Likatonia's president today announced her plans to improve the health of Likatonian's and to make Likatonia the healthiest nation in seleya.
Quote:Of course we're not just satisfied at being the only free nation left in seleya, we also want to be the healthiest nation in seleya we have a plan to do this. We're going to be banning harmful additives and preservatives in our foods. I'm also going to be calling on Rocc-Cola to clean up their act and reformulate their products or risk being taken off the shelves completely. We're going to be transforming our food system, banning junk food ads after 8pm and encouraging consumers to maker better informed choices over the foods they eat. The time for change is now we have a plan for change, the opposition does not.
We also have heard the news that the independent truth commission has found mountains of evidence of war crimes committed against innocent Likatonian civilians. We are happy this independent commission has been set up because it is importatnt to get to the truth, the truth really matters. This only confirms what we have suspected for a very long time, finally after all these years Likatonian's can see justice and accountability has arrived. We also believe that senior members of the Kalistani political and military leadership should be held to account over these crimes because it is inconceivable that they did not know. This will be a step in the right direction towards a lasting peace between our nations. Which we hope can be achieved.
Explaining Likatonia's abcense from Altea the president explained "This is a club of very undesirable nations gathered in a room, Clovisport sends Egelion our best regards but we will pass on attending Altea. Thank you all." President Kinsley Koch announced her reforms to make Likatonia a more healthy nation, including asking rocc-cola to reformulate it's products. The democrats are delivering the results for Likatonian's, the republicans are still in disarray they have no plan. Speaking to the chronicle earlier today health minister Edwin O'brien said that these policies taken together will reduce the strain on our healthcare system and will reduce healthcare costs. Also speaking as to when new election may take place the president said she hopes they can be organised very soon.

Likatonian envoy Oscar Woods is travelling to Kaliburg as we speak after receiving an invitation from the kalistani emperor this marks the first time in over 60 years that Likatonian diplomats have met with Kalistan. They will be discussing a peace settlement and how a lasting peace can be achieved in Likatonia. Speaking outside frontier house, Oscar told the chronicle that we are going to work together to right the wrongs of the past.
Quote:It is no secret that Kalistani-Likatonian relations have been in a really bad place over the last 60 years, it has been a very turbulent era. We are going to have a frank and open discussion with our Kalistani counterparts about how we can settle and how we can work together to right the wrongs of the past, we are ready to right this ship. Yes, we are confident things are already starting to move in the right direction, the people of Norwalk can finally see a sense of justice with dozens of Kalistanis prosecuted for their conduct in the Likatonian war including Martin Guerra himself. We are very much looking forward to our meeting in Kaliburg.

CLOVISPORT - 11 AUGUST 5657 - After years of political instability, lingering fears of doom and despair, Likatonia finally has a new government. Led by the charismatic Ayanna Fitzgerald, a political alliance known as the National Restoration Coalition has successfully achieved the 251 seats necessary for a majority in the House of Representatives. On top of the electoral victory in the legislature, Fitzgerald has achieved the votes to become president of the republic. Fitzgerald, having essentially no major opposition, ran a campaign focused on restoring Likatonia to an organized and effective federalist government--away from the reach of Artanian ideologies. Fitzgerald promised the people of Likatonia that it would no longer be seen as the "laughing stock of the world" and would take several steps to avoid the inane militaristic governance that it heavily relied on decades ago. Fitzgerald received support from over 60% of the Likatonian population, who for years has struggled in all aspects of society. Streets are crumbling, homes are in need of repair, social welfare is completely lacking, and the identity of the nation is tattered. "We want to create a future that we are proud of and use our past to learn from the decaying ideology that stems from Artania", said Fitzgerald at her campaign victory speech.
Fitzgerald, while a strong social liberal at heart, displayed moments of extreme nationalism, not for aggressive or militant reasons, but for a greater national restoration of the Likatonian homeland. Fitzgerald and her supporters are ready to begin work to address the multiple problems facing Likatonia. Beyond the need for federal redistricting and organization, the need for social services, a confident banking sector, and a positive education system are all major needs for Likatonia. "What we have to address in the first 100 days is difficult, but not impossible to achieve", said Fitzgerald. "We live in a new era where we must be ready to look after ourselves and ensure that we have the means to produce a new future." The Federalist Party, the more moderate member of the coalition, has expressed its concerns over going too socialist in the response to fix Likatonia, however, most members of the party agree that drastic measures are needed in the next few weeks to assure the government's response to a crumbling nation is appropriate. "We are prepared to do what is needed, quickly and efficiently. We will make sure we rise from mediocrity to something of value."
Fitzgerald expects the first 100 days of her presidency to be spent on budget conversations and ideas on how to reframe the social welfare net. Previous government have failed to consider how different regions require different needs and how federal funding will be important to ensure full coverage. Experts believe that there may be temporary gaps in welfare and funding to some regions, they will be temporary setbacks to a greater build-up plan by the Fitzgerald administration.

