“Dark Horse” Brown elected as Tory leader – appointed as Leader in the Imperial Diet as Huffington is confirmed as PM in agreement.

At the surprise of many – it was not the more established candidates, those with a high support base within the Conservative Party that ultimately secured the necessary votes to become leader – no, instead it was little-known Conservative MP for Clamfeld East that ultimately secured the confidence of his peers to become Leader of the Conservative Party. 

Mr. Brown, 64, was originally set to become Luthori’s Prime Minister, replacing the Lord Huffington, appointed in this position by Emperor William XI on an interim basis. But, according to the Evening Post, current Prime Minister Huffington shall remain in office while Mr. Brown takes up the leadership of the Imperial Diet. Lord Huffington, while remaining as Prime Minister also became the Leader of the House of Peers in his interim basis – with reports stating that the Prime Minister might cede the office to former Foreign Secretary Lord Stanley – who resigned from the third Seddon ministry before its ultimate collapse. 

The reason why Mr. Brown was able to defeat more established and popular candidates such as Mr. May or Mr. Simon was because of his lack of ties to the outgoing Conservative administration – which disappointed a lot of Tory MPs in both Houses of Parliament and his lack of ties with far-right organisations which damaged Mr. Simon’s course for the Conservative leadership. 

With Mitchell Brown as Leader of the Conservative Party, it seems that the Tories are drifting further away from Seddon’s style of leadership – distant, pragmatic but also damaging the party’s core ideals and support, which cost him dearly in the last election cycle, towards a more “unapologetic form” of conservatism in governance – while him and Prime Minister Huffington loyalties lies to different factions – with Brown being close with Lord Ashen’s Conservative Public Debate Group in the House of Peers and Huffington de facto leading the “Constitutionalist Conservative Group” in the House of Peers – both men agreed on the “necessity” of “restore credibility to the party” as incoming poll numbers suggests that the Tories will be defeated by Labour – if the election was held today. 

Prime Minister Huffington addressed his remarks related to the Tory leadership contest – saying that his agreement with Mr. Brown was “unprecedented” and “a testament to the strength of our parliamentary democracy” - Lord Huffington will become the first unelected Prime Minister, sitting in the House of Peers in over a century – a move which sparked outrage from the left, which immediately called for his resignation and the appointment of a Prime Minister from the Diet. 

“It is unbearable to see, in the 58th century, the Tories still holding on to these kinds of political manoeuvres to keep power in the hands of a very few. We’ll obviously ask the House to immediately remove its confidence to this shameful and illegitimate government.” said Left Party Diet Leader, Sophia Wendell to NLB News today. 

“Luthori’s Tories fall deeper into total anarchy as unelected Lord becomes illegitimate Prime Minister, the slow death of Luthorian democracy?” - said the Guardian in its latest article. 

It is nonetheless likely that the new Prime Minister shall survive this test in the Imperial Diet - as the Hosian People's Party expressed "willingness" to "engage in trustworthy and honest negotiations" with the new Conservative-led administration, maybe signifying a new coalition agreement in the making?

Lord Huffington met with Emperor William XI who confirmed his status as his Prime Minister, cementing the agreement between him and Mr. Brown as a fact of life – and the Palace confirmed the Emperor's "full confidence upon his Prime Minister to navigate the troubled waters of parliamentary governance" and expressed confidence at "institutions backed by norms and values for the last three millenia to continue to engage themselves in an open and thoughful political debates" .
