MLRS PURCHASED FOR ARTILLERY UNITS

Defense Ministry September 13, 5601:   CLAIRON PICARD sources in the Defense Ministry have learned that Defense Minister Marcel Augereau has approved the recommendation of the National Army Chief of Staff endorsed by the National Defense Chief of Staff that multiple rocket launcher systems be added to the standard artillery regiment armament of self propelled howitzers, mortars and surface to air missiles systems.
 
To do this the Ministry of Defense’s Director General of Defense Acquisition (EGAD) is directed to make arrangements with the Kanjorean subsidiary of Canrillaise Defense Systems in Communaute de Kanjor which together with the Dundorfische firm . Fuchstal Elektrisch, will produce the FE Schnellreparturraketen light multiple rocket launcher systems for our artillery regiments.
 
EGAD believes after consultation with the contractors, all deliveries can be completed in 46 months .

KANJOR EXPECTS TO JOIN MORDUSIANS AND LUTHORIANS IN ATTACKING TERRORISTS IN ALDURIA

Governor General’s Palace, November 20, 5602: The Governor General’s Office issued the following statement:
 

When we closed our border of Numineux Province with Vallee Region of Alduria, we began receiving many many refuges from the brutal terrorist rule.  We have refuge receiving stations in place organized by the National Gendarmerie who are assisted in processing and assessing the needs of refuges by personnel from the Foreign Ministry and the Directorate of Internal Security.
 
With refuges giving extensive reports of mass executions, enslavement and plans for worse by the terrorists, we have decided to intervene. We understand the Mordusians and Luthorians are doing the same.  We are making three initial steps.
 
First, the Canrille Union’s Imperial Command Headquarters has ordered 2nd, 4th and 5th Imperial Fleets to seal off coastal access to Alduria for receiving military supplies, reinforcements, arms and equipment supported by the National Navy’s Task Force 11, submarines of Task Forces 21 and 22 together with the long distance reconnaissance aircraft and multirole fighter bombers of Naval Air Wing 50.
 
Luthori will likely be also imposing naval interdiction as may Mordusia.  The 2nd Imperial Fleet is equipped with Soteira technology preventing a lot of aerial interference, and it is generally believed any Artanian or other distant power would bring with it inadequate air support to actually penetrate our defenses.
 
Second, the two National Army Corps stationed at the border of Numineux Province and Vallee Region, Alduria, each consisting of one armored and three mechanized divisions, are advancing steadily with ground support from two National Air Force wings of multirole fighter bombers.  The terrorists are believed to have earlier received some small arms and heavier weaponry from the Kundrati Union so some resistance was expected,  and some resistance has occurred in individual cases, but to date the main activity has been breaking up formations preparing to murder large groups of local inhabitants.  Most terrorists have fallen back in good order but some were so engrossed in their work that they waited too long to flee and escape capture.  We have advanced about 111 kilometers so far from all points of the border
 
Observed activity and accounts by freed villagers would make one believe all the terrorists do is kill their fellow Aldurians, but clearly they have  organized leadership.  Accordingly, the military assessment given the Government is that at some point either they will make a concerted stand with what weaponry they can concentrate or they will try to initiate cease fire talks.
 
Third, in any event we have a worse problem.  In addition to murdering a considerable amount of their citizenry, and trying to enslave quite a few others, the terrorists have severely disrupted economic activity and everyday life by creating a huge flood of Aldurians simply trying to escape. So as we advance we are encountering a tremendous quantity of victims who for the time being are simply looking for  safety, food, water and shelter.
 
Not an easy task or an inexpensive one but we will provide those things. A Provisional Support Corps has been formed by the National Army Staff largely from several infantry divisions to deal with the refuges in the areas in Alduria to the rear of our advance to take care of their immediate needs and try to restart something approaching normal life in the liberated areas to the extent possible.  A very daunting task.
 
While from a distance their only purpose seems to be imitation of the lamentable regime in the Kundrati Union, the terrorists in fact secured control of Alduria with little or no opposition collapsing the socialist government that had seemed viable and which at that time was part of the Union of Canrille.  Which leads us to believe the terrorist leadership may be far more clever and resilient than they appear and their elimination more difficult.
 
Further, should Luthori, Mordusia and Kanjor succeed in driving out the terrorists in Alduria and eliminating their leadership, we may well be hard pressed to find elements capable of governing Alduria in view of the quick collapse of the prior government and the lack of serious opposition to the terrorist regime taking control.  It appears there have been protests against the slave labor laws; this could be where citizens capable of bringing Alduria back from the abyss may be found.
 
