QART QILDAR—"Serious! Very serious!" a statement largely resonated among the people across Qart Qildar, raising their demands of a real change in their country's social, political, and economic situation. Crime has skyrocketed in the past decades due to the lack of funding and political will in law enforcement reforms. Corruption permeated in all levels of the government resulting in apathy and distrust toward officials, forming a considerable hopelessness among the population. Economic activities stagnate with heavy restrictions, widespread corruption and crime, and degradation of diplomatic relations. The country had spiraled out of control and the people voiced enough for a shift of perspective in Cildania.

For the first time in decades, the majority elected a new, flourishing party with a bold mandate for change— Ulied Kildanja (Children of Cildania). The party's "open view, open skies, and open space" platform seeks to address issues the government and its institutions have failed to mitigate. Numerous government reforms will be conducted in hopes of boosting transparency, reducing bureaucracy, and forming efficiency in its budget. Law enforcement agencies will be empowered through the increase of funding, an update of outdated protocols, and a swift approach against criminal activities. Repeals of policies in the past administrations will be suggested to restore actual economic activity within the country.

However, such initiatives will be an easy-to-say, hard-to-do challenge as they face a country just starting its shift of opinions. After all, its events in the past years were many but insignificant.

A Modern Decay: Is There Still Hope?

QART QILDAR - The nation is trapped in a deadlock caused by various political and social issues that not only hinder economic progress but have also contributed to a decline. Prominent political families and dynasties have maintained a cycle of corruption, quick to exploit the system and take advantage of the poor and middle class. The vague promises of a brighter future have repeatedly failed to deliver, leaving the ordinary Cildanian man without the sustainable and comfortable life that was promised. Undoubtedly, crime has intensified over the years as people grow distressed and desperate to salvage what little remains in the deteriorating social landscape. In short, the current economic and social conditions in Cildania have led to a loss of hope among the people, but should this despair be unavoidable?

A Declaration of Fairness and Transparency

QART QILDAR — In the light of allegations of widespread corruption and inefficient governance, Prime Minister Nuseir Tifalli declared a snap national and local election to be conducted on the first Monday of September 5650. This, he claimed, was for restoring trust to the people, seeing a growing threat to stability and prosperity through a malicious campaign of disinformation. Prime Minsiter Tifalli's declaration was a response to a two-page article from a local newspaper which called on the government as a "pariah in front of its neighbors which have surpassed Cildania in different levels".

"Our nation is doing wonderfully! Look at the nightlife in the streets of Qart Qildar, the peaceful hills in the south of Kinaan, and the plentiful produce around Jilrit. They are the proofs of prosperity," he said during the mandatory nationwide broadcast of the declaration. Throughout the years, Cildania have steadily progressed on its internal development, thanks to harmonious efforts of public and private sectors. Despite limited budget on many projects, the country have noticeably recovered from the stark incompetence of the previous administrations.

The opposition leader Silvestre Alberto blasted the address as being "deceitful and egotistic." He claimed this as a political propaganda to fog the controversies surrounding the president and cover pending court cases against its cronies. He also mentioned that the country "had never been well", given on the evergoing effects of corruption in the daily lives of Cildanians. Meanwhile, the main opposition party expressed the snap election as a "big opportunity" to call the entire opposition to unify on the terms of replacing the current government for a full-on rebranding of the political landscape of Cildania. Despite of this, the main opposition party wished for the election to be fair, safe, and transparent.

The first residence immediately retaliated on the opposition, "Outrageous as it is, this has always been the other side. They can call on the administration anything that they want, but we shall let the people decide which will become the better government through voting in the snap election." After the statement, it advised a public awareness in media misinformation and continuous support on the current administration. It has yet to detail on the election process and campaign but promised that the election will not be tainted with any manipulation or foreign influence.

Government Remaining in Dullness?

QART QILDAR — Fifteen years after the country's first formal election, a new government now stands before the people. However, it seems dull and simply a copy of the old one, stuck to promises and dreams. Since the election of 5650, life has somewhat improved, but progress has been minimal. Wages have increased, but the quality of life has not. Roads have been repaired but are still problematic despite maintenance. Production is abundant, yet the economy has remained steady since then. There have been no major upheavals, political disruptions, scandals, or surprises.

