Archduke signals Willingness to grant further Autonomy to Kunihito

Just one year after succeeding his father, the young sovereign is already causing unrest in the political establishment

In response to a collective petition from numerous Kunihito subjects, the Archduke announced that he was willing to decouple the Touryou State even more from the government affairs of Ostland in the future. He instructed both the Ostland Council and the parliament of the Touryou State to draw up appropriate proposals for constitutional reform. While Touryou is already eagerly drafting proposed legal texts, the majority of the Ostland Council is protesting against the monarch's plans. Some even go so far as to accuse Florentin Felix of undermining the state and endangering the integrity of Ostland as a whole. According to them a further increase in autonomy in Touryou would de-facto amount to a tolerated secession.
Rumors that the still relatively inexperienced head of state intends to limit the influence of the church and initiate reforms to secularize Ostland only fuel the uncertainty in large parts of the political landscape. Florentin Felix, however, appears unimpressed by such concerns and seems determined to implement the path he has proposed in order to lead Ostland into an even more pluralistic future.

Ostlandrat blocks new Constitution
Parliament in Touryou outraged

Parliamentarians in the Touryou State have completed their lengthy work on a proposal for a new constitution. The constitutional reform provides for a far-reaching expansion of the autonomy of the sub-region. Among other things, powers that were previously reserved for the Archduke are to be transferred to a directly elected governor. The Touryou State is thus to be granted the right to almost complete self-government in the future.
The formal adoption of the new constitution, however, also requires the approval of the Ostlandrat. However, the Council continues to vehemently oppose any attempt to further decouple the Touryou State from the rest of Ostland. In order to resolve the stalemate, voices are now being raised calling for further intervention by the Archduke. In theory, he would have the power to fill the council with new members in such a way that a majority would be in favor of the reform, but this would violate customary law and political tradition in an unprecedented way. All over the south, political organizations and the Touryou Parliament itself called for demonstrations against the blockade by the Ostlandrat. Archduke Florentin Felix, however, is keeping a low profile. According to rumours from the monarch's inner circle the political crisis he has provoked seems to have gotten out of hand for him. Even though his initiative is being praised abroad and especially by citizens of the Touryou state, he is desperately searching for political allies in his own country.

Archduke under arrest
military activity throughout the country, skirmishes in the south

After rumors emerged that Archduke Florentin Felix intended to dissolve the Eastern District Council, the nation is in turmoil. A coalition of the nobility, other conservative elements of parliament, high-ranking military officers and fundamentalist Hosianists has announced that it will form an interim government to "preserve the nation".

While the military presence in northern and central regions is approved or even welcomed by the civilian population, there are said to have been numerous riots in the area of the Touryou state between various factions of the military and the predominantly Kunihite population. Reports of militias bearing emblems of the Dundorf Knights Order have also been confirmed by several reliable sources. Their equipment suggests that they were armed with arsenal stocks from the Landwehr. This and the fact that the militias have proved to be extremely tactically adept in previous guerrilla battles suggests that the violent overthrow of the Archduke was planned a long time ago. According to statements by the "transitional government" and his own court, he has been under arrest in his palace since midday. The area was overrun and cordoned off by troops. Even the involvement of the Guard Regiment in the coup seems likely. According to statements by the right-wing putschists, regular troops from the core area of the Eastland are planned to be deployed in Touryou State as soon as the northern and central areas are completely secured.
