Foreign Department 'confident' that agreement with Valruzia be reached before election cycle.

The Foreign Department has expressed the hope that an agreement be reached with the Valruzian government, preferably “before the election cycle” an anonymous source within the Foreign Department stated.

With Parkford’s government in turmoil, amid a heavy defeat in the House of Peers at the hands of heavily influential powerbroker Shadow Peers Leader, the Lord Wittfield, a foreign policy victory to boost their credentials will do well in their chances to fare in the late summer. While not enough to turn the tides of the campaign in the Tories’ favour, one political analyst argues, it might be enough to alleviate the Conservatives’ decline in polling.

Luthorian and Valruzian diplomats launched themselves in a long negotiation period over any form of agreement, the Luthorian side notably aiming at obtaining military basing rights for its ILN warships upon Valruzian bases. According to current information, Valruzia is “cautious, yet opened” to the proposal, although the Valruzian side is expecting serious concessions on Luthori’s part for it to pass through. 

Economically, Luthorian economic doctrine of liberalism and interconnected globalism in terms of trade have come to clash with Valruzia’s more protectionist outlook on the matter. According to those close to the files, it is the matter of trade and economic integration between the two nations that is going to take up most of the negotiating period. The Economic Analyst described the two nations’ economic philosophies as being similar to “cat and mouse negotiating”, that expression referring to the different and radically opposed philosophies of both governments and different aims that can hamper the negotiating process.

While Blackhall hope for the agreement to be finalised before the election, it is, according to a high-ranking diplomat, unlikely to be the case, the Foreign Office, aware of that fact, has instructed Luthorian diplomats to “rush in” negotiations with the Seleyan nation. 

The Parkford government is seemingly betting on this agreement for its chances in the next general election, as the Labour Party continues its untiring rise in the polls and the perspective of a Labour government becomes increasingly likely as Mrs. Tapihana’s charm and popularity sway the public to her cause of progressivism.
