Charlus Cornelius makes an international press statement as Calatians assume control of West Aquilonia

Charlus Cornelius, the Patrician who emerged as the informal leader of a new movement seen in West Aquilonia and, to some extent, West Sadaria, that seeks to restore the Principate, has made a communication to the international press so that it reaches all nations of Terra as news came from the reaction of the international community to the situation in Selucia. This has only been possible thanks to the fact the Restorationist movement has been growing larger and larger in West Aquilonia, to the point of becoming a majority and pushing away the control of the Legion in the territory. Thus, Charlus Cornelius stated:

"This message goes to the international community, which I assume will receive this message. 

First of all, I'd like to thank in the name of every Restorationist the condemnation of the tyrant that illegally decided to assume power and completely ruin the foundation of our nation - not just our stability, in the attempt of restoring it supposedly, but our economy, our values, our traditions, and everything Selucia stands for. But there are several things I'd like to address.

First: we are the only real opposition to the Imperator, together with some loose rebels in West Sadaria that are not linked to our movement. But we're only Plebeians, Patricians, and some Yeudis, working together - all of us in poor condition and with barely any means to fight. Our opposition is limited to very risky offensives, protesting, sabotaging, and disobeying. We don't have access to weapons, and we can't realistically fight the Legion, which is acting in support of the Imperator.

And we are the only real opposition because, much as we appreciate the efforts from other nations, Selucia has been very sceptical of others' intentions when they interfere with our business. I speak not just in the name of most Selucians, nor of the Imperator's regime loyalists, but also from mine and the Restorationist movement, when we say we will never accept any foreign government involving itself in our struggle. We appreciate help, and we need help: but help is not trying to fix things for us. 

Lastly, I speak in the name of the whole Restorationist movement, that we seek to normalise relations with the international community, all while holding ourselves responsible for any damage done to the Yeudi population, even if our movement is doing all it can to secure their freedom and wellbeing, and we do have many Yeudis among us. We may share a certain distrust towards Amudim and Yeudis, but neither of us want to take things to the level the Imperator has taken it. It is for that reason that we seek to overthrow the Imperator's tyrannical regime, and send the Yeudis back elsewhere, possibly back to their motherland. This may be seen as a forceful deportation, but Yeudis are not safe in Selucia and Selucians do not want the Yeudis in our soil. And the Restorationist movement shares this sentiment, and I assume Amudim does as well towards us. 

But our friendship with Beiteynu back to the days of the Principate is something we honour, and for that reason, we have but to respect Yeudis and Amudim, even if only to a bare minimum. And that we promise we will."

Meanwhile, the government and the Legion are going harder against the protests in West Sadaria, where there is less organisation thus far, and where there have been more violent attacks provoked by the protestors. There have been several injuries, especially from the protestors' side, although none fatal.

Calatian Principate formed in West Aquilonia | Oleria rebels against the Imperator

As the Restorationists in West Aquilonia have pushed back the Legion and assumed control of the territory, including government buildings, they have proclaimed an independent state from Scipio's Selucia, which is commonly referred to as Calatia (due to sharing the same borders and culture) under a mock Principate system. Charlus Cornelius has been crowned "Vicaire du Princeps", or as he's referred to commonly in short, "Vicaire". The Vicaire is meant to be the torchlight that leads the Selucian people towards the Princeps, and a Princeps when there is no Princeps. A Senate of 200 Restorationist loyalists has been put into place, and a few army assets have been seized - although still not enough to fight Scipio's Selucia. Thus, formally, one can say West Aquilonia has evolved into the formation of the Principate of Calatia. It is important, however, to state that Selucia is not under civil war yet: no action has been commited by either side to attack the other. There isn't much more information about Calatia, as they are trying to maintain certain secrecy. 

The Imperator, as a result, has increased the oppression of West Sadarians, resulting in some public executions as well as accidental deaths in violent insurrections. Following the international press statement from Charlus Cornelius, the message spread to Oleria, where horrified by the government's response to West Sadaria, the Olerian First Cohort (consisting of 800 Legionaries) under the commandment of Primipilus centurion Opiter Lucilius rebelled against the government and has ensured that any political and military asset in Oleria remained inactive for the time being. Opiter Lucilius and his cohort is the most important one of the army, and him rebelling is not a random event: Lucillius had long had his differences with Imperator Scipio when he was the Legatus of the army, and for this reason Lucillius was never offered a spot in the Imperator's government, not even the office of Legatus. The only reason why, unlike the rest of unloyal offices, Lucillius wasn't detained and stripped of his rank, is because Lucillius is a popular figure in the army, as is expected of the commander of the First Olerian Cohort. Oleria has long been the Selucian military stronghold, as well as a technological park. Most technological production, as well as most bases, are located in Oleria, and thus they are the most prepared for military conflict. Scipio's Selucia losing this asset is, probably, an even bigger threat and disappointment than losing West Aquilonia.

