Mordusia gives docking rights Egelion
March 5642
Port des Pieux, Voisain - Egelion’s navy has been given permanent docking and refueling rights in the port in Voisain. These rights were given after negotiations by Luthori onbehalf of Mordusia and Egelion. The new treaty starts a new relationship between Mordusia and Egelion, one which the government hopes will help the development of the economy and the increased trade with Dovani and Keris.
It is no secret that the naval defense capacities of the Commonwealth are suboptimal. The growing trade lanes in the East and the increasing oppertunities for Mordusia to be an alternative to the busy Aldegar canal, especially with the high speed bullet train for persons and freight offer great economic boons for Mordusia. But it also offers strategic problems for the safety of these trade lanes. Dovani and Viscania are known to have historic problems with piracy. Also regional instability often disrupts trade. The government therefor felt it neccessary to seek out naval partners and tie them to the region. Such a nation is Egelion.
The National minister of Foreign Affairs and the Prime-Minister said that the country needs a more broad outlook and seek out partners. Though Luthori will always remain partner number one, thanks to the Commonwealth and personal union, the Commonwealth cannot bank soley on the power of the Empire to protect every part of Mordusia, especially Mordusian trade. With the decline of the Canrille Empire, to move more inwards, the protection in the oceans to the east of Mordusia are less protected. Though the Anatonese Empire provides thankfull security in the Anatonese ocean the relations between Kalistan and the Commonwealth countries of Luthori and Mordusia are rocky. Mordusia does not consider them immidiate partners according to the Foreign Ministry.
According to Economic Minister Elsbeth Lucilia the deal with Egelion will set up new and better relations with Egelion and provide cover in the East and expansion of trade and shipping from the Mordusian-Luthorian shipping industry. The idea of the government is to make new deals with Egelion and various Dovani nations for better trade relations. Though the Anatonese Empire remains also a interesting entity to discuss relations with, the hostile relations towards Luthori and Egelion make it less than ideal for the Commonwealth to engage in.
