Player's History of Particracy Classic

Hi all,

As I've been on hiatus from Particracy for roughly six months, I was late to the news that Wouter regrettably decided to permanently shut down the original Particracy Classic game and forum sites. As someone who has been part of this community for nearly a decade, I've found myself feeling rather nostalgic for the times shared with so many over such a long period of time, as well as sadness that many of these memories will fade with time, particularly given the loss of the forum (and the collective contributions of countless players over the years). 

As is painfully obvious, the loss of the forum also means the loss of countless posts, roleplays, debates, and moments that shaped our shared history. However, while the original server may be gone, our stories and memories remain. To help preserve that collective memory, I’d like to propose A Player’s History of Particracy Classic, a community-led effort to document the out-of-character history of the game and the players (past and present) who made it what it was.

This isn’t meant to be formal or comprehensive (though such an approach is not discouraged), but simply a space for players to share their personal stories: how you discovered the game, what you loved about it, what you learned from it, and what it meant to you to be part of the community (if anything lol). As I hope these are personal reflections on the game and your time in it, I don't wish to dictate a specific format; you can write as little or as much as you like — a short reflection, a timeline, an essay, etc. Nevertheless, to help get ideas flowing, here are some prompts you might consider:

1. How and when did you discover Particracy? How old were you and where were you in life around that time (to the extent you are comfortable sharing)? 
   
2. What country did you first play in? What was your earliest experience with the forum? What were your first impressions, generally?
   
3. What was your most memorable RP experience or arc? Did you help shape any regions, lore, or political systems that you’re proud of?
   
4. What do you think your biggest impact/legacy has been on the game and the community (if any)?
   
5. Who were some of the players or moderators who had the biggest impact on you? What were your most memorable interactions, collaborations, or rivalries?
   
6. How did the community culture evolve during your time within it?
   
7. How did Particracy influence your interests, writing, or worldview?
   
8. How do you feel about the end of Particracy Classic — and what do you hope remains remembered?
   

I hope that you will consider contributing to this project, so that we might be able to preserve, in our own words, the ephemeral history of our time together. Platforms vanish, taking with them years of human creativity and connection, but the continuation of this project in the form of Particracy Legacy suggests to me, at least, that the connections we've shared persist beyond digital impermanence.
