative Lords will not appreciate our attempts at even reforming the Second Chamber by an inch, and well, even Liberal and some of our Lords might not appreciate it too much to actively support it. While we can begin to push both texts in the Chamber of Representatives, I don’t give too much of a chance of them surviving in the Senate, as of now.”, his voice produced the same monotone, sharp tone that was characteristic of his persona, he was known as a no-nonsense person, who wouldn’t giving false hope to people - except if he himself believed in something greater than him. “So. You are basically telling me that I need to step up on other matters while leaving the institutional issue on the wind.” “No. I’m just saying that we have more chances at achieving success with our economic platform until 5662, when the first provincial elections will come up and 5663 when the Senate’s 300 provincial seats will be elected by the legislatures. A good result in these elections basically hands us the Senate until 5668, where we will have more time and political capital to push through our institutional agenda through both Houses of Parliament, granted that, of course, we do not lose total control over the Chamber at this point.” “Fair enough, you do have a point.”, as much as she hated the disgusting satisfied smirk that formed over his face, knowing that he just won this argument against his boss, she also knew that what he said wasn’t that all fucked up. It actually made sense, winning the Senate in 5663 could actually mean more for her agenda than only relying on the Chamber of Representatives for now. But, her economic agenda was also likely to be voted down by a Conservative-held Senate, but in this case, the Chamber of Representatives held primacy over the Senate, and there was disagreement between the two Houses of Parliament, the lower house’s vote would mean that the Bill either passes or fails. She would need to talk to both Rosenbach and Howle to draft up the government’s economic investment program, and will need to look after the Bank of Luthori’s notoriously infamous General-Director in the next few days to basically kiss his ass into not doing something harmful for the administration in the short term - even though she had no confidence that this would actually work, knowing her economic program. These thoughts were everywhere, she was elected by the people, her people, to change things to make the system work for the people, and not some privileged assholes living in fancy residences…she couldn’t risk failure…she can’t fail at this. She just can’t. One voice snapped her out of her thoughts, the voice of her Chief of Staff woke her up. “Ma’am? Ma’am? How shall we proceed?” “Uh…yes, call up Rosenbach, we need to talk about pushing a Bill to increase the minimum wage to £13.25 per hour. That way we’ll pass a bill that will strengthen our appeal towards the base, while relatively keeping the coalition united over things that we all support. We should also begin working towards the usual stuff, like increasing taxation for the wealthy and big corporations alike.” “Sure thing.” “And also.”, she said as he was walking away. “Send an email to Bercow, tell him that we need to move slowly about the whole institutional reform thing. That’s better for us. Spending political capital on things that make us win elections as of now. And plan a meeting with Labour-aligned local political parties’ chiefs to work out a strategy for 5662.” “Alright, will do. Anything else?” “No. I’ll call you up at 11.”, as the brown-haired man left the room, he merely left up an unreadable smirk as he went. He smirked to himself in his cigarettes dim glow at his father being quote, "The picture of health". Ludvík knew full well of his fathers chain smoking, drinking habits, and appetites. Ludvík thankfully had quit smoking after the war, and swore off drinking after a drunken stupor of a bar fight in Lirnak. He was the only one who could bring Kundrati to greatness, all the lackeys in the Politburo who whooped and hollered in empty hearts for the presidents speeches, only to turn around and enjoy a night at home with a prostitute while their wife was away with some illicit drugs. The moral decay of the nation was rotting its foundations from within. His father was a hero in the eyes of many; He had done much to recover the economy with the so called "free market", repaired much of the post war infrastructure and housing, gave power and water to millions. But a nation no matter how wealthy fiscally can never truly succeed if it is morally bankrupt. Ludvík had championed the new kuno, backed by the bullion and bond notes, which were finally beginning to show returns after the abrupt and difficult transition. Kundratis purchasing power domestically was now far more powerful, damned be the foreign economies of the corrupt demagogues and "democracy makers". The people needed a true free economy, and a currency backed by real tangible assets, not wantonly determined rates set by speculators and pencil pushers a continent away. Ludvík had great ambitions for Kundrati, to finally be a power feared again, to be a power that instead of receiving aid from the world sends it out once more, to plant its grip firmly in Artania and defy Luthorian dominance. RE: A Battle Unseen - Dredd - 22-08-2025 Quote:Ludvík sat in the quiet, empty church as snow whistled outside the dusty windows. A small memorial sat at the foot of the cross in the front of the room, a portrait of saint Sladek hanging over its golden tip. He had been coming to this place for decades, the same church he grew up in, regardless if abandoned, was his sanctuary and place of reflection. It too was the only place he could see the signs. It had come to him in dreams and visions, but it wasn't until he was 14 that he began understanding their significance. At first it frightened him, he had believed it to be demons or devils spiritually attacking him, but then he saw the light and heard the voices, and they spoke of a holy purpose. All the raptured crowds and speeches he delivered, all the realizations of his holy preordained destiny forged in the stars, all of it had been given through him to the people by god himself, and gods signs came to him time and time again, it was his purpose, a vessel for the divine, a reincarnation and destiny. Ludvík tensed his hands as he felt the lord preparing to speak to him, his eyes rolled back and he clenched his jaw, teeth gritting. In the darkness he saw the light emerge and the lines form, angelic voices spoke to him without a voice, images appeared without a frame. He saw a flaming sword in a distant galaxy, he felt scars run down his face to the bone, a radiating heat spreading throughout his body as he sweated profusely despite the cold. Finally he saw, he saw saint Sladek himself. He rested a palm on his shoulder as Ludvíks veins bulged in his neck and his legs curled, he saw a holy Kundrati in the distance flanked by monsters and horned beasts. Ludvík gasped a breath through his beleaguered throat and shook as a radiant golden city beckoning in a far distance, just out of grasp, stood on a hill. Shaking violently Ludvík prayed, and appeared before a mirror in the deep. The mirror floated mere inches from his face, Ludvíks fit only worsened until finally he finally, truly saw clearly, it was not his own face in the mirror. Saint Sladek looked back into his eyes, yet shared his own hazel features.
