Final report: it's a wrap for the I North Seleyan Games!

After four full thrilling weeks of sport, competitions and North Seleyan sportmanship, the I Northern Seleyan Games have come to a triumphant ending. The final week of competitions focused on mind sports (chess, debate and speedcubing), traditional disciplines (horse racing, traditional rowing, sling shooting, stone lifting, tug of war, pentathlon, orienteering and traditional dances), and emerging events (eSports Go), offering one last opportunity for athletes to bring glory to their nations and fame for themselves, and they certainly delivered.

Among the highlights of the week were the chess tournaments, both in classic and team formats, where Valruzia and Baltusia split the golds equally with Valruzian claiming the male categories and Baltusia the female ones.

In eSports Go, Kalistan emerged as the undisputed champion, taking home both golds and solidifying its growing reputation in digital competition. Valruzia and Baltusia added more medals to their tallies, while Lodamun quietly continued its consistent podium presence.

Valruzia made a strong final push with golds in debate, sling shooting, and stone lifting, whilst in traditional rowing Kalistan surged forward, claiming both golds in a heartracing competition against home country Valruzia for the gold in the male category, decided by less than a second difference.

A fan-favorite for children, the tug of war, turned into a clash of titans between the same three nations in both categories: Lodamun, Baltusia, and Valruzia. Horse racing saw Tukarali and Lodamun taking the golds while pentathlon awarded their fame to Kalistan and Tukarali once more. 

The last event to be celebrated was the long-awaited traditional dances competition, which offered a vibrant end to the Games. Tukarali made a strong impression in the male category while Lodamun's female performance was awarded the gold.

Results for the last week of Games

After the results have been finally tallied, host nation Valruzia has officially claimed the top of the medal table benefitting from the so-called host country factor, achieving the impressive result of 66 gold medals and a record 148 total medals, with martial arts being its most dominated field. Tukarali and Lodamun followed with 42 and 36 golds, although it was Baltusia the nation that accompanied Lodamