RE: Kalistani Major History - Doc - 27-01-2025 Quote:Secord Signs on With ARC as Hutori Celebrates Victory at FOMAT RE: Kalistani Major History - Doc - 27-01-2025 ![]() Hutorian Musician Erica Secord arrives in Kalistan Secord paired up with producer Dawn Gordon for her first record on new label Sulari, Suldanor July 29, 4782 ![]() Erica Secord, the winner of this year's FOMAT contest set to record at ARC studios Erica Secord, the Hutorian singing sensation, who prevailed at last May's FOMAT Contest in Deltaria, has arrived in Sulari to begin working with the Artists Recording Cooperative. After signing an agreement to record a record in Kalistan, the young singer, whose winning Song "Run" has already begun receiving airplay on music television and radio, has been paired with veteran producer Dawn Gordon. Gordon left KMI in December, and has signed on to produce for the ARC, siting "an environment that promotes creative freedom" in the new record Company. Details of the record deal between Secord and ARC are confidential, but the deal is rumored to include a one record deal with an option for continued recording. ARC has also acquired a reputation for allowing the artist to control creative direction of their record and fronting studio time and pressing expenses. A standard contract involves recuperation of costs out of sales, and then passing on all profits on to the artist. ARC also has a nascent distribution arm, and does all mastering and pressing in house. The record label assigned Gordon to production duties. ARC spokesperson Birdie James said "We felt that Gordon's talents match both Secord's style, and she has enough experience to allow Secord to get her feet wet in other styles and genres and really flex her creative muscles." ARC also has a stable of studio and session musicians that can help Secord craft songs, and realize her vision. "We are very excited to be recording this record with Secord," said James. "Our producers have created hundreds of independent albums, but this can be the template of the Cooperative model of record making. Definitely a clear alternative to the Big Label model of KMI." Secord is expected to remain in Kalistan for a couple weeks to record some demo tracks. Then she will travel back home and will work remotely with Gordon to build out a record which highlights the singer's talents, as well as develop some experimental material. Once Secord and Gordon agree on the content of the Record, Secord and her band will travel to Kalistan and she will enter the studio, and participate in every step of the recording and mastering process. "This is a big record for ARC, and we hope it helps Secord break out in Kalistan," said James. "We are going to promote the hell out of it." RE: Kalistani Major History - Doc - 27-01-2025 ![]() Kalistan Nominates Madysin Shakespeare to FOMAT contest Aims at making a real run for Victory in Music Contest in Hutori Kaliburg, Ananto February 8, 4785 ![]() Madysin Shakespeare, selected by KRTVN-2 viewers to Compete in 2nd Annual FOMAT The time has come for Kalistan to name its entry for the 2nd Annual FOMAT contest, this time in Hutori. Viewers of KRTVN-2 were polled in a sixteen contestant round robin contest which was won easily by 27 year old Yoshimi pop singer Madysin Shakespeare. Shakespeare will represent the Republic's music industry in FOMAT. "One of the biggest reasons people voted for Shakespeare was because, as one fan on social media put it: "We lost last time by selecting music which was reflective of the music most people listen to in Kalistan. So I'm voting for the one who is more like the kind of music they listen to in Hutori." Most voters wanted someone who would win the contest--Whether or not she was an excellent musician was low on the list of things that are important. Shakespeare beat out several rock acts, two hiphop artists, and three reggae musicians. "I like her because she looks awesome, and is also pretty influential on pop music," said a teenaged fan. Shakespeare's music is relatively niche in Kalistan: Her style is considered a form of upbeat electro-pop influenced by disco, called Hi-NRG. It is designed to be played in dance clubs and can easily be remixed by djs and played in mixes that last for several hours. Hi-NRG grew out of the RF scene in Kalistan, and represents a regression of form from its predecessor, easily commodified and sold for the masses, though as of right now, the audience for Hi-NRG is still relatively limited to a few clubs in Suldanor. Shakespeare, though was an instant sensation. One of the vanguard of her generation, her good looks and extremely professional work ethic gave a lot of young singers an aesthetic to aspire to. As she is deep in the more mature aspects of her career, she has explored many music forms including straight pop, disco, electronica, and even hip-hop inspired dance music. She has worked, over the last 8 years with a number of famous producers, and is a KMI recording artist. Over her career, which is entering its 10th year, Shakespeare has sold more than 7 million records, mostly in the pop and electronica genres. "I wanted to try this Hi-NRG style," Shakespeare said in November. "It is different and nobody else is really doing it nowadays, so I figured I'd give it a shot." The record, which was seen as experimental for the singer, sold modestly well over the past 4 months, and her lead single, "Philanderer" has sold more than 250,000 downloads on streaming services across the Republic. And as a result, it seems like her time has come to bring Hi-NRG to the wider world at FOMAT in Hutori. "I am very honored to represent the Republic at FOMAT," said Shakespeare. "I'm gonna bring it!" Shakespeare's entry, her single "Philanderer" will represent the Kalistani Music scene in less than two years at the second annual music festival. [Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rMqayQ-U74s] Here is the Video for "Philanderer" RE: Kalistani Major History - Doc - 27-01-2025 ![]() News in Brief: Kalistan Nears Zero Growth New opportunities for KalMD overseas; NC growth concerning Kaliburg, Ananto February 12, 4785 ![]() Premier D'Arcy updates Republic after snap elections last fall on new Agenda in coming years Economic News The Kalistani consumer tech firm, KalMD is reportedly in negotiations with Endralon to begin cooperating with Hugamest Tech Group out of Endralon. Early reports of the talks include an opportunity for KalMD to open two new factories in Kobolmocs, one to produce cell phones and one to produce televisions and other sorts of consumer electronics. KalMD spokesperson Dianne Victorio said, "I am not sure if we are quite there yet on the deal, but it seems like they are interested in working with us, and so as I understand, we are now crossing the i's and dotting the t's, and things are looking positive for the deal." This is the first joint venture between KalMD and a foreign nation since the joint investment deal between KalMD and Lourenne's Manon-Maison corporation. Fiscal News: The Finance Minister, Isabella Castillo, issued a report detailing Kalistani economic growth. In her executive summary, which was released to the press, she noted Kalistan's success at slowing economic growth to close to zero. "We are fulfilling the promises of the Current Government in bringing Kalistani growth under 1%," said Castillo. "Much to the chagrin of our liberals and many of the capitalists in this country, our economy is just barely outpacing population growth, and therefore, in real terms, we are yielding a positive 0.12 percent economic growth." The Finance Ministry in the past few years has been working diligently on re-establishing zero growth policies traditionally associated with Socialist Governments. When asked why Kalistan supports zero growth policies, the Minister felt the need to explain the policy. "Our ideological goal is to freeze prices, cap profits and eliminate the specilation, boom-bust cycle which is inherent in capitalism and which is plaguing other nations on Terra at the moment. Practically speaking, we do not have the legislative tools to do so: we are, after all, not a command economy. But at growth rates which keeps pace with population growth exactly, we can eliminate inflation in the market place and prevent wild swings in the business cycle, as well as look to important sectors like the environment, and ensure that we are producing for need, rather than for profit. Without a profit incentive, the productive capabilities wasted in redundancy and excessive overproduction are shut down and released for other, more productive pursuits, including innovation, research and development on existing products, and leisure." Kalistani socialists have long advocated for zero-growth policies and have assiduously protected national surpluses to protect against external commodity shocks. On the news that the Economy was nearing zero-growth, the Kalsie was ambivalent, ending the day up .01 percent on the index. Foreign Affairs: News of a returning Northern Council has the foreign policy establishment troubled. Foreign Minister Uxue Etxeberri stated "The Northern Council is a hegemonic organization designed to spread across the globe. They have menaced Kalistan in the past, and though it is unclear what their aims are this time, we must be on guard for their ambitions in our corner of the globe." It would appear that Lourenne may be moving closer to the newly reformed NC, though recent civil strife in the major Cities of the Kingdom could possibly put a damper on the Kingdom's enthusiasm for the alliance. "We are, of course, concerned that our new friend in Lourenne, are being lured by the same old nonsense," said the Foreign Minister. "At the moment, the NC is still quite small, but should they begin their expansion into the Northern Anantonese Ocean, we would implore Lourenne to pick regional unity over global hegemony and help us to resist this foreign encroachment." The Foreign Minister also promised to revisit the Non-Aligned Movement Treaty as an option to stand against the NC, and looks to strengthening relations with Yingdala, both through the recently passed Go Association Treaty, as well as a new Fraternal Association with the Celestial Empire. Go News: ![]() Vivian Jones, 2 Dan P (seated left) advances to top of Kalistani Go Rankings with Ananto win in January The newest Kalistani National Champion, Vivian Jones, has advanced to 2 Dan P after winning the Ananto Sponsored Tournament in Go. She is now the top player in Kalistan and hopes to remain at the top of the rankings into the first Annual Honinbo Competition in 3 years. "Its a real honor to become the first female 2Dan in Kalistan," said Jones, "and to have won this tournament. The competition was excellent, and I hope to defend the title next year." Jones is only the third 2Dan P in Kalistan's fledgling Go scene, which has seen clubs beginning in Kaliburg, Sulari, Gendaris, Springfield, Vrassa City, and High Bong Neveras. "Hopefully, we can encourage more young people to pick up the game in the coming year, and I hope that Kalistan, when it finally ratifies the Treaty, puts together its National Tournament so We can compete there." Jones won her tournament 2-0, 2-0, and 2-1 and faced off against some very challenging competitors in Kaliburg. The ratification of the treaty has been repeatedly delayed by elections, but is expected to pass at long last early this year. RE: Kalistani Major History - Doc - 27-01-2025 ![]() Hutori Pop Singer Secord tops Kalistani Pop Charts "Love Isn't Crazy" reaches number one in Weekly Poll Kaliburg, Ananto March 2, 4785 ![]() ARC's first hit artist, Hutori Pop Star Erica Secord, tops Kalistani Pop Charts Soon after completing her ARC debut record, the Eponymous "Secord", Hutori Pop sensation Erica Secord launched a tour of the Republic to promote the record. And promote she did. In her first few months on tour, Secord sold more than 500,000 copies of her ARC debut, and more than a million paid downloads on streaming services, in addition to ad revenue and licensing. 4784 has been a great year for Erica Secord in Kalistan. And now, to top off the year, her latest single "Love Isn't Crazy" has reached the top of the KRTVN Pop polls for the first time. She beat out many Kalistani acts, including Kalistan's entry to the FOMAT II contest, Madysin Shakespeare in the poll. The director of programming on recently designated pop station KRTVN Radio 11, Eduardo Rivera, said "The fan response was overwhelming for the song. And the more we played it, the more they wanted it." In topping the charts as a foreign national, Secord has performed a feat not accomplished since the days of the Szarybeat bands from Valruzia, in the early 4400s. Secord, who was already a veteran pop singer before recording in Kalistan, won the inaugural FOMAT I competition in Deltaria two and a half years ago. Since then, she has been recording her newest album with ARC, and touring in support of the record. Her sales in Kalistan might be phenomenal, but overseas, she is really all anyone who is doing pop is talking about. "We really scored a hit with this one," said Secord's producer Dawn Gordon. "She really put her heart and soul into this, and even on the experimental stuff, stuff that might have been out of her comfort zone, she just embraced the opportunity and worked harder than any musician I've worked with before. A real professional, and I'm so glad the fans are helping it pay off for her. She really deserves this." Secord is expected to wrap up her tour in Kalistan with a live show at the International Music Hall of Fame Amphitheater in Luxon Ananto this May, and then she will return to Hutori. Gordon has already offered her a standing invitation to her to record anytime, but said Secord would like to take a break from working. "It's been a hard two years for her," said Gordon. "But really, she has this drive. I say let her enjoy her success for a while!" Secord's single, the fourth from the album, debuted on the Pop charts at number 15, four weeks ago, and gained strength from there. With sales and plays at their current level, "Love Isn't Crazy" promises to be her biggest hit to date. The Poll is conducted weekly, from all listeners to Channel 11, who are allowed to phone or text in as many votes as they like to help influence the charts. RE: Kalistani Major History - Doc - 27-01-2025 Quote:FOMAT-II Closes As Judges Announce Winner RE: Kalistani Major History - Doc - 27-01-2025 ![]() Kalistan to go into the international business of arms sales KalMilInCo to supply guns and small arms to Liore Port Eshar, Odufaray August 4787 ![]() M198 Howitzers from the National Proving Grounds at Sulari to be shipped to Liore The Kalistani Military Industrial Company, or KalMilInCo has authorized its first sale of weapons overseas. It will be filling an