It’s safe to state that the Luthori-Dovani Reconciliation Fund, speerheaded by then-Foreign Secretary Schnee (now Prime Minister) has been an abject and total failure. The Holian-Keaty government’s aim was to create a program of economic collaboration between Luthori and former colonial possessions in the Eastern Dovani Seaboard (Dovani, Temania and Vascania). Unfortunately, after a few years and negotiations stalled over its enactment with Dovani states – the Luthorian government ultimately “pulled the plug” out of the program, announcing its dismantlement by the end of the year.

Criticised as a “waste of money” by numerous opposition and right-wing critics and fiercely criticised by some Pan-Dovanianists as an expansion of “western influence” upon the continent – the Holian-Keaty gov’t nonetheless stressed the “goodwill” nature of the initiative. They mostly focused on showing the good that would have come from a collaboration between Luthorian and Dovanian economic actors – pointing out at the successful collaboration between these same actors in the past. Unfortunately for the former and current prime ministers, it seems that it didn’t convince anyone to join in, as the prime minister was forced to concede that the “program was already dead weight” as he entered office in 5715.

The Leader of the Opposition and the Tory Party made it a focal point in their electoral campaign. Jay Parkford, Conservative leader promised to “get rid of unnecessary wasteful spending” in government finances. His point was specifically targeted at the Luthori-Dovani Reconciliation Fund, which he saw as a “total embarrassment” for a state such as Luthori. During his campaign speeches, he specifically targeted what he saw as the “Dovani victim mentality” and the government’s weakness in countering it.

“Why should we pay for the crimes made by people not remotely associated with the Imperial Government and give money to regimes that clearly have a victim mentality in squeezing in the last drop of Western capital because they are salty. Especially as massacres and crimes have been done by Dovanian states among each other. Do I see them asking reparations? There's a saying that goes: Something is bad in Dovani? Blame the West. [...] They use this excuse as a cover-up for the more staggering failures,” he told the crowd during an energetic crowd during a campaign speech in Alchester, where the Tories drew over 20.000 people in one of the largest declarations of the campaign.

Foreign Secretary Oliver Heart today confirmed that the program was getting terminated on December 31st – finally expressing his “deepest regrets” over the ultimate failure of the initiative. The Prime Minister’s Office released a small statement reflecting on the failure of the initiative, with the Prime Minister regretting that “[...] pride and short-sighted visions have prevailed over common sense, collaboration and the construction of a better future for all.”

This strong language has been noticed as being maybe, a sign for a change in government opinion over diplomacy with former colonial states, as a growing academic and popular movement in opposition to further apologies and actions being addressed towards post-colonial states has been noticed on both the right and the left. One activist said that they didn’t wish to “hinder potential partnerships between East and West” but aimed to “destroy this “imperialism” mindset within Dovani first.”

“We can’t properly engage in relations when we know that we’ll back up, they’ll just stand on their own land if needed. They can’t continue to be quitters and surrendering that easily. It’s been two millenniums. Get over it people!” said Jason Pok in an online forum, revealing a growing distaste for the government’s policy towards its former colonial possessions.

Artanian-Dovanian relations have always been weird – but among Conservative politicians notably, specifically with Leader of the Opposition Jay Parkford, it seems that the problem lies with both the Labour government’s unwillingness to pursue another way than kowtowing to Dovani at every single occasion and Dovani’s “victim mentality” - a signal for a more radical and more uncompromising position in Fort William?
