Justice Party and Green Party Announce Formal Electoral Coalition

Udon Nakhon –– The opposition Justice Party (JP) and Green Party (GP) have announced an agreement to form a formal electoral and political coalition, to be known as the Justice-Greens. This marks the second such agreement in South Dovani since the creation of the governing Patriotic Alliance (PA) between the United Conservative Front (UCF) and Hanzen Heritage Party (HHP) in 5630.

At a joint rally, Justice Party leader Thaksin Luang hailed the coalition as a union of the labour movement, democratic socialists, and environmentalists, while Green Party leader Thiang Boonmee stated that “united, our parties are on a stronger footing to challenge the establishment parties of the left, which have betrayed working people and pillaged our environmental heritage.”  

A number of labour unions traditionally aligned with the Revolutionary Alliance (RA), Progressive Peoples' Union (PPU), or New Elephant Worker’s Party (NEWP), have broken with their old allies to support the Justice-Greens, most notably the Confederation of Longshoremen (CL) and the Hanzenese Union of Public Employees (HUPE). The HUPE, in particular, turned against the NEWP after its role in facilitating the NERI privatization efforts led by its junior coalition partner, the Party of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs (PIE).

Unlike the Patriotic Alliance, which lacks a formal leadership structure, the Justice-Greens will have a more organized and vertically integrated governance system. Local grassroots committees will hold regular assemblies for members and the public to discuss politics and policies, and elect delegates to the National Plenary. This deliberative body, made up of representatives from member parties, unions, and social movements, will be the highest decision-making authority. It will appoint members to the Executive Secretariat, a leadership group consisting of representatives from both parties and aligned organizations. 

The leader of the Executive Secretariat will serve as Secretary-General, and will likely be chosen from the leadership of the member parties, though the Executive Secretariat has the power to choose anyone to serve as a unifying leader of the coalition. Similarly, the coalition will nominate a joint presidential candidate through a primary open to members of both parties, with nominees not necessarily having to belong to either party.

The Justice-Greens are set to be “officially” founded during a Conference scheduled on 1 May 5632, International Workers' Day. It is during this conference that the Executive Secretariat, and Secretary-General, will be appointed.
