Chief Minister forms the Health Service Executive

The Chief Minister has announced the creation of the Health Service Executive, a publicly funded healthcare system responsible for the provision of health and personal social services. The HSE is set to replace the dispersed and disorganised variety of institutions and boards that currently manage the health system, instead centralising it under the Ministry of Health and Social Services. It has been tasked with addressing major issues such as hospital overcrowding, serious delays in assisting disabled children, low staff retention rates and privacy failures. To assist the HSE, the Health Audit Board has been set up, alongside the Medical Card Programme, which entitles eligible citizens to additional services and free prescription medication and appliances.
