Senior minister in the Mwangi government is accused of nepotism and favouritism towards his relatives

Allegations of unqualification, nepotism and corruption have shook the nation and the incumbent Mwangi government following the release of an explosive independent report investigating the conduct of the finance minister Mbita Kipkorir. The report, authored by a team of investigative journalists has shown a damning picture of the state of affairs within in the government and finance ministry especially during Kipkorir's tenure, accusing him of systematically favouring his relatives in high-level ministry, and sometimes even the other parts of the government appointments and public sector tenders. Investigation report has described the findings as an "ecosystem of kleptocracy", outlining what became a network of unqualified hires, weird recruiment practices by the Kipkorir and total misuse and laundering of public taxpayer funds.

Among the most serious accusations are the appointment of Kipkorir's brother to a strategic position within the Federal Revenue Authority (MMS), without any prior consultation with the MMS leaders, the government or Prime Minister in that matter. The law allows for a minister to bypass public contest for any high-level positions, but only in a couple instances, most of them revolving around the emergency law. Other accusations involve the wide amount of evidence of the inflated procurement contracts awarded by the ministry, its privatisation agencies and others to companies linked to the extended family of the minister. And nonetheless serious accusation of the intimidation and patronage, according to a group of whistleblowers who have helped the investigation, yet later faced the dismissal personally from the minister Kipkorir.

Kipkorir himself has dismissed the report and the claims of misconduct in the report as "politically motivated", accusing opposition parties and foreign actors of "blatant lies, full of manipulations". And while the Prime Minister Mwangi is yet to answer our and other journalists' questions regarding the report, many opposition figures have called for the immedtiate resignation of Kipkorir and a full length parliamentary inquiry into the actions of the minister, while the non-government and civil society organisations have echoed the sentiment, warning that unless the PM dismiss Kipkorir, the whole government could be at risk of facing the civil protests.

Formation of the Public Interest Party; "The Mwangi Government has failed in its objectives to help the working class."

The recent allegations of corruption and nepotism within the Mwangi Government has seen opposition parties trying to gain momentum against the incumbent government. But, it has also lead to disassociation from the left. This has lead to the formation of an opposition party from the left. The Public Interest Party, subscribing to social democratic beliefs, progressive governance, and anti-corruption given the latest scandal. The formation of Public Interest has allowed the Liori left to have the ability to consolidate itself under a non incumbent aligned banner. Kimathi Gathigira has quickly established himself as head of the party and has been in no rush to bash Mwangi Government, and the incumbent party.

The Mwangi government set out with a vision to help the working class. But it's clear that the Mwangi Government has failed in its objectives to help the working class. Liore deserves better. You deserve better.

The PIP has already looked to consolidate left wing voters and take advantage of the scandal, but it's hard to say if it'll pay off as it's currently too early to say anything. Whatever the case, the Public Interest Party is looking to promote a new vision for Liore. Whether they succeed like the rest of the opposition is an entirely different question however. But for now, pressure continues to rise on the Mwangi Government.

A new dawn: The founding of the Liore People's Party

The foundation of the Liore People's Party was announced by Chane Tambo after numerous allegations about the ruling Mwangi government regarding nepotism and corruption. This includes various claims that finance minister Mbita Kipkorir had family members involved in the Federal Revenue Authority leadership. This was the final straw for Mr. Chane Tambo who, after so long, decided to do something about the inherent corruption in the Mwangi cabinet.

It was thus announced in Naranpa today that the Liore People's Party, a centrist to centre right party, will be founded and will contest the upcoming elections. The party will govern on, according to Tambo himself, "responsible government, a people's government, proper government and lawful government" and that he will fight like a lion against the corruption plaguing our great Liore.

The leadership of the Liore People's Party will include various academics, economists and more in order to allow a potential opposition LPP-led government to be able to tackle the day to day responsibilities of government without the need for corrupting influence. However, time will tell whether or not a LPP-led government can survive the taste of corruption.

This wouldn't be the first time an opposition party was made in response to Mwangi's government. The Liore People's Party will also go head to head with the Public Interest Party which has leftist tendencies and wants a social democratic future. When asked whether or not he can work with a PIP government, Tambo said that if the PIP can keep the budget balanced then he is fine with what the PIP needs to do so long as it benefits Liore economically and militarily in the end.

The LPP has already begun to see popularity in various parts of the country with the centre and the moderates starting to flock towards the party of Tambo. However, it remains to be seen whether this momentum can be directed at the elections or whether it will be another opposition party failing in the wind of party politics.

Fragmented opposition forces defeat the ruling Patriotic Front of Liore, ending PFL's decades-long dominance over Liore's political system

It came in a major shock and upset for the leaders of the ruling Patriotic Front, when the first preliminary results were announced by the Federal Electoral Authority: there is no more "red" majority. Decades of the PFL rule were interrupted by a bunch of the newcomer parties completely different from one another and ideologically incoherent, to the point where it will remain unknown how and who will form the new governing coalition in this post-PFL domination reality. PFL secretary-general Hamidi Mtafya has said that these results are not "terrible", but are "rather unnacceptable" for the party leads, and has announced that there will be "homework done" to examine what has gone wrong, and how PFL can return its domination.