After her stunning electoral victory, President Fitzgerald has begun what many are calling a "generational reform package" that is set to transform Likatonia into a modern, independent nation. Many parts of the nation are still dealing with the effects of war. Citizens have limited access to food, jobs, and education. With mounting pressure on Fitzgerald to reform the state, she called on members of the cabinet this morning to discuss what she is calling the "Holistic Outreach for Prosperity and Equity (HOPE) Bill". President Fitzgerald stated that the plan encompasses several aspects of sociopolitical re-engineering and mixed-market economics to create a new future for all Likatonians. The plan, in its infancy, calls for the reorganization of Likatonia's states. Instead of five overly inflated centralized states, the bill would create thirty new decentralized "regions", each with its own local government and local services. The thirty new states would be a part of Likatonia's future electoral system, a first-past-the-post electoral system. Once federalization is underway, Congress would then fund all thirty regions based on their needs. Funding would be focused on building homes, funding public services, ensuring educational curriculums are updated, and establishing a proper social safety net for all Likatonians.
Fitzgerald's HOPE Bill would ensure that there is a major response to Likatonian needs everywhere, not just those located in a large metro areas and cities. Several farmers and those in the logging industries have felt the impacts of an inactive government and the post-effects of an idiotic war. Fitzgerald's plan aims to reach out to those in rural areas just as much as those in cities. Urban areas are not in a prosperous spot either despite its saturation in the Likatonian economy. The Minister of Commerce, Dr. Davis Pryor, came to the cabinet meeting with a report stating that most businesses in Likatonia are suffering, with only 54% of all businesses reporting a "stable" situation. Pryor stated that most businesses would need a large helping hand and a stimulated consumerist base to begin to see positive gains. Fitzgerald's team has eyed the use of a stimulus package in the HOPE bill to help the private sector take off as Congress works on creating a solid base for welfare in the nation. Economists have abandoned all speculation of the HOPE Bill and have assumed that the bill, even in its lowest capacity, will help uplift the desperate Likatonian economy, which has not seen any activity for decades.
Fitzgerald and her cabinet are hoping that the federalization of Likatonia and the creation of new state institutions to kickstart the welfare state will be a good starting point for the renovation of the country. While there are several other needs such as dated infrastructure and an isolationist foreign policy, Fitzgerald believes that the HOPE bill is just the first in many other legislative proposals that she plans to address in her first administration. "Our plan is to reach as many people as possible and organize this country into something we can all be proud of. Our interests are no longer in Artania or supporting petty, fart-right dictatorships. We are focused on a new future where all Likatonian's deserve a safe, healthy place to live while also aspiring to be members of a great society."

As the House of Representatives and the Senate begin debates on the core aspects of Fitzgerald's HOPE bill, The Federalist Party has pledged not to sideline themselves and let Fitzgerald take all of the legislative glory. In last year's federal elections, out of the 287 seats won by the National Restoration Coalition, the Federalist Party won 138 seats, leaving the Restoration Caucus with 149 seats. Despite this minor setback for the federalists, they hold the true cards in the passage of the HOPE bill that Fitzgerald has obviously assumed as her own. The Senator from the State of Madison, James Sincalir, spoke on msr this morning about the goals of the Federalist Party and how they plan to negotiate with Fitzgerald and the Restoration Caucus.
Sinclair, now a Senator for over 24 years, has represented the state of Madison since his election in 5634. In his tenure as senator, he has seen the decay of Likatonia through his constituents and agrees that the federal government must do more to help those individuals and families in need. Sinclair describes himself as "traditionally conservative", but states that his views have become more moderate as the country faces extreme poverty and disorganization. When speaking to Sinclair, he stated that his own up brining was a large motivator in realizing all of the current faults in Likatonia's current political system.
Quote:I believe in a conservative Likatonia, one that is not afraid to stand up for itself, one that is self-sufficient, and one that is proud of existing. Today, we don't see any of that. We are an impoverished, fragmented nation that is still dealing with the effects of an idiotic war. We are a nation full of people with no dignity or respect for any of our institutions. It must change--and I do believe we are in a spot to get there. Federalists like myself will work with the Restoration Caucus to ensure that we bring a strong federal government back as well as a deep sense of national pride. In this, I agree. We've got to at least have a step in the right direction. After that, we will gladly look at more conservative economic ideas.
Senator Sinclair states that white the Federalists and the Restoration Causes have similar foundational ideas, the Federalists believe in more small government, more investments into the nation's farmlands, and a focus on major national industries. Fitzgerald and the Restoration Caucus are promoting more liberal ideas such as an inflated social welfare net and direct stimulus packages for individuals. Sinclair says that he envisions more conversative approaches such as lower taxes and improvements in private sector regulations. The Federalists for now have agreed to follow Fitzgerald's coalition plans for a strong federal approach to reforms, but may falter when deciding economic reforms to kickstart the economy. It may seem that promoting small businesses is an area of compromise between the coalition parties, but there may be infighting when concerning bigger businesses and their role in the Likatonian economy. Next week, Senator Sinclair as leader of the Federalists, will meet with President Sinclair to discuss the major economic aspects of the HOPE Bill. Analysts in Clovisport predict that the Federalists will agree to pass many of the regionalist reforms that Fitzgerald has planned, but may bring up alternatives when considering economic reforms. Bolton Hall (building where the president works and lives) has declared that President Fitzgerald is "eager" to work with Federalists to ensure the first major agenda bill is passed.

