Medal standings following the second week of the Games

The second week of the I Northern Seleyan Games is keeping the flame of passion and competition alive, as the spotlight shifted from individual athletics and swimming, including waterpolo, to now team sports and combat disciplines. Over the past seven days, the stadiums and arenas across the Valruzian host city have witnessed a spectacular display of strength and strategy.

Fans have filled the different arenas across the capital city to support their teams in matches of football, basketball, handball, rugby, volleyball, and beach volleyball, with chants echoing through the venues. Meanwhile, indoor arenas have hosted intense bouts of boxing, judo, fencing, wrestling, taekwondo and weightlifting, both in female and male categories.

Team sports brought some of the most memorable moments so far, with Lodamun and the host country clashing in a nail-biting basketball that crowned Lodamun as the winners with a 93-92 score, and Tukarali pulling a dramatic comeback in handball to reach the gold medal in its final match against Baltusia. In rugby, Kalistan’s team surprised fans and betters alike, becoming the first gold medal recipients of the Northern Seleyan Games.

Combat sports also saw spectacular and thrilling matches to be seen both in person and on TV, particularly in taekwondo, wrestling and judo, where Valruzia was widely expected to dominate, collecting multiple golds across all its categories with ease. In boxing, Lodamese representatives took the spotlight, becoming the nation with most golds in the category. Fencing events were led by Baltusia, on the other hand. And yet, Kalistan collected two more gold medals in team sports, in the beach volleyball female and male categories, leaving no options to their rivals and achieving the medal without major complications.

As the second week has now finished, Valruzia maintains its lead in the overall medal standings, thanks to its strong showings in martial arts. Baltusia holds the most number of silver medals while Tukarali does so with bronze medals.

This week’s performances have increased the excitement and anticipation for the final stretch of the Games with many sports still ahead on the horizon and the competition being far from over. For sure there will be many more surprises in store!
