Nowik becomes Chancellor 

Sejm has approved Sovereign Valruzia leader's cabinet proposal in charge of rebuilding the nation

Following the results of the 5630 Valruzian elections, which you can see HERE, Sovereign Valruzia retained his position as most-voted party albeit with 25 less seats and an overall 8.7% decrease in support compared to the previous elections. The electoral system reform, which saw a proportional distribution of seats among the Voivodeships according to their population, as well as the overall excellent performance of the Communist Party of Valruzia thanks to the still popular figure of its former leader and now President of Valruzia Karolina Pietrzyk and its strong performance in what is becoming its stronghold of Kampania were among the two best explanations that experts gave to this decrease in SW performance. The other big winner of the night was the recently created Valruzian Alliance, led by the lawyer of former deputy and leader of National Salvation, Ignacy Zelazny, who last year was sentenced to life imprisonment for his role in the 5627 Valruzian coup attempt. The party amassed 10% of the vote and 61 deputies in the 601-seat Sejm, whilst its main competitor and former party of Zelazny, National Salvation, merely got a 6% and lost half of its former seats. 

During the electoral night after the announcement of the results, Szymon Nowik, leader of Sovereign Valruzia and the cousin of murdered student Robert Obrzut whose death sparked the revolution that toppled the Morawski regime, announced that he was ready to talk with everyone to give Valruzia "the best government in charge of rebuilding the nation and bring Valruzia back to its former glory". The same electoral night, KPW general secretary Tobiasz Bernas - elected as Marshall of Kampania - announced his party support to a government led by Sovereign Valruzia, although they would not want a place in it and instead would support it in the Sejm. Other parties, such as the center-right and election runner-up National Renewal or the Liberal Alliance announced immediately their intention to be in the opposition to any kind of government led by Sovereign Valruzia.

One month after the election, the Sejm has voted in its new leadership and has elected who will be the first official Chancellor of Valruzia, putting an end to the Military Junta rule and marking the official start of the full democratic Valruzia. KPW candidate Tatjana Borkowska was elected as Marshall of the Sejm - equivalent to president of the chamber - with the support of Sovereign Valruzia. However, this election sparked the first conflict of the legislature, as Dignity and Progress was supposed to vote in favor of the nomination but instead chose to vote for their own candidate, leaving Mrs. Borkowska with no absolute majority and triggering a second round. Following the voting, Mr. Bernas - who will combine his role as national deputy with his position as Marshall of Kampania - called GiP's decision as "shameful" and "ridiculous", especially after the agreement in which the KPW would vote in favor of including the GiP in the upcoming government. From the GiP's leadership they justify their vote in Mrs. Borkowska's resume, citing her "violent activism" and "lack of experience" as the main reasons behind their vote.

After the election of the Chamber, the proposed Chancellor had the time to speak before the Sejm in order to present his government plan before being voted in or not. Mr. Nowik unfolded a plan based in three axis, mainly in the fields of economy, industry and science, and emphasized his intention of defending a sovereign Valruzia. Mr. Nowik's candidacy was approved by 348 votes in favor and 216 against, with National Salvation surprisingly casting 37 abstentions. Its new leader, Janina Rzaca, justified the decision in giving Mr. Nowik "a vote of confidence" regarding his economic and industrial plan", but that the abstention by no means was a "sign of support for the upcoming far-left government". 

A day later, Mr. Nowik has presented his government composition with 16 ministers, including 3 independents (Justice, Agriculture and Environment) and the leader of Dignity and Progress as Deputy chancellor and minister of Internal Affairs. This government becomes the first official government of the new Valruzia, and puts an end to the interim rule of the Military Junta. Its leader, Marcel Szumski, has personally congratulated Mr. Nowik for his election as Chancellor and has announced his retirement from the military and the public eye.

In the upcoming months, Nowik's government will present an "ambitious economic and industrial plan" aimed at building a strong background for Valruzian and international companies, and placing Valruzia in the centre of the international trade market, especially in regards to raw materials such as copper, nickel and Rare Terran Elements, all of which have big deposits within Valruzia.

has claimed Mr. Nowik, who has also announced the creation of three research institutes: the Valruzian Space Agency, the Nuclear Research Council and the National Centre for Scientific Research, all of them aimed at placing Valruzia "at the centre of the scientific and research field" and the main source of drugs, medicine, knowledge, trust and confidence for scientists around the world.

However, Mr. Nowik election as Chancellor has already sparked first criticisms. Being openly gay and living with his domestic partner since the fall of the Morawski regime, various LGBT advocacy groups had called for him to restore same-sex marriage in the nation. However, he has said that it was an specific issue that was "not on the priority list for a first government in charge of a huge task such as the reconstruction of decades of Valruzian decay", prompting protests and public complaints, accusing him of "neglecting who he is".

Nowik has invited the leaders of numerous nations around Terra to come visit and establish formal relationships with the now free nation, and has offered his minister of Foreign Affairs and himself to start touring around Terra to arrange various beneficial deals for Valruzia.