As an entirely separate matter, Task Force 12 and National Army and National Air Force assets have been with withdrawn from the Lourennais naval base in Aldegar and have returned home.

ALDURIA WAR REPORT; ALDURIANS VOLUNTEERING TO HELP

Defense Ministry, January13, 5604:   CLAIRON PICARD sources in the Defense Ministry report that Defense Minister Marcel Augereau briefed reporters on the status of our conflict with the terrorist regime that overthrew the elected Socialist Government of Alduria.
 
Much of the La Vallee region of Alduria has fallen to the Alduria Expeditionary Force (AEF) under the command of General Marc-Paul Montague. The AEF  moved westward from Numineux Province into La Vallee and in the north its 1st Corps is holding a position about 80 miles east of  the Capital from the Aldurian northern border to about 80 miles south of the capital. There has been some organized terrorist resistance but they have largely fallen back on defensive positions between the AEF and the capital.

The 2nd AEF Corps has secured the rest of La Vallee and some of the next region and is now holding La Vallee south of the capital having similarly encountered some organized resistance which retreated toward defensive positions.
 
In the liberated area three things are going on. The Provisional Support Corps is supplying food, water shelter, and medical help to those displaced Aldurians in need of them.  Second, the Provisional Support Corps is working with local leaders to restore local government and normal life to the extent possible in the areas no longer threatened by  terrorist rule
 
Third, many Aldurians have come forward wanting to take up arms against their terrorist oppressors.  Although some thought was given to inducting these volunteers into the National Army, instead they are being formed into an Aldurian Military Contingent after receiving rudimentary instruction from the Provisional Support Corps in infantry weapons handling and participation in infantry units.
 
The Aldurian Military Contingent is being armed with small arms, grenade launchers, shoulder mounted rocketry and portable mortars.  A number of the volunteers have been in the Aldurian military. The plan is for the Aldurian Military Contingent to participate in the move against the Capital in conjunction with 1st Corps which is approaching from the east.
 
The other armored division, and some mechanized and motorized divisions are reporting to General Montague who is organizing the AEF to engage the terrorist forces near the Capital as well as move forces westward to liberate more of Alduria.
 
Unmanned aerial vehicles and rotary craft that are divisional assets are reporting that there are lightly manned defensive positions to the north and west of the Capital where they are not currently facing National Army forces while there are heavily defended enemy entrenchments to the east and south of the Capital which face the AEF’s 1st and 2nd Corps.  Further, to their rear are a second line of entrenchments to which they could fall back.

The defenders appear to be largely terrorist militia but we are not certain whether any actual regular military units have joined them or not.  We are assuming there would be some weaponry available to them from military depots such as howitzers and mortars.
 
Admiral Suchet reports that the National Navy forces including aerial assets can prevent a successful incursion bringing outside relief to the terrorists from abroad via the Aldurian coast.

ALDURIA WAR UPDATE

Defense Ministry, June 17, 5605:   CLAIRON PICARD sources in the Defense Ministry report that more divisions have been sent to Alduria as part of the Alduria Expeditionary Force.
 
Among the new ones are three motorized infantry divisions now constituting AEF’s 4th Corps which moved north of the capital where it began engaging light opposition in dug in defensive positions.
 
On the eastern and southern sides of the capital, two wings of multirole fighter bombers began bombing and firing air to ground missiles into the defensive positions of the terrorist militia.  Simultaneously the 1st Corps and 2nd Corps began an artillery bombardment with its self propelled howitzers, mortars and newly added FE Schnellreparaturraketen multiple rocket launcher systems. The defenders did return fire with some howitzers, mortars, machine guns and rocket launchers they had acquired from abroad or military depots.
 
As the battle began, many residents of the capital escaped the city moving either west or northwest the latter with a view to reaching Kanjorean lines and passage to liberated areas.
 
In the north, after exchanging fire briefly with the 4th Corps, the defending terrorist militia withdrew in good order abandoning its defending positions and fell back into the Capital city.
 
To the east and south, the defenders’ heavier weaponry was being silenced and casualties were becoming heavy, and so they began a withdrawal.  1st and 2nd Corps leadership expected they were withdrawing to a second line of prepared defenses, but they did  not and continued on into the Capital itself.  As a result, the pursuit was not as effective as it might have been. Although the howitzers and heavier mortars and some prisoners were taken, quite a few defenders escaped to the Capital with machine guns and some shoulder mounted rocketry and grenade launchers.  It is believed a good deal of the terrorist leadership is now with the defenders in the Capital together with some terrorist units which were going about their usual business of murdering the civilian population rather than engaged in city defense.
 
