As campaign season begins for the Nadiyan Elections, Vrosnok finds itself in a unique spot. The people are in a democracy. After all, they are voting for Nadiyan parties sometime soon, and they did vote for the House of Businesses. But apathy always made it hard to say Vrosnok is a democracy. When the winner is always the same, you can't blame people for not caring. So earlier this morning, when Platonava announced her intent to reform political institutions, and reform the electoral system, interest shot up fast. It wasn't the first time reformists announced new plans, sure, but working with AVaK? That sold the deal. So with interest, genuine interest there, even if apathy remains, what exactly is Platonava planning?
First, she's laid out a roadmap. Within the week, the Electoral Reform Council will be created to determine the future of the electoral system. By next Spring to Summer, the electoral system will be molded away from the technocratic status quo into a multi party direction, establish the Electoral Commission of Vrosnok, define how political parties can form, funding for them, and begin an effort to educate the public on civic discourse. Apathy can and will kill any genuine democracy so the fact that Platonava is accounting for that is speaking volumes. Ideally, by 5653, elections will occur, and other parties will have a genuine chance to compete.
Given this is just the roadmap, there is much work ahead but this is certainly bound to be exciting. AVaK has been quite enthusiastic with the reforms, claiming that democracy can continue facilitating a revival of the Krivian culture. There is much work to be done before we see new parties emerge, but perhaps the future is looking as bright as the Auroras in Snihovsk for once.
What this means for the House of Businesses is yet to be seen as depending on what the ERC determines, the House of Businesses may outright dissolve or reform into a proper political party. While it's hard to say what's happening internally due to party secrecy, we can only guess. It could be joy and euphoria, or the equivalent of a civil war. We can only guess. But what we can confidently say is, Platonava is a woman of her word. She claimed to be a reformist, and a reformist she is. While apathy will always remain, perhaps her being a genuine reformist will help bring the apathy down just enough for the next elections to thrive. For now, we can only await and hope for the best results of this roadmap.