The country faces another problem: stagnation. While other nations grow and innovate, Cildania remains still, holding onto its current position. While other places experience steady growth, Cildania only shows flatlining results in the long term. Outside, renewal continues, but inside, the country feels stuck in time. This presents a dilemma for the new government. This situation—more or less a repeat of the old—will challenge this new administration to either break free or follow the same path.

A Fragile Unity: Parliament Approves the New Government

QART QILDAR — A new government, led by Supreme Chancellor Mirella Douraki, has been officially formed after a confrontational exchange in the Cildania Parliament and a generous agreement between the ruling party, Partit Ulied Kildanja (PUK), or Children of Cildania, and their coalition partner, Partit għal Wieħed (PgW), or the Unity Party. With a vote of 112 in favor and 88 against, the new cabinet is confirmed and now prepared to address the country's current challenges of stagnation.

During the 5665 election, it was known that PUK only received 78 seats, about two dozen short of a majority. Since PgW holds 34 seats and is the most politically compatible with PUK, they agreed to form a coalition, giving them a combined total of 112 seats. This coalition was not surprising, considering they have also formed coalitions together over the past 15 years since the 5650 election. Reactions from the opposition were the same—appalled and still angered.

Some cabinet appointments were somewhat controversial. For example, the Finance and Economy Minister Sofia Benyamina (PUK) was branded by critics as "the oligarch's accountant." This disappointed the leader of the opposition party, Qawwa - Demokratiċi Hosjani (QDH), who quoted that "the people are needing bread, not bankers." The other controversial appointment was Environment and Energy Minister Dr. Karim Abedlati, accused by the green party Azzjoni Progressiva (AP) of being "only green to his neckties" because he recently wore a "eco-friendly necktie" while approving the construction of new gas plants. In response to these criticisms, the leader of the coalition partner party, Lucio Barrenechea, said: "To my friends in the opposition: let us not mistake sarcasm for governance. The people voted for stability, and stability we shall deliver. Our ministers are pragmatic, and it should be, as pragmatism is the backbone of democracy."

In the end, the chamber was somehow content that a new government is formed, though suspects that the honeymoon phase of Douraki's administration will be "incredibly short". Outside the parliament, meanwhile, the populace feels that the new government will be more disconnected than ever, causing a much long period of stagnation. Some may call it "the most elitist government in recent memory", while some even say it is "a stable but not a working government."

A Five-Decade Plan for a Five-Decade Renewal

QART QILDAR — Two years into the Douraki administration, the government remains stable yet considerably fragile, given its weak grip on the parliament majority. The cracks of long-term stagnation unsealed, and the nation's history of corruption unresolved.

Last week, Supreme Chancellor Mirella Douraki unveiled an ambitious 50-year roadmap of transforming the country into a well-deserving center for sustainability, cooperation, and stability. Pjan ta’ Ħamsin Sena (Fifty-Year Plan), as it was called, serves to be the start of a "national renewal", claiming that the period of stagnation shall come to an end. A set of sweeping policies was placed, including a 50% renewable energy use by 5700, eradication of illiteracy by 5675, and a whopping 250% GDP growth after the five-decade realization. Such a plan, given its length, will be passed from one administration to another, promising a continuation of such initiatives for its success. "Long have we held conflicts between classes, between sectors, and between beliefs. Today is our very chance to do what should have been done in the past. Today is where we decide to inherit hope, not decay," Chancellor Douraki stated in her lofty rhetoric at the currently-renovating first residence.

The opposition considered the five-decade plan as "a plain paper of promises", claiming its plan to be just an irony of the administration's inaction to long-standing issues. The workers' KĦK party leader Nazario Bellincioni reacted, "What is a Free Innovation Zone but a playground for oligarchs while Kildanjan workers scrape by almost nothing?" He referenced the plan's economic agenda to establish "Free Innovation Zones" in every major cities in hopes to attract foreign investment. Meanwhile, Azzjoni Progressiva (AP) head advocate Almira Ganza claimed the plan is "not green enough", reacting that such plans are too late for the country to adjust to global changes in the environment. Unsurprisingly, the Qawwa – Demokratiċi Hosjani (QDH) called the plan as "a campaign for a faithless Cildanian society", noting that it do not present any initiative that will favor anything related to the church.

