INTERVIEW WITH DJORDJE MIKETIC,LEADER OF PROGRESIVA

Q:Mr.Miketic,thanks for being here with us today.I would like to begin this interview with simple but important question. What made you get in political arena and form a political party Progresiva?
Djordje Miketić: Thank you for having me. That’s a great question, and one I think about often. My decision to enter politics and form Progresiva came from a deep frustration with the way things were being done in Likatonia. As a dentist and NGO activist, I worked closely with communities and saw firsthand the challenges people face—inequality, environmental degradation, corruption, and a lack of real opportunities for ordinary citizens.
It became clear to me that the existing political parties were more focused on maintaining their own power than addressing these issues. There was a void—a need for a party that truly represented progress, unity, and opportunity for all. Progresiva was born out of that realization. I wanted to create a platform for change, one that prioritizes people over politics and takes bold steps to secure a sustainable and just future for Likatonia.
Q: Progresiva has quickly gained attention for its progressive policies and opposition to the Grand Coalition. What do you believe sets your party apart from the traditional political forces in Likatonia?
Djordje Miketić: What sets Progresiva apart is our unwavering commitment to principles over political convenience. Unlike the traditional parties, which seem more interested in maintaining their power through backroom deals and coalitions like the so-called Grand Coalition, Progresiva prioritizes the needs of the people.
We are not afraid to take bold stances on critical issues—whether it’s protecting the environment, fighting for social justice, or challenging entrenched political elites. Our policies, like the GMO Ban and the Forest Renewal and Sustainability Act, demonstrate that we’re thinking about the future, not just the next election.
Moreover, we believe in transparency and accountability. Progresiva doesn’t just talk about progress; we embody it by engaging directly with citizens through grassroots campaigns and ensuring their voices are at the center of everything we do. We’re building a movement that’s about more than politics—it’s about creating a Likatonia that works for everyone, not just the privileged few.
Q: One of Progresiva’s key focuses has been on environmental sustainability, with initiatives like the GMO Ban and the Forest Renewal and Sustainability Act. Why is environmental policy such a central part of your platform?
Djordje Miketić: Environmental sustainability is central to Progresiva because it’s not just about protecting nature—it’s about protecting our future. The health of our environment directly impacts our economy, our food security, and the well-being of every citizen in Likatonia. If we ignore these issues now, future generations will bear the cost of our inaction.
Initiatives like the GMO Ban ensure the safety of our food and preserve our agricultural traditions, while the Forest Renewal and Sustainability Act focuses on combating deforestation and promoting biodiversity. These policies are about more than just environmental protection; they create jobs, support small farmers, and strengthen communities.
Likatonia’s natural resources are some of our greatest assets, and it’s our responsibility to manage them wisely. By making environmental policy a cornerstone of our platform, Progresiva is showing that we’re serious about building a sustainable, resilient future for everyone—not just for today, but for generations to come.
Q: Progresiva has positioned itself as a strong opposition force to the Grand Coalition. What is your biggest criticism of the coalition, and how does Progresiva offer an alternative?
Djordje Miketić: Our biggest criticism of the Grand Coalition is that it prioritizes political power over the needs of the people. The coalition is an alliance of convenience, made up of parties that have fundamentally different ideologies but are united by their desire to maintain control. This has led to stagnation, indecision, and policies that benefit the elite while neglecting ordinary citizens.
The Grand Coalition operates behind closed doors, making compromises that water down meaningful reforms. Their focus is on preserving the status quo rather than addressing the urgent challenges we face, whether it’s inequality, corruption, or environmental degradation.
Progresiva offers a clear alternative. We are a party of action and principles, not convenience. Our policies are bold, transparent, and focused on building a sustainable future. Unlike the coalition, we actively engage with citizens through grassroots campaigns and prioritize their voices in shaping our agenda.
We believe in genuine progress, not political gamesmanship. Progresiva is here to challenge the system, break the cycle of complacency, and prove that politics can be about solutions and opportunity for all, not just power for a few.
Q: Critics argue that some of Progresiva’s policies, such as the GMO Ban and the nationwide forest renewal mandates, could hurt economic growth and burden businesses. How do you respond to these concerns?
Djordje Miketić: I understand those concerns, but I respectfully disagree with the premise. Progresiva’s policies are designed to ensure sustainable, long-term growth—not just short-term profits. The idea that environmental sustainability and economic prosperity are at odds is outdated. In fact, they go hand in hand.
Take the GMO Ban, for example. By focusing on natural, local agriculture, we’re creating opportunities for small farmers to thrive without being dependent on multinational corporations. This approach promotes food security, protects public health, and supports local economies. Similarly, the Forest Renewal and Sustainability Act isn’t just about protecting nature—it’s about creating jobs in reforestation, sustainable forestry, and ecotourism.
Businesses need to adapt to the realities of the 21st century, including the growing demand for green and ethical practices. Progresiva is paving the way for an economy that’s resilient, innovative, and equitable. If we fail to address environmental challenges now, the economic costs will be far greater in the future.
We’re not against businesses; we’re against practices that harm our people and planet. Progresiva is here to prove that economic growth can—and should—be sustainable.
Q: Progresiva has grown rapidly, but with that comes the challenge of ensuring that your party remains united and effective. How do you plan to handle internal disagreements or differing viewpoints within Progresiva as the party continues to expand?
Djordje Miketić: That’s an important question, and I believe it’s one of the strengths of Progresiva. As a party, we value diverse perspectives and open dialogue. Our strength lies in our ability to bring together people from different backgrounds and experiences who share a common vision for a better Likatonia. Disagreements are natural in any political movement, and they’re an opportunity for growth and refinement of our ideas.