Following the announcement from the FEA, new elites and major political forces spoke about the first results, including a leader of the Public Interest Party, Kimathi Gathigira: "We thank the trust emplaced upon us by the public with these results. Public Interest will work with anyone who will serve the public, free of corruption. There is much work ahead for the National Assembly but I am certain that we can achieve a government that serves the public interest".

Meanwhile, Chane Tambo, leader of the Liore People's Party, who came third overall in the election, replacing United Democratic Party as the main right-of-centre political party, spoke about the results on the election night. "The obvious thing here is that there is genuine political interest in change. The ruling party is ruling no more, they don't have a majority, they'll have to work with the opposition to get things done. We are ready to work with anyone in order to make sure the people's will is respected through peace, order and good governance. Let no man or woman in the high halls of power reject today's victory of the people". LPP leader previously and on the election night spoke positively about any future cooperation with other opposition parties, including PIP, who came second, mostly benefiting from the PFL collapse.

With PFL not making up the majority of the lower chamber, and their ways to form a government being limited with the amount of anti-PFL parties represented, one would say the next government will be either a compromise between PFL and PIP or a grand big tent coalition of all opposition parties. Neither option brings optimism and certainty in stability and future of the nation, but we can only hope.

President Kamau Nyoike appoints technocrat Hodari Mbaya to lead a five-way coalition government

After months of negotiations between 7 political forces within the National Assembly in what became one of, if not the most fractured Liori legislatures citizens have ever seen. Nyoike, who led PFL before being elected president, now will enter a "cohabition" period with the new government, as PFL was left out of the coalition agreement of five parties from all over the political spectrum. Technocrat Mbaya was proposed as a a compromise candidate for the position of Prime Minister, as three parties: PIP, LPP and UDP could not agree on a person to lead the frankenstein coalition. Addtionally, conservative Uhuru has also voiced its concern with a PIP premiership, thus cornerning the party. Now, Mbaya, who despite being a technocrat, is widely seen to be affiliated with PIP nevertheless ideologically, and a close friend and ally of PIP's leader Kimathi Gathigira.

A five-way coalition agreement seems to be focusing on the continuation of the welfare state, though not as radically as PFL did, nor as much as PIP would ideally want, but again, compromises. Uhuru proposals put at the table seem to be electoral and political reforms to "keep PFL out of power for as long as possible", sources within the negotiation process told Shirikisho. LPP and UDP are focused at similar ideas both to PIP and Uhuru, though LPP specifically mentions "unity and stability", but also "enhancing the democratic process" and "ending the state domination of media, freedom of thought and conscience".

PM-designate Mbaya, speaking before the press following his nomination by the President, said that he hopes and awaits for a "good governance for the betterment of the nation and its people", saying that in such turbulent times there must be a "proper pathway put forward before the people, so that the citizens are certain that any change will not be chaotic". President Nyoike agreed with PM-designate Mbaya, and wished the new premier good luck in his "complex, yet honorable work", adding "for as long as this coalition keeps itself together" jokingly, though Mbaya was visibly uncomfortable with the joke.

Now, newly-appointed PM has to gather a cabinet list and present it and the government program before the National Assembly for an investiture vote.

Liore prepares to open its markets for worldwide investments, reverting decades-long isolation protectionism of PFL, PM Mbaya announced

New government under the leadership of a technocrat Hodari Mbaya begins to deliver first major reforms following the appointment less than a year ago. PM Mbaya during a meeting with regional governors spoke about his first year as the chief of government, achievements the new coalition has achieved and what is there more planned. One of the planned major reforms that the new government has been working on and will present soon, according to the PM Mbaya is a liberalisation of the economy, after the Patriotic Front regime has been exercing extreme levels of protectionism for decades. At the same time, Mbaya reaffirmed his government's committment to the workers right, adding that the government will fight for the "best interests of the workers, not corporations".

Mbaya's government vision involve slow but detailed audit of all state-owned enterprises and reevaluation of the reasons as to why the government still owns it; if the conclusion is negative, the government will proceed towards a privatisation of the enterprise, with a months prior notice to all of its workers about the process, to give time to find new jobs, with government's help; if, however, the conclusion is positive, government will look into what could be done about improving the conditions of workers in the state-owned enterprises and what could be done to make services better, more affordable and profitable for the government.

Prime Minister Mbaya also announced that the federal government is going to increased funding for the regions, especially rural ones, to decrease inquality, and allow for more opportunities and investments to arrive in "usually forgotten and distant places" of Liore, a topic close to PM's heart, as he himself was born in a rural county.
