Minister of Foreign Affairs Abatai Soca: we have a one in a lifetime opportunity, and we have to use it

In an exclusive interview for the Gemun Post, foreign minister Soca spoke to us about the pan-Dovani movement in Bianjie and beyond, closer cooperation with the newly-formed Southern Dovani Community and its member states and modern conflicts in the "Old World".

Interviewer Tian Zhou: 

Minister Soca, thank you for agreeing to do this interview.

Minister Abatai Soca: 

Absolutely, it is an honour and relief to sometimes casually speak to someone. laughs

Zhou: 

Well then, let's just jump straight into our interview main topic today: regional and international cooperation. For a couple decades now, both political sides in Bianjie, but the government you're a member of, and you personally, have advocated for more intensive and close relations with our neighbours in Dovani, through various channels of communication, be it bilateral agreements or supranational organisations, like the recent formation of the SODOC, or the Southern Dovani Community. So, my question is: how do you rate the current situation and is there something that you wish could be done additionally?

Soca: 

Yes, indeed. Under many previous governments we have been rather isolated and abandoned, so our current foreign policy is fixing that, and we can see the fruits of our hard work: Bianjie is respected and is a great partner for many nations across the world. Obviously, the work does not stop here, and we will towards even closer cooperation with countries like Xsampa, South Dovani, and again, even beyond Dovani. Our newly acquired partnership with Egelion. So, we did a great job before, we established for the world that are we willing to do business, and we will continue to do.

Zhou: 

Regarding Xsampa, you mentioned even closer cooperation with them. Xsampa, as of right now, is one of our closest and most valuable allies, what is there more to do, and are there any plans or ideas?

Soca: 

I can say that we are keeping in close contact with them and, Madam Yama Beauvais, my counterpart in Metz-Leonid. I would not say we have plans per se, but we often discuss various agreements, both economic and political between our nations. We are working towards even closer economic relations between our countries, freer trade and markets, possibly involving other nations, but that's a different conversation.

Zhou: 

What about SODOC, what do we have to except, and what do you personally expect it to do? What will SODOC give us and what it can accomplish?

Soca: 

Well, I personally think of SODOC like an experiment. This is a major attempt at bringing together the Dovanian nations. Obviously, WDU exists, but that's western part of our continent, right, what about the south? *laughs* SODOC will not be perfect and easy to manage obviously, but we have held quite extensive negotiations on the structure, powers and other parts needed for SODOC to exist and operate properly. SODOC must and wiil be our regional commitment to peace, economic prosperity and security. I think Bianjie will benefit greately, because we are opening ourselves to the outer world, and at same time we're inviting others to come see our beautiful landscapes, and invest in our nation, or simply start a new life here, after all.

Zhou: 

Now, minister, I am pretty sure you are aware of the current tensions ongoing in other various parts in the world, be it escalating trade war in the Majatra, or rather Migrants Pass, or the recently-ended invasion of Kundrati. Do you have any thoughts on this, and how should we react, if we need to even?

Soca: 

Yes, indeed. I think it is quite simple, really. What is going on continents like Majatra and Artania, and Seleya comes down simply to one word: idiotism. And, may my foreign colleagues forgive me for this kind of undiplomatic language, but it is what it is. But yet, at the same time, I see it as a positive thing for us, and us only. Why, you may ask? Again, very simple. We are being given a once in a lifetime opportunity to put ourselves forward as the relevant and strong power that others can and must really count with. The chaos that is happening between the nations of the Three Point Federation and northern Seleyan nations is an opportunity for us to present ourselves as a valuable, reliable and safe partner for countries on both sides of the conflict, for countries are uninvolved, and are neutral. We can become a centre of regional or international diplomacy, we can become a centre of regional or global trade. What is happening today is global realignment of forces, and everything is a sandbox right now. It depends on how we, above all, will shape it, how it will impact us.

Zhou:
