Schism confirmed: Kaczorowski launches new party
"It is time to defend original Valruzianism – from which we never should have strayed"

Although many didn't believe that it would come to that, it has finally happened: Eliasz Kaczorowski has launched today Worthy Homeland ("Godna Ojczyzna") with the stated mission of defending what he described as "original Valruzianism" from which Sovereign Valruzia "should never have strayed". The announcement ends months of mounting tension inside Sovereign Valruzia and marks the most significant rupture in the party's history since its foundation. For the first time in a century of Valruzian democratic life, the party that invented Valruzianism will face a rival explicitly claiming to represent it better.
In a press conference in Nowogard, Kaczorowski was notably free of the hesitation that has characterised his public interventions in recent months, accusing Chancellor–President Aleksandra Kos of "drifting away" from what Valruzianism "was intended to be" and arguing that the progressive turn of the Kos government had transformed SW into something [Szymon] Nowik "would not recognize"
The most incendiary moment came when Kaczorowski said, after accusing Mrs. Kos of betrayal, said that "today, Szymon Nowik would have chosen to break away with us". That claim landed like a grenade inside SW's inner circles, as Szymon Nowik is Sovereign Valruzia's founding myth, the figure whose personal authority defined Valruzianism for a generation and whose name remains the closest thing the ideology has to a sacred text. To invoke him in justification of a breakaway was, to many inside the party, not just a mere political provocation but something that came closer to a desecration.
"It is an insult" said one senior SW deputy, speaking without attribution "to suggest that the man who decriminalized homosexuality, who built our welfare state, who governed this country the way he did, would today be marching out of his own party due to mere pettiness".
But what has triggered the alarm inside the party is a flash poll conducted by Valruzia Elects after the split was made public and published this evening:

Sovereign Valruzia, which won 49.8% of the vote share in the 5725 elections and has governed with an absolute majority for two consecutive legislatures, stands at 33% in tonight's poll while Worthy Homeland would enter the field at 15%, with the arithmetic being as clear as water: virtually the entirety of GO's support appears to have come directly from SW, whose losses map almost exactly onto GO's debut figure. The party has not so much split as it has been cut by a third.
But the beneficiaries extend beyond Kaczorowski and his new party. Forward Valruzia jumps from 25.5% to 31% in this flash poll, suggesting that some voters who might previously have tolerated SW as the only credible governing option are now reassessing in a more fragmented landscape, but also collecting moderate votes from its right, from Valruzian Alliance, as they are seeing increasing options in Forward Valruzia as a governing party. The KPW and FLK hold roughly steady, a result that analysts will interpret as confirmation that the left's floor is firm even if its ceiling has been constrained.
The headline, however, is inescapable: if tonight's poll reflects anything close to actual electoral behaviour in 5730, Sovereign Valruzia will lose its absolute majority for the first time in ten years, and the question of who governs Valruzia will become, for the first time in a century, genuinely open, since both sides – the left and the right – would be virtually tied for the very first time. Further question would be if GO and NW accept to govern alongside the far-right, or even if GO and NW can come to an understanding.
The results of this poll show a bitter irony in the timing of the breakup, as the split within Sovereign Valruzia has happened not because the party is weak, but because it has been strong enough, for long enough, under a particular kind of leadership, that the other kind has concluded it has no future inside of it. Kos won the Chancellor-Presidency with over fifty percent of the vote and she commands a legislative majority that is making her programme to advance, firm and steady. And precisely because of that, the conservative wing within Sovereign Valruzia has concluded that there is nothing left worthy of fighting for from the inside.
But there is an important question still that Kaczorowski will need to answer quickly, and that is what Godna Ojczyzna is for beyond being against what Kos has done. It is well-known that a programme of opposition is not a programme of government. For now, only two other deputies have joined Kaczorowski in his adventure, but that's enough to reduce SW's absolute majority from 305 to 302, a bare minimum over the 301-majority.
From her side, Chancellor–President Kos has not spoken publicly since the announcement. Those close to her describe a Chancellor-President who considers herself above this kind of battle. "She will keep defending the party's legacy on the basis of her convictions" said one figure in her inner circle "because it is her belief that an ideology also evolves, and that does not mean betraying a set of principles".