The Island of Pirland, home to a diverse and unique population, has been at the forefront of Likatonian politics for the past century. The island is home to several groups of people such as Gaduris, Egelians, Luthorians, and Valruzians. In the past decade, the island has sought to distance itself from the political commotion from Clovisport. Pirland's population and divisive politics has made it a "battleground" in federal elections. The island state is a rich basket of votes for both the Federalists and the Restorationists every four years. Yet, the people of the island are just about done with the attention it seeks from Clovisport every election cycle. State leaders and local officials have applauded Clovisport's attempt at a deep federalization process, meaning that Pirland will soon have more autonomy over what happens in the state.
But just what happens in the state? Pirland has three main cities: Tampico Bay, Solari, and Orland Hills with the latter hosting the state capitol. Solari, by far the most populated and popular of Pirland's cities, lies on the western edge of Pirland bordering the South Ocean. Solari is dominated by Gaduri, Pensio, and Baltusian cultures. The city is home to millions of immigrants who have made their way towards Seleya from the far reaches of Artania and Majatra. Its culture is focused on a high-style sexy nightlife and tropical vibes thanks to the proximity of warm winds coming from the ocean. Solari is often called 'The City of Vice', due to the continuous and often unsubtle criminal activity in the city. However, crime has become a part of life in Solari. Thanks to a weak local government and a lacking surrounding economy, Solari has seen an increase in crime for five years straight, yet the people of the area seem blissfully ignorant of the underground happenings of their own city.
Some say that the city, despite its faults and crime ridden stats, is actually just a haven for people to do what they like. Whether it is engaging in grand theft auto or enjoying a late night dance at a rooftop bar, the possibilities are endless. Solari officials of course are not confirmed to this "lawless lifestyle" that they perceive to exist in the city. Officials have claimed that yes Solari should be a place for everyone to be happy and enjoy the wonders of life, but the city shouldn't become lawless. Efforts are already underway to reform night-life regulations and improve surveillance in the city. Clovisport has even touted increasing funds to the city, with strings attached of course. Regardless of the political situation in the city, residents still enjoy the beauty the city has to offer. Tall palm trees line the streets, neon lights on buildings illuminate the sidewalks, and the sound of waves crashing against the shore fill the marina, where the nation's millionaires party on expensive yachts and drink their lives away. Solari is already one of the most important cities in Likatonia, generating billions of dollars each year from Clovisport. In spite of it all, the island is pursuing a new path away from politics and inches closer to embracing a culture of relaxation, nightlife, and most importantly, political apathy.

In a massive legislative victory for Likatonia, President Fitzgerald has finally signed the long awaited HOPE Bill at Bolton Hall this afternoon. After months and months of negotiations, several amendments, and campaigning, the current congressional coalition reached an agreement to pass the bill despite some of it's critical hoping for is failure. President Fitzgerald signed the bill into law at Bolton Hall, the seat of executive power in Likatonia. She was joined by the leader of the Federalist Party, Senator John Sinclair. The Senator negotiated with President Fitzgerald and her cabinet for months over the specific details of the bill, hoping to add political capital for the Federalists. According to the final report of the bill, the Federalists managed to loosen several economic regulations for big businesses and for private corporations in the countryside who have struggled to create positive ventures for Likatonian entrepreneurs. This rather center-right approach to economics was met with resistance my Fitzgerald's party. Yet, to even the deal, the Restoration Caucus in return made all two-year and four-year colleges and universities free for all students in the nation. Many within the Federalist Party were opposed to the idea, stating that the state shouldn't be overspending. However, their opposition was quickly shut down by Secretary of Labor, Henry Claybourne, who's strong arm negotiations tactics made the Federalists rethink their own terms.
The HOPE Bill brings several new record to an economically desperate Likatonia. Among the details of the bill, there are several mandates for the creation of a new government welfare system that includes: community housing, unemployment assistance, healthcare assistance, temporary government jobs, and childcare. This large investment, to what is essentially a non-existent entity, will give peace of mind to millions of Likatonians, but also address the several needs of the nation. The HOPE Bill also addressed the bed for local government and new administration. Federalist proposals were added to the bill creating a new county system for the nation followed by governance through the five Likatonian states. Each state will include it's own three-branch government for efficient governance. Fitzgerald's administration agreed with the Federalists that this nice would help lessen the backlog in Clovisport and put more power into the people's hands. Fitzgerald, at the signing event at Bolton Hall stated:
Quote:This is only the beginning of our work. We have so much to address and do much to do. We are beginning to see a sense of existence and hope on this nation--such is the name of this most important bill. In the next several years, we will begin to engage in banking reform, improving communities, and expanding our infrastructure. Here with Senator Sinclair, I am pleased to announce that Likatonia is in the midst of, what my administration is pleased to call, The Great Reform.