Which presents a dilemma to the AEF. The Capital could easily be reduced to rubble with bombs, air to ground missiles, FE Schnellreparaturraketen multiple rocket launcher systems fire, self  propelled howitzers and mortars.  But a number of Aldurian citizens who are not terrorists did not escape so this course would be a massacre of innocent victims.
 
Similarly, the Capital could be bypassed and starved by a siege. But the same problem as an all out bombardment is present, innocent Aldurian citizens.
 
It is likely then that a house to house, street by street assault will accordingly be necessary. To date no attempt by the terrorist leadership to contact the AEF to negotiate has occurred.  For the moment, 1st Corps including the Aldurian Military Contingent and 4th Corps are surrounding the Capital and besieging it. 
 
One mechanized division from 1st Corps and from 2nd Corps together with our newly arrived remaining armored division have been formed into 3rd Corps which has joined 2nd Corps and the 5th Corps formed from three newly arrived motorized infantry divisions in a broad front advance into Aldurian territory west of La Vallee. La Vallee is now entirely in our hands except for the besieged Capital City.  Two additional wings of multirole fighter bombers have been assigned to AEF for air cover and ground support for this advance.
 
The expectation is Mordusia will make a coastal landing and the remaining terrorist militia will be sandwiched between Mordusian and Kanjorean forces.

FOREIGN MINISTER DISCUSSES RILDANOR AND CANRILLE UNION
 
Foreign Ministry, October 10, 5605: After a senior staff  meeting on recruiting at entry level, CLAIRON PICARD asked Foreign Minister Paul-Henri Bourmont if Rildanor was leaving the Union of Canraille, and he responded:
 

It has not done so yet though we expect that this will happen.  It seems likely a more isolationist government in Rildanor will take that step.  Obviously, we wish they would not do so, but every nation has to chart its own course.
 
As a practical matter, we are more concerned with whether Rildanor tuns isolationist than whether it is a member of the Union of Canrille.
 
Why, the economic interests of Rildanor are entwined with Communaute de Kanjor and its other neighbors Canrillaise and otherwise in the fields of petroleum exploitation, communications, radar, beryllium, satellites, railroads and defense equipment access.

They can be unentangled but some cooperation will be necessary

FOREIGN MINISTER DISCUSSES ALDURIA FUTURE
 
Foreign Ministry, November 10, 5607:  After a senior staff  meeting on the future of the Union of Canrille, CLAIRON PICARD asked Foreign Minister Paul-Henri Bourmont how the future of Alduria appeared, and Bourmont responded:
 

We should remember the war there is not over yet.  We are assuming we can pretty much exterminate the terrorists.  Nonetheless they are proving tenacious, and the Capital presents a special problem.   Although many residents did escape to liberated territory or Kanjorean lines, there are quite a few Alduriann citizens still in the Capital, not just terrorists.  Heavy handed methods would lead to civilian casualties.
 
But as to your question, Mordusia was attacked by the terrorists and is now invading.  Its ally Luthori has appropriately responded by sending assistance.  We became appalled at accounts of atrocities from refuges that crossed into Kanjor and responded by attacking the terrorists perpetrating these atrocities and by preventing further support from their admired role model reaching them by sea  So to answer your question, the future of Alduria will be determined by Kanjor, Alduria, Mordusia and Luthori.  Four parties, not one or two.
 
For our part, we want to see a sovereign Alduria taking its place as a nation once again.  It is likely Kanjor and the other invaders will need to assure that the terrorists are gone entirely before withdrawing.
 
Should this view prevail, an independent sovereign Alduria might wish to associate with nobody. Or it might wish to join some other international group.  Or it might want to rejoin the Union of Canrille.  That would certainly be our hope, and we believe there are distinct advantages for Alduria should it do so. Nor are the conditions for readmission onerous.
 
But again, four parties not one or two, will be voicing their opinion on the future of Alduria.

ALDURIAN CAPITAL RETAKEN
 
Defense Ministry, February 17, 5609:   The National Army together with the Aldurian Military Contingent and Royal Mordusian Armed Forces had been besieging the Aldurian capital City held by its terrorist regime.
 
Since quite a few of the residents of the Capital did not escape before the terrorists retreated into the city, General Marc-Paul Montague, the General Commanding, Aldurian Expeditionary Force (AEF), recommended that  the Capital be stormed rather than suffer a prolonged siege. His plan was endorsed by the National Army Staff and National Defense Staff and approved  by Defense Minister Marcel Augereau.
 