However, what sets Progresiva apart is our commitment to unity and collaboration. We have a clear set of core values—sustainability, social justice, and transparency—that guide us. When disagreements arise, we focus on those principles, working together to find common ground that moves us forward.
It’s also important to foster a culture of respect and constructive debate, where every member feels heard and valued. Progresiva isn’t just about one person or one group of people—it’s about creating a movement that’s inclusive and open to diverse ideas while remaining committed to our overarching goals.
As we grow, we will continue to ensure that our party remains a space where different viewpoints can coexist, but our shared vision for Likatonia’s future will always keep us focused and united.
Q: With the next election in 5994 approaching, what are Progresiva’s main goals, and how do you plan to ensure your party remains competitive against established forces?
Djordje Miketić: The upcoming election in 5994 is a pivotal moment for Likatonia. For Progresiva, our main goals are clear: we aim to continue expanding our influence, push forward our key policies like environmental sustainability, social justice, and economic reform, and challenge the status quo that has failed so many of our citizens.
We plan to remain competitive by staying true to our core values and offering voters a real alternative to the tired politics of the traditional parties. Our grassroots campaigning will be stronger than ever, ensuring that we’re engaging with communities directly, listening to their concerns, and building a platform that reflects their needs. Progresiva has always been about the people, not the politicians, and that’s how we’ll stay connected to our base.
Additionally, our commitment to transparent, forward-thinking policies gives us a strong edge. People are looking for a party that is not just talking about change but actively working toward it. With the growing support of younger voters, our environmental policies, and our clear opposition to the current political elite, I am confident that Progresiva will gain even more momentum in the next election. We won’t just participate in the election—we’re here to win and bring real change to Likatonia.
Q: With the proposed constitutional reforms that aim to streamline the governance system in Likatonia, how do you think these changes will impact the upcoming election, and what role do you see Progresiva playing in this new political landscape?
Djordje Miketić: The proposed constitutional reforms will have a significant impact on the upcoming election. By merging the offices of Head of State and Head of Government, the reforms will centralize power and likely shift the dynamics of how campaigns are run and how citizens perceive their leadership. It will create a more unified executive branch, which could lead to clearer policy direction, but it also means we need to be vigilant about preventing too much power being concentrated in the hands of a few.
For Progresiva, these changes provide both challenges and opportunities. On one hand, we will need to adapt our approach to a more centralized system, where the Head of State also holds executive powers. On the other hand, the reforms create a unique chance for us to push for a more accountable and transparent government, which has always been at the heart of our platform.
We believe that Progresiva, with its focus on fairness, sustainability, and equality, is the party that can best navigate these changes. Our principles of transparent leadership, empowerment of citizens, and holding those in power accountable will resonate strongly in this new political landscape. We’ll continue to be the voice of those who want change—not just in the structure of government, but in how policies truly serve the people. We’re ready to lead Likatonia into this new era with fresh ideas and a commitment to justice.
Q: Mr. Miketić, with the proposed constitutional reforms combining the roles of Head of State and Head of Government, do you see yourself running for the newly consolidated office, and what would your vision be for the role if you did?
Djordje Miketić: At this stage, my focus remains firmly on advancing Progresiva’s policies and ensuring that we’re bringing real change to Likatonia. While I respect the significant responsibilities that the role of Head of State and Head of Government would entail, I’m not making any personal decisions about running for that office just yet. My priority is to lead Progresiva in advocating for sustainable, equitable policies that address the pressing issues facing our country.
However, if the time comes and I do choose to run, my vision would be to bring principled, transparent leadership that reflects the values of our party. I believe the role requires someone who listens to the people, upholds the rule of law, and prioritizes the long-term well-being of the nation. It’s not about holding power for power’s sake—it’s about creating a government that works for every citizen and builds a fairer, more sustainable future for all. But for now, I remain dedicated to strengthening our movement and bringing our progressive vision to life.
Q: Mr. Miketić, if the second round of the upcoming election comes down to a choice between the National Democratic Party (NDP) and the Social Conservative Party (SCP), would you consider endorsing either of them, or would Progresiva stand firm in opposing both?
Djordje Miketić: While Progresiva’s core values and vision for Likatonia remain at odds with both the NDP and SCP, we recognize the importance of preventing a continued consolidation of power by the Social Conservative Party, which has shown time and again that it will prioritize conservative ideologies over the needs of the people.
With that in mind, if the second round comes down to a choice between the NDP and SCP, Progresiva will reluctantly recognize the necessity of supporting the NDP, though this endorsement is far from enthusiastic. We do so with the understanding that the NDP, despite its shortcomings, offers a more moderate path compared to the extreme right-wing policies of the SCP. However, this is not an endorsement of the NDP’s past actions or policies, and we will continue to hold them accountable. Our focus remains on building a true alternative that offers the people of Likatonia the progressive change they deserve.
Q: Mr. Miketić, with Likatonia facing numerous challenges in the coming years, from economic recovery to political reform, what do you see as the most urgent issue your party will tackle first, should Progresiva gain more power in the next election?
Djordje Miketić: The most urgent issue for Progresiva, should we gain more power, is undoubtedly addressing inequality and creating a fairer economic system. Likatonia’s working families and marginalized communities have been neglected for far too long, and it’s time for that to change. We need to tackle the growing wealth gap, improve access to quality education, healthcare, and housing, and provide support to small businesses and local farmers who are the backbone of our economy.
In addition to economic reform, environmental sustainability is also a pressing priority. Climate change is already impacting our communities, and we need to act swiftly to protect our natural resources while building a green economy that creates jobs and supports long-term prosperity.
Lastly, we will focus on political reform to ensure transparency and accountability in government. The days of backroom deals and unchecked corruption must end. Progresiva’s vision is to create a Likatonia where every citizen has an equal opportunity to succeed, where the government works for the people, and where we build a sustainable future for generations to come.