Poised, determined, and confident. These are three words that would describe the current government of Likatonia. Led by the fierce and eloquent Ayanna Fitzgerald, it seems that Likatonia finally has a government that instills hope, confidence, and a sense of nationalism. Beyond the election held years ago, it is now ever so relevant to know the people who will help Fitzgerald transform Likatonia into a modern, friendly nation. Despite all that was negotiated before the election season, there are no conservative members in Fitzgerald's Cabinet. Every position is currently occupied by a wide array of liberals, socialists, and moderates hoping to create a steady vision of Likaotnia.
Fitzgerald's administration is led by the Secretary of General Affairs, Violet Davidson (standing to the left of Fitzgerald). Davison's background comes from humble beginnings. Having served as a professor of law at the University of St.Jackson, she went on to serve as Mayor of Arcadia. Eager to lead the cabinet, she recommended the confirmation of Barry Jones and Leticia Montgomery as Secretaries of State and the National Attorney respectively (Jones sits on the chair to the left of Fitzgerald, Montgomery stands on the far left in green). Both Jones and Montgomery have experience in their own fields. Jones, having served as Ambassador to Luthori, will now represent Likatonia on the world stage. A devoted member of the Restoration Caucus, Jones advocates for "deep restorative politics", just as Fitzgerald did, to heal Likatonia's old socioeconomic woes.
Fitzgerald's economic arm lies in Secretary of the National Bank, Ernest Thierry (to the left of Fitzgerald) and Secretary of Trade and Commerce, Jorge Acosta (far right of Fitzgerald). Thierry is a leader of an independent group known as BrightBar, funded by the Likatonian government. This group operates as a think tank focusing on revealing the most impoverished regions of Likatonia and how the government can act justly to reform communities. Thierry also has educational experience, leading the National Bank's interest rate research division. Jorge Acosta, Trade and Commerce Secretary, was the governor of the State of Pirland. He grew up in a Gaduri household, having moved from the eastern nation when he was only 3. Acosta's focus remains on the sustainability of small businesses and their relation to steady market flows. He understands the importance of the blue economy in Likatonia and knows how small business, especially in Pirland, use the ocean and trade routes to expand consumerism. Together, Thierry and Acosta bring experiences, work and personal, to ensure Likatonia's growth is not only sustainable, but just for all citizens.
The Secretary of National Security is led by Jeberandy Vernon from the Vernon political dynasty (standing next to Fitzgerald to the right). Vernon has not only served for the Likatonian armed forces, but is already employed by the government. Vernon has worked in Clovisport finding out ways of how to make Likatonia's armed forces more effective, but to serve as a pure defensive force. Son of ex-president George Vernon, Jeberandy vows to keep his family's legacy steady and secure with decision-making that matches his legacy. Finally, the Secretary of Welfare and Human Development was taken up by Dr. Cristina Delgado (sitting on the chair to the right). Dr.Delago, an ex-university professor and corporate lawyer, rose in the ranks as a notable and respected individual of both the education and medical communities. Her constant years of research, documentaries, and books have labeled her an "overqualified choice" for any position in the Likatonian government. Having started her teaching career at Madison State University, she hopes to solve the state's--and the nation's issues regarding education and healthcare services.
Fitzgerald's administration has assumed power at a crucial stage in Likatonia's future. After an idiotic war and international isolation, Fitzgerald has vowed to change Likatonia into a respectable nation worthy to call itself Seleyan. Beyond the crucial moment in the nation's history, Fitzgerald pledges not to lose her leftist ideals which saw her rise to victory. she plans to continue passing more legislation to directly help the poor while also giving some ample room for a liberal economy. Led by a strong cabinet full of professionals, doctors, and experts, the future is bright for Likatonia and its hope to restore itself into modernity.
