Haradesa - Following a swift electoral campaign the first new government of the Nsanian Federation is set to take office next month. The General People's Congress led by Mosi Ramadhani won a comfortable majority in the Federal Assembly, capturing 171 seats in the 269 seat chamber. In the senate the party won 11 seats, just enough to also enjoy a majority there. With the result Ramadhani is to become the first prime minister of the new Federation.
Second was the hosian democratic "Nsanian Democracy", winning a respectable 82 seats in the Assembly and 7 in the Senate. Its leader Tabiya Barassa conceded defeat and congratulated Ramadhani with his victory. The KLF swept all of Kagba, winning every Kagban seat in Senate and Assembly, while the minor "Socialist Party" won the rest of a handfull of seats.
Despite the GPC its victory the election went all but smoothly. Voter intimidation was widespread as supporters of different tribes and factions pressured voters at several polling stations. In some parts of the country voting was not available, as gangs and armed militia's still control parts of primarily the countryside. The worst example of this was the constituency of Mabakwame, which elected a GPC MP with just 20% of voters able to reach a polling station.
Despite the difficulties in a now torn nation, Prime Minister elect Ramadhani promised a "swift transition of power" and "a period of reconstruction and healing" for the nation. Easier for him is the fact that the GPC presidential candidate, Hali Abdalla, won the presidential election in the first round, capturing nearly 62% of the vote to become president. Despite the limited powers now vested in the presidency, a trifecta will likely help the new GPC government to govern more effectively. With a nation still unstable and violence a daily occurance such a mandate might be the only thing standing in between succes and collapse.