However, make no mistake: Opiter Lucillius, while not as radical as Imperator Scipio, is certainly interested in maintaining the status quo. He sees himself as a replacement of Scipio, not as a revolutionary, a Restorationist, or even a reformer. While he has publicly stated several times that he deems a grave mistake having imprisoned the Yeudi population, having proposed a forceful deportation of Yeudis to other parts of Terra instead (in a less diplomatic way than the Restorationists propose), he agrees with the rest of policies of Scipio as well as the current system. He considers that his grave mistake is the mistreatment of Yeudis, which is leading the nation to ruin, as well as his treatment of Selucian citizens that "know far better than the cheap excuse for an Imperator we have."

As the crisis in Selucia becomes more difficult to sustain, with Calatia proclaiming the Imperatorship illegitimate and forming a new government based on the Principate, as well as the First Olerian Cohort rebelling against the Imperator, the old Scipio could not remain in the shadows for much longer. 

"I predicted that, indeed, our enemies would take advantage to tear us down and, as the opportunist leeches they are, try to take Selucia for themselves. Turn our precious nation into a puppet, perhaps even worse than that. They have but helped ruin Selucia, and some of them dare blame me! But even worse is seeing our own people blaming me, in spite of all the efforts I've taken to protect us... I hope they can open their eyes now, before it's too late. They [our enemies] are out there, right there! In the sea, in the air, in the comfort of their homes... While we deal with uncertainty, chaos, and blood. And any hole, the smallest possible hole, that I left in this nation... will be its very own death. Perhaps I have grown tired: Selucians are unruly, and perhaps we have nothing to do with what we used to be in our glorious past... and it is time to let go of such assumptions.

I am old, I barely have energy left to rule this nation, even less so in this situation... But I do have a warning: one, for our rebels, and it is that you are going to destroy that which you so dearly hold in your hearts; another, for our enemies... You've won. But you'll pay for everything. Sooner or later. And I loathe that I will not be there to see your tears and hear your screams."

With a tired expression, and with a powerful message as such, the Imperator retired back to the 'comfort of his home' and made no further comment, nor took any action. Rather, it is as if he had given up and decided to keep things going until the very end of his own life: he will not bow down to those who have opposed him, but he will not bother fighting either. It is the sign of a man admitting defeat, but too tired and proud of himself to accept it.

Imperator Scipio dies in bed | What now? 
November 5689

Today, 14th of November 5689, Imperator Scipio, who had been inactive for quite some time, has finally perished in his own bed at night during sleep. While it's still being investigated, as some believe, logically, that this could have been more than just a natural death, it has been confirmed nonetheless that there have been no signs of murder thus far, and that it might as well have been a combination of old age and stress. By the time Scipio proclaimed himself Imperator, he already was close to retirement from the army. However, the crisis with the Senators forced him, as Legatus, to do something and proclaim himself Imperator in the absence of an alternative.

Now the question every Selucian, as well as the international community, have been making is: what of Selucia now? Scipio didn't name a successor - he believed he was just a temporary ruler, and not intending to create a new system. He also feared, especially since the formation of the Restorationist movement, creating a system that reminded of the Principate, which he disagreed with ideologically and also considered would bring ruin to the nation right now.

It didn't take long for Scipionist Selucia to give up to chaos. East Aquilonia and Sadaria are completely unruly: the Junta were in no position of leadership really, and their power was legitimised by Scipio assigning them to their position - as soon as Scipio is gone, their power is meaningless and unjustified. Or it is seen as such by the citizens. Not just that, but citizens that did not approve of Scipio - which is known was the vast majority - would surely not accept his "puppets". 

Oleria, currently ruled by Lucilius of the First Olerian Cohort, has taken advantage to send a great chunk of the cohort to Auroria and fill the vacuum left by the death of Scipio. Lucilius believes himself to be a successor of Scipio - or rather, of the Imperator. Lucilius had long had differences with Scipio, and these just strengthened during his rule as Imperator - but as a Legionary, and one with authoritarian tendencies at it, he logically supported the system installed by Scipio. Lucilius, however, is seen as more pragmatic: like Scipio, he wants to stabilise the nation and restore order, and that includes making sacrifices sometimes. For instance, it is known that one of the major disagreements Lucilius had with Scipio's decisions was the imprisonment of the Yeudi-Selucian population, and he instead proposed mass deportation, seeing Yeudis as a destabilising people, not just the diaspora, but the Yeudi population in Beiteynu/Amudim. 

Meanwhile, it is known that West Aquilonia, reorganised as the Principate of Calatia by Charlus Cornelius, has been actively working on stabilising this territory as well as making deals with other nations, something that has also made both Scipio and Lucilius not act against him. While West Sadarian rebels have offered certain support to the Restorationist movement in Calatia, it seems Plebeian unions have seized advantage of the situation to impose some form of organisation to the whole chaos in West Sadaria, most notably by Sertor Livius, who has been trying to unify the Plebeian unions throughout West Sadaria to re-create the Selucian Republic in smaller-scale as an anti-Imperator and anti-Principate alternative.
