BREAKING: Khanate Yuan votes to legalise the same-sex marriage in Bianjie

As thousands of activists filled the streets of rainy streets of the capital city on Tuesday, in a historic and landmark decision, Bianjie's parliament in a 157-72 ballot, voted to legalise the same-sex marriage across the nation, paving the way to become the second nation in the southern Dovani to recognise marriage equality in Bianjie. Starting from the next week, LGBTQ+ couples will be allowed to officialise and register their marriage within the government agency officies nationwide.

"Freedom won today. Freedom to love whoever you want. Freedom to express yourself freely. In the very end, love will always triumph hate, no matter how hard some people may try", said Rong Meng, the acting director of Gese, said to the Radio 562 following the vote in the Yuan. "This is a moment to cherish and celebrate, but it has been a long and arduous campaign for Bianjie to become the second nation in southern Dovani to legalize same-sex marriage.”

The successful State Council proposal, submitted by the Vice Premier and Minister of Justice and Civil Affairs was the only one to use the word "marriage". It was backed by the March for Equality, despite the fact it could still see same-sex couples denied general rights enjoyed by hetrosexual couples, like adoption and cross-national marriage. But momentum for a marriage equality law had stalled as opponents, including some church and conservative groups, campaigned against the mandated changes. Voters would slimly reject the proposal, had it been put to a  referendum vote, according the ISUG poll from last year, and politicians have been slow to move forward out of fears of being punished in last year’s general election.

After the vote, Premier Abatai Soca released a statement, where he thanked the lawmakers for approving the bill, and thanked the activists for fighting for making this happen for years. "We took a big step towards true equality, and made Bianjie a better country", Premier wrote on his social media, adding that he hopes Bianjian vote could influence other places in Dovani to approve same-sex marriage.
