Baatrynsentii - The dust has just settled in Metz-Leonid, and already the corridors of the Government quarter of Baatrynsentii are crowded with foreign ministry cars. Prime Minister Gal Asugbal, flanked yesterday morning by President Bor Khasar, formally called for an extraordinary Special Joint Session of the Dovani Union, bringing together member governments alongside the Union's institutional bodies, to address what the Premier termed, with characteristic understatement, "a moment of consequence for our common house."

The trigger is no secret. The flight of former Premier Dramuktsang from Xsampa last month, the reopening of PAX under interim Premier Dharma Nepali, and the radical platform shift of the Communist Party of Xsampa toward its new "Mass Democracy" doctrine have collectively shaken assumptions that the Custodian Crisis would conclude as a contained, internal Xsampan affair. It has not. Across the Caltropic Lakes, ministries from Ostland to Bianjie are quietly recalculating. New Verham, officially neutral throughout the standoff, now finds the bill for that neutrality landing on its desk. 

President Khasar's address to the Supreme Congress framed the appeal in the language of continuity. "The Dovani Union was not built for fair weather only," he told members, citing the Union's foundational compacts. The Prime Minister was more pointed in remarks to Yamaa and other outlets afterward, noting that the CPX's compromise position on Union membership, a deliberate refusal to either endorse or reject the DU, has, in his words, "left the door open, but also left it swinging." Whether February's elections in Xsampa produce a CPX-led government or a continuation of Democratic Opposition rule, Baatrynsentii appears determined that the Union's institutional architecture not be the variable.

Sources within the Foreign Ministry, who spoke on condition of anonymity, indicated that the proposed Joint Session would seek three outcomes: a reaffirmation of Union solidarity provisions, a review of crisis-response mechanisms exposed as inadequate during the Xsampan standoff, and quiet bilateral assurances from member states that no party will exploit the transitional period for unilateral advantage. The third item, by all accounts, is the one that animates the cabinet most. Critics at home have not been silent. The opposition ADK has questioned why a government that maintained "studious distance" from events in Metz-Leonid now considers itself the natural convener of Union response. Asugbal has waved off the criticism. "Neutrality during a crisis," he told reporters at Baatrynsentii International before departing for preliminary talks, "is not the same as indifference after one."
Whether the Union's other capitals share Baatrynsentii's sense of urgency remains to be seen. Invitations have gone out. Replies, as ever in Dovani, will arrive at their own pace.
