Demelmann era to end in first transfer of power for 16 years
President Egon Demelmann will stand down on the 30th of March and hand power to his deputy minister Henk Dolidze-Naaf at a challenging time for the Triadic Republic amidst an upcoming general election.

Current President of the Triad, Egon Demelmann, will stand down on this month's last Friday and hand power to Vice President and Minister of Finance Henk Dolidze-Naaf, the first change of power in Narikaton, Darnussia, and Himmelshtern (NDH) in a decade. This was announced after the United People's Party's (VVP) executive committee, with a three-fourths majority, voted in Mr Dolidze-Naaf as the new party president in an emergency closed-door meeting during the party's national convention.

Mr Dolidze-Naaf, 47, a Narik-Hobrazian economist credited with Himmelshtern's economic miracle as its minister-president from 5625 to 5629, will be the fourth triad president to lead in the 57th century, and is the youngest since 5619. He will be inaugurated in a ceremony at noon of 30 March 5635. Dolidze-Naaf, who is seen as Demelmann's direct mentee, has been the most powerful leader in the party's liberal, corporatist, Demelmann-aligned faction Fraktion der Volksaktion (People's Action Faction), which currently dominates the VVP. 

Outgoing president Demelmann, 65, has ruled Narikaton, Darnussia, and Himmelshtern since 5625, overseeing economic growth in one of the world’s wealthiest countries whilst consolidating the VVP in becoming the leading dominant party in the country. “He helped Narikaton and Darnussia continue to hold its VVP's grasp in being the natural party of government,” said Pieter-Bas Groenewoudt, associate professor at the University of Bannerheim. He continued, "After the failed grand coalition government under GRP's [Great Reform Party] President Fein, Mr Demelmann from the liberal-conservative wing swiftly urged the party to tack the centre, especially as the Industrialists decided to merge with the VVP and Thallerism fell out of favour." Demelmann also took steps in reforming NDH's governance: improving anti-corruption mechanisms and the rule of law, while undertaking constitutional and labour reform.

Mr Dolidze-Naaf, who will receive a ND$ 2.2 m (Luthorian £1.6m) salary, takes the presidential office at a challenging time for the regional power, where presidential and senate elections are only three months away. Growing domestic concerns about the cost of living, inequality, and immigration have dominated public discourse in the Triad Republics. Particularly, as NDH is highly dependent on foreign trade, it also finds itself vulnerable to wider continental instability, including the frozen civil war within Kundrati.

Analysts say the transition signals an evolution in NDH's political leadership as it moves out of the shadow of Demelmann, even though Mr Demelmann will remain in the cabinet as a senior minister.