Accordingly, an infantry division of the AEF’s 4th Corps entered the Capital from the northeast while a division of the Royal Mordusian Amed Forces entered from the northwest and the Aldurian Military Contingent (AMC) came in from the south.  Each of the three columns was supported by a tank battalion from 1st Corps.
 
The defending terrorist forces had managed to retreat from their defenses outside the capital bringing with them quite a few machine guns while having to abandon their artillery under heavy bombardment.  They also were able to salvage some shoulder mounted  rocket and grenade launchers and a few portable mortars.
 
The approach was somewhat cautious since it was unknown if the terrorists had any flamethrowers or shoulder mounted anti drone weaponry (such as that long in use by Kanjorean infantry) or had learned how to rig heavy duty explosives in buildings to blow up when entered.  As it turned out it was no to all three with the primary terrorist skill set being aptitude for murdering civilians and their doctrine of willingness to die to the last man.
 
The terrorists did have a lot of machine guns which turned out to be their primary defense.  In the outer areas there were a lot of individual enemy shooting from windows, and some dug in or barricaded positions particularly in streets flanked by sizeable buildings.  The AMC also encountered one community gymnasium complex that was rather heavily defended.
 
Further in as residential areas gave way to urban barricaded streets and somewhat fortified buildings  both of which were heavily defended were numerous while at the center of the city entrenchments were present in a park area almost constituting a fort.
 
Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV’s) and helicopters that were divisional assets preceded the advance. Once fire from windows was detected it was silenced by machine gun and rocket fire from the helicopters. Tear gas canisters launched by the advancing troops and helicopters cleared a number of buildings where terrorists were located. Terrorists fleeing the building rarely surrendered but were shot fleeing or trying to fire.  Further many Aldurian civilians escaped to Allied lines once beyond terrorist reach.
 
The enemy defending barricades in the street was a somewhat different story.  After challenging the advance with machine gun fire, their firepower was simply overwhelmed by numerically superior machine gun fire, explosive projectiles from tanks and air to surface rockets from rotary craft followed by storming the position by advancing infantry often from multiple directions.  Which led to a number of enemy captured as they either tried to stand fast or pull back but could do neither.
 
At to the gymnasium complex bristling with machine guns,  AMC silenced the fire on one facing with machine guns and grenade launchers supported by rocket fire from rotary craft and stormed the building using a lot of hand grenades to open the way. Once in, the AMC took the building room by room which did tend to let the terrorist display their aptitude for dying to the last man.
 
As Allied Forces moved into the urbanized center it was pretty much the same story with street barricades but with less opportunity to storm from more  than one direction so fewer prisoners were taken.
 
As to the defended buildings, some were sufficiently isolated that rocket fire from helicopters and tank fire and superior machine gun fire made storming manageable, but a number in much better tactical positions so once identified by reconnaissance UAV’s, the AEF called in elements  of the National Air Forces’ multirole fighter bomber wing of Fantome 2000 – 5F’s to reduce them to rubble so survivors could be shot down unless they surrendered which of course almost none did.
 
The final fortifications in a  park in the city center featured a a lot of machine guns. The helicopters and tank battalions together with superiority in machine gun fire from the infantry began to steadily weaken the fortifications and reduce enemy fire.
 
The Royal Mordusians had brought with them a sizeable number of portable mortars with which they seriously discomfited the front line enemy in their sector which suddenly tried to relocate to more interior position.  Seeing an opportunity the Royal Mordusians surged forward whereupon hand to hand combat ensued with the enemy being pushed back upon other sectors some of which found themselves in an untenable position and tried to escape.
 
Quite a few of the terrorists were able to die  facing the fire of infantry of 4th Corps or the AMC or fighting the Royal Mordusians but a number of others died or were captured trying to escape as  their final defensive position collapsed.
 
The Capital City of Alduria had been liberated.

ALLIES MOVE WEST IN ALDURIA

Defense Ministry, October 17, 5609:   Today the Defense Mnistry issued the following statement:
 

With Saint – Michel – Vigile now free of the terrorist regime, Aldurian Expeditionary Force’s (AEF) Commanding General Marc-Paul Montague has transferred two divisions of the 4th Corps to Provisional Support Corps and 4th Corps's remaining motorized infantry division to 5th Corps.
 
Saint – Michel – Vigile along with the rest of La Vallee Region is the responsibility of Provisional Support Corps which is handling security, humanitarian relief for terrorist refuges, assistance in rebuilding efforts, refuge relocation and reestablishing civilian Alodurian government in that region.  Additionally, a wing of Rafale F4.1 multirole fighter bombers are being held in reserve in La Vallee for use as needed.
 