RE: A Battle Unseen - Elena1012 - 24-08-2025 Dealing with the Past. Somewhere in the Hanzen Shield Mountain Range, Karosawa, Xsampa June 23rd, 5667 ------------------------------ Jamma sat in the helicopter patiently. They were flying towards an undisclosed location, only dubbed Site E-11. He looked out the window, seeing the endless snowy mountains. All this security for a lousy gem, he thought to himself. The supposed Meleh's Gem. Secured during Operation Guilty Masquerade in 5642. Previous administrations didn't care much for it and neither did he. As far as Xsampa was concerned, the Gem never existed. Xsampans only wanted the trial of Maria Kadiyot. Only the government knew the Gem existed. And even they knew it was worthless to Xsampa. This gem was the only reason that the Internal Security Committee was still involved and not on constant vacation. They watched it like a hawk at E-11. He thought to himself, pondering. Why was he coming here again? Because he was going to decide it's fate. It was always called a valuable asset, useful for deterrence but was it really? Before he knew it, the helicopter gently landed at the helipad. The door opened, a chilly breeze hit Jamma and he stepped out. He adjusted his coat and met the Site Director. They quickly walked inside the Site. "So, Comrade. About the gem..." Jamma left the statement open, intending for the Site Director, Kechok Derocles to answer. As they walked down the hallway, she answered back rather quickly. "Yes... The Meleh's Gem. We've had it stashed in E-11 ever since Operation Guilty Masquerade and ever since then, we've never been instructed to do anything else with it. So we've kept it here. We're aware of the security risks that the Gem brings, mostly in being a prized possession from the former state of Beiteynu. But there's been no issues. As if they don't even know we have it." She finished, before opening a door. Jamma walked in, and sat down at a table, before replying back. "It's good to know that Internal Security is still as vigilant as ever. I want to put a permanent solution to this gem problem. It clearly has no value to us and as rumours speculate in Seleya and the West about Yeudi Meddling coming back, this puts a big target on us. Too big of one. I want to stop a problem from emerging again. I don't want history to repeat." Jamma frowned gently at the not so subtle reminder of the Bargas Chenpo. Kechok stood up, standing by a glass window overlooking the mountain range, shooting her thoughts back to Jamma. "Yes... No one wants a repeat of history. No one wants history to rhyme either. Its bad enough with Vascania. So then, Comrade. What's your proposal for the fate of the gem? The People's Assembly is debating on lifting that travel ban with Amudim. And once that happens, they'll ask questions about the gem." Jamma tapped his foot silently. He didn't like that PAX was debating lifting the travel ban. If he could, he would veto any legislation to lift the ban. But the Premier couldn't veto. Only PAX could remove laws. He had been trying to stop debates on lifting the ban but evidently that has been failing. He stayed silent for a moment before responding. "We have... A handful of options. We can simply melt down the gem and deny we ever had it. We could just send it back to Yishelem, refuse to elaborate and leave it at that. We could chuck it into the Sovereign Sea and let the sea solve it. Or, we could sell it to the highest bidder. Amudim has made plenty of enemies. Plenty of enemies who wouldn't mind buying the gem for a hefty price. What do you think, Comrade?" Kechok turned around, facing Jamma and spoke. "I don't think we should melt it down and deny we had it. That would raise too much questions. Personal opinions aside on lifting the travel ban, it could sour any proper reconciliation. Giving it to Amudim is an option, but I don't know. It feels.. wrong. Throwing it into the sea doesn't seem any better. If it's international waters, then Vascania can always hunt for it and then they have Meleh's Gem. That's the last thing anyone wants and the Committee for State Security will eat us both for dinner. Selling it could be ideal. But who would even buy it?" Jamma put his hand on his chin and thought. That was a valid point. Who would even buy a worthless gem? "Perhaps some of the western monarchies? It's no secret that Hutori and Kalistan has an interest in gems, especially Yeudi ones. I doubt our comrades in Egelion would want it. Same for Luthori." He replied back, somewhat confident and somewhat curious. Kechok pondered for a moment. "Hutori and Kalistan would pay a mighty sum just to have it. Puts us in a position of power. Only issue is the same as melting it down. It can harm reconcilation efforts before they even happen. But, ultimately, it's your call Comrade. We can get the gem ready in 24 hours. For whatever reason." Another valid point. Jamma didn't like this. He just wanted this lousy gem out of Xsampa. But every solution had some problem. Vascania, PR or reconcilation. His foot tapped faster. He didn't like this one bit. He smiled gently and responded, as an idea struck. "Well, it's not like we ever had a reputation for liking Yeudis. I don't think the world will care much for us selling a gem we took when they were the ones who nuked us. I'll get the PCFA ready. We'll see to it that the gem is sold to the highest bidder. At the very least, we can make this worthless gem benefit the Xsampan Proletariat and get some economic benefits. I'll see to it that the government is ready to announce that it'll be sold by the end of the year. Then we'll go from there." He stood up as Kechok nodded. He shook her hand as she went to an intercom by the door to put in the request to get the gem ready. Jamma walked out of the room and began to return outside, ready to board the helicopter. This lousy gem wasn't worth all this trouble. Just a little bit longer and it would be out of not just his hands, but Xsampa for good. He boarded the helicopter and sat down. As the engine started roaring to life, the door closed and he shivered a bit. This gem had issues. It would only bring issues. But at the very least, it'll be someone else's problem. Not Xsampa's. |