Political analysts marked that the creation of this plan might be the country's turning point to its politics despite of the uncertainty of people's preference between long-term vision and short-term solutions. While majority of the people supported the plan, including its contents, they question of the government's "sudden action" after its inaction to socioeconomic issues. They also questioned of the government's technocratic approach.

Currently, there are five major political parties in Cildania, each serving significant roles in the nation's landscape. After the fall of the old parties around 5651, the people agreed on a multi-party system to emerge in the legislative branch, so as to ensure no single party would considerably dominate and proliferate ever again like the old parties before. We shall dive into each party, but for the purpose of addressing a question, we answer the names of the current political parties in Cildania.

A First Coalition Win on Fiscal Renewal Act

QART QILDAR— The new coalition government led by Supreme Chancellor Mirella Douraki officially passed a highlight legislation after a fiery debate on fiscal responsibilities in the Council of Deputies yesterday. They passed Fiscal Renewal Act of 5668 with the votes of 112 ayes, 70 nays, and 18 abstentions. The act spearheads funding for the current administration's Five-Decade Plan, adjusting modest corporate taxes and facilitating major investments in transportation and energy. Not only that, it also introduces numerous fiscal responsibilities for the government, including the establishment of the country's sovereign wealth fund, the setting of a debt ceiling, and adjustments on the personal income tax for inflation. Firstly, the tax specifically raises the corporate tax rate from 22% to 25%, while giving tax incentives to companies belonging to the renewable energy and digital infrastructure sectors. Secondly, the sovereign wealth fund will be seeded with around five billion worth of currency which will be funded from the corporate tax increase and foreign reserves. Lastly, the government shall introduce a debt ceiling of 65% of the country's GDP as part of creating a "high fiscal discipline" to fund Cildania's upcoming projects.

"The coalition have made the comprehensive bill as the starting point for funding the country's national development, from its transport system to its pursuit of a green energy grid. It is a program of responsibility, the very opportunity for the government to work on its duties and initiatives for the people." This is the statement from Chancellor Douraki before the parliament before she asked for a full parliamentary approval. The opposition remained opposed, unsurprisingly, with the words of the far-right and far-left parties echoing in the chamber. "You say this a responsibility, but this is an abandonment of national values. It seems to be overlooked that the funds suggested by the bill will support ZERO to some of our deeply valued religious schools. Where is the responsibility? Why this government is moving away from its identity?" Hosian democrat leader Terenzio Qassimi exposed. Meanwhile, workers' party leader Bellincioni shouted, "Sovereign fund and green bonds? Such an elitist terms only to say an alignment of fund to the pockets of the rich, and not to the workers." His co-party members joined him in booing the ruling party, but was immediately addressed by the speaker. The progressivists, though somehow in favor of the act, saw it as "not green enough", leading for their abstention of 18 votes.

Small businesses and entrepreneurs saw the passed act as "good start" with the government iniatives to stimulate economic growth. They were hoping for this to reduce bureaucracy and ensure a growth for the businesses. However, the act faced skepticism within the rural areas and largely conservative base, comparing the act to the Tower of Akkad and saying it as "reform only for cities, not farms". Many things can be said, but the government has been clear with doing changes in the government's funding plan for its fifty-year long worth of projects.

First Residence Posts Official Cildanian Map

QART QILDAR— To celebrate the new year, the first residence released an official map of Cildania, displaying the names of the states, cities, and townships in the country. In the government gazette that contained the map, they quoted, "our lands and borders are undoubtedly part of our identity, and we must show it to the world that we are proud to be part of such a glorious country." The map is remarkably minimalistic, only featuring national boundaries, regional borders, and the names of every city and town. The dots are displayed based on the size of a city or town, such that the biggest dot is the capital, Qart Qildar, and the smallest dots are local administrative centers, such as Ieves in Aheblun and Har Jafe in Kinaan.