Rebuilding Saint – Michel – Vigile itself will require dealing with quite a bit of damage from the battle to take it, but far less than would be the case had it been bombed into submission or reduced to rubble.  In fact it is believed to be a manageable task.
 
It is expected that Royal Mordusian and Holy Luthorian troops will join Provisional Support Corps in holding Saint – Michel – Vigile. It is hoped the civilian authority being reestablished will form a cadre for a viable future independent Aldurian government.
 
AEF has ordered 1st Corps to join 2nd Corps, 3rd Corps and 5th Corps in a broad advance into the southern more Region adjacent to La Vallee Region with air superiority provided by three wings of multirole fighter bombers.  Reconnaissance by rotary craft and unmanned aerial vehicles which are divisional assets has revealed little opposition to date, and the advance is accordingly proceeding apace.  There have been instances of groups of terrorists trying to stand and fight and predictably dying to the last man.
 
To the north of this AEF operation, Royal Mordusian and Holy Luthorian Armed Forces are advancing into the northern more region adjacent to La Vallee Region. They like the AEF are to date not encountering serious efforts to defend territory but rather what seems to be suicide squads.

ALDURIA OCCUPATION ASSISTANCE
 

Finance Ministry, August 16, 5612:  With the last remnants of the terrorist regime defenders being

mopped up in isolated locations, Holy Luthorian, Royal Mordusian and Communaute de Kanjor

armed forces are occupying the liberated territory. The Capital, Saint – Michel – Vigile, is occupied

by all three while for part, the Provisional Support Corps is providing security and administering of

La Vallee Region and the Region to the south and west of it.

 

The rest of the Alduria Expeditionary Force has been with withdrawn.  Similarly, Inperial Command

Headquarters has withdrawn 2nd Fleet, 4th Fleet, 5th Fleet and Imperial Submarine Command from

holding the Aldurian coast. The Chief of Naval Operations has instead ordered patrolling of the

Aldurian and western Kanjorean coasts by the 55th Naval Air Wing, the frigates of Task Force 13 and

the submarines of Task Force 22.

 

Part of the mission of the Provisional Support Corps is to try and restore normal  functioning of

government and normal life.  To this end the Defense Ministry has asked the Finance Ministry to

undertake modernization of the budget process for La Vallee and the Aldurian Central Bank in Saint

– Michel – Vigile and to provide for banking access on at least a temporary basis.

 

Finance Minister Fabrice Courbet announced that a task force from the Finance Ministry was

established which started with digitalizing the accounts in the Aldurian Central Bank and then set up

Central Bank accounts for the various parts of the La Vallee budget with Central Bank.  Courbet

indicated while a few banks had sprung up here and there, there was a real need for citizens to have

personal  accounts for paying bills.  Accordingly, until a viable central government took hold, there

would be a La Vallee Private Account Division of Central Bank for individuals and businesses to set

up bank accounts.  This should allow restaurants, employers, grocery stores and such to have small

banking service centers to enable customers to shift digitalized funds in and out of cash.

 

Asked by CLAIRON PICARD about the sale of frigates, destroyers and a SIGINT ship to Egelion, Courbet responded:
 

We are very glad the naval contractors of Canrille are able to help our friend Egelion build its Great Armada.  This benefits the economy of Canrille and thus is very mutually beneficial.

 
Asked about whether we are likely to be involved in other wars festering around Terra, the Finance Minister replied:
 

We are just wrapping up a war in which we mobilized and deployed a submarine task force, three fleets, 5 air wings and 17 divisions.  This is in addition to humanitarian aid which was substantial.  Casualties were light except for our taking of the Capital, but this undertaking was quite expensive and will take a while to absorb economically. So we are not looking around for a place to send military force.
 
Which is not to say we will not be discussing in the Union of Canrille whether contributing to efforts to curtail aggression and state imposed atrocities in Terra would be the thing to do.  We will and we may.

THIRD IMPERIAL FLEET RETURNED TO ALDURIA

Defense Ministry, March 17, 5613:   Today the Defense Ministry issued the following statement:
 

Today Admiral Antoine Suchet, Admiral Commanding, Imperial Command, has ordered that 3rd Imperial Fleet be transferred to the Aldurian naval command now that Alduria has rejoined the Union of Canrille.
 
3rd Imperial Fleet was transferred to Imperial Command as the legitimate government fell to terrorist control fighting its way out doing considerable damage to the enemy and taking heavy casualties and sustaining significant damage.
 
3rd Imperial Fleet since then has been resting, refitting , recruiting and repairing damage at the Kanjorean naval base in the Port of Picard. It, now fully restored, is ready to return to duty as it rejoins the Aldurian Navy.