order from the country of Liore for 600 medium towed howitzers, as well as more than 200,000 Rifles and 40,000 of a mix between M60 Automatic Weapons and M2 50 Caliber automatic rifles. The small arms will be sold to Liore over the next 5-7 years. The bill for the weaponry will come in at a half a billion KRB. "We were approached by the Government of Liore, who is a third world nation, and were asked," said KalMilInCo spokesman Hiro Satori. "We had just finished supplying the regular army and are starting to rotate the Militia weapons through for servicing, and selling these weapons will allow our production to continue over the next 5 years." The service rifles are of the standard Kalistani Regular Kadashev design which the Regular Forces and Militia both use, that employs a 7.62 mm round, and serves as an all purpose, all weather rifle. "We're very proud of these rifles. Some wanted us to switch to a smaller caliber weapon, to save on weight of ammo more than anything else, but none have the durability and dependability of the Kadashevs, which is why we chose them." Satori also noted that they can be produced in a rush. "The tolerances on this weapon is simply amazing. We can devote research to barrel materials and rifling technology, and still produce thousands in a month." As for the M60s and M2 machine guns, these are far more difficult to produce. "The Kadashevs you and bury in sand or mud and they'll still fire dependably. The automatic weapons, not so much." These weapons need to be able to withstand a high rate of fire over an extended period of time. "We are working on lightening the barrel for the M2's with carbon fiber in the steel. But this is in the research stage at the moment. The M2s that Liore will get will be our standard .50 caliber machine gun." The Government chose to sell M60s to Liore over M246 because of the round. "M60s also use 7.62 rounds, making them usable with Kadashev ammo, or vice versa, in a pinch," said Satori. "Naturally, the Republic would also like to supply Liore with ammo." The M2s fire a .50 caliber round and can be mounted on a tripod or on a vehicle. "Our M2s have been used primarily at sea," said Satori. "The have a long, versatile history with the Republic." Kalistan has already begun working to fill the first delivery of more than 200 howitzers and several thousands of the small arms. The will arrive in Liore within the month, and RSMoK advisors will travel with the machines to ensure that the Liore military knows every bit about these weapons as our militia does. The Regulars have not been granted authorization to deploy on training missions overseas yet. The sale of these weapons, conforms to Kalistani law on weapons sales overseas, on a case by case basis. RE: Kalistani Major History - Doc - 27-01-2025 ![]() Kalistan welcomes home International FOMAT champion Madysin Shakespeare Judges handed the young Hi-NRG singer a victory Kaliburg, Ananto August 30, 4787 ![]() Madysin Shakespeare, winner of FOMAT II, lands in Kaliburg and takes picture with actor Henry DiBiase, who clearly does not know her Kalistani Pop sensation and winner of the second International FOMAT music contest, Yoshimi's own Madysin Shakespeare, returned to Kalistan this month to a hero's welcome. The Minister of Culture and Education was on hand to greet her at Kaliburg International Airport. "On behalf of the Republic, we would like to thank you for representing our nation before the world and giving it your all!" said Minister Jorge. The Minister of Culture named Ms. Shakespeare "Honorary Kalistani Music Ambassador" and a proclamation was read guaranteeing her free air travel for life in service of spreading Kalistani music globally. For her part, Ms. Shakespeare was very gracious. "I'd like to say, I am grateful for the opportunity to represent the Republic at the Contest. For all the fans who called in to the Stations, to all the fans who flew to Acton just to see the show, I owe this award to you. I mean: I was out there up against some really excellent talent, and you all came through for me. To the Radio Station and Channel 2 on TV, y'all also made this possible for me. And I am very thankful to be granted this award of Honorary Music Ambassador. Kalistan hasn't had one of those in a long time, and I am very proud and will not let you all down!" After the show, Shakespeare remained in Hutori for a couple months, as a guest of the Hutori star Erica Secord, who hit it big in the Kalistani pop market following her own triumph five years ago. Shakespeare and Secord apparently used at least part of the time to record a demo together, which is unlikely to be released. "We were just messing around in the studio," said Shakespeare in July. "Its not really that good, unless you are in on some jokes." Shakespeare returned to Kalistan to complete a tour which was postponed by the show. KMI records, who holds Ms. Shakespeare's contract, issued the following statement: "In light of Ms. Shakespeare's victory, we will offer to allow her to renegotiate her record contract. In addition, our A&R are currently looking for the next 'Madysin'. Nobody can ever top the original of course, but her victory, and the success of Secord in the Republic proves that there is clearly a market for this type of music, and KMI hopes to be in an excellent position to supply the demand of music consumers." Shakespeare will play six more dates in Kalistan before the end of September and then is expected to go back into the studio to record her third album for KMI. It is unknown whether Secord will contribute to the record: at the moment, Secord's label ARC is said to be extending Secord an option to record a follow-up of her own in the Republic, and rumors exist of a possible tour. "I just also wanna thank the judges, and the people of Hutori," said Shakespeare. "They were so kind to me, and I just want to say, if you like pop music, Hutori is blowing up right now! Check them out! It's really nice to see more scenes developing. I bet they give us a run for our money," she said with a smile. Madysin Shakespeare returns victorious. With her win, FOMAT-III will be held in Kalistan. The International Music Hall of Fame Arena in Luxon has been determined to be the site of the Contest in 5 years. The FOMAT committee in Kalistan, which is closely tied to the IMHoF has set January of 4791 as the beginning date to accept applications. Following Hutori's example, Kalistan will not compete in the next competition, but Shakespeare herself has been invited to sing, and then be a judge in the contest. RE: Kalistani Major History - Doc - 27-01-2025 ![]() Madysin Shakespeare named Singer of the Year Launches tour with newcomer Monica K. MacPhearson Yoshimi, Suldanor October 31, 4787 ![]() (From Left) Alicia Alvarez, Madysin Shakespeare, Monica K. MacPhearson grace cover of Kali Rawk Monthly FOMAT-II winner and pop star Madysin Shakespeare was named "Singer of the Year" in the recent readers poll of Kali Rawk Monthly. Her star has been on the rise since her victory in the summer at the international music contest, and fans apparently can't get enough of her. Editors noted the overwhelming preference for her in the readers poll, announcing that she had won the 10-person contest with a clear majority of votes. Pop as a genre remains a distinct minority of album sales in Kalistan, despite the success of Erica Secord's album and tour, and now Shakespeare's success, but there is an obvious personal preference for Shakespeare herself. Sai one fan, "She's fun and she's kind of silly and she's a very kind person. I feel like she really makes a positive contribution to the culture of our nation." Shakespeare shared the cover of Kali Rawk Monthly's special "Women in Rock" edition with the poll's second runner up Alicia Alvarez, a pop singer who switches between Egelian and Vrassan in her music, and newcomer Monica K. MacPhearson, whose music has been described as a mix between lite funk and dance, and features elements of soul and hiphop. "We are trying a fusion of sorts," said MacPhearson. "Kalistan is really a hot spot for new musical styles and mixes these days. My producer, Teddy Jamz, called this music rhythm and blues, though I think that's kind of a mouthful. I've always saw it is more like an easier going funk." MacPhearson will be a special guest on the Spring leg of Madysin Shakespeare's Kalistani tour, which will take them through all districts. "The Spring tour is gonna be a monster," said MacPhearson. "I mean, she [Shakespeare} is huge right now, and the venues she said we're being booked into are like 30,000, 40,000, you know... 50,000. The biggest crowds I've played in front of before are slightly larger than a block party." MacPhearson said with a laugh. "I mean... that's massive." Also, there is a growing rumor that Shakespeare is pressing KMI to add her new friend and fellow FOMAT winner, Hutorian singer Erica Secord to the Spring tour. "We're still in talks to get Erica down here," said Shakespeare recently on KRTVN-2. "KMI is hesitant to put an artist on contract with ARC on the tour. But I think we can persuade them." If Secord and Shakespeare tour together, the shows have the potential to be as big as the GanJam festivals. "Maybe, they'll invite us to our very own Jam." said Shakespeare. "They don't usually do pop music there and they haven't ever done MacPhearson's kinda funk there, so, maybe they'll try something new." While having a pop focused GanJam seems highly unlikely, it is not entirely out of the question that Shakespeare and her tour mates might be invited to perform one night at the Jam. "Something else we'll see about," said Shakespeare. For now, Madysin is the hottest celebrity in the Republic, and everything she touches turn to money. And the pop Music genre is beginning to gain traction among young Kalistani music fans. RE: Kalistani Major History - Doc - 27-01-2025 Quote: |
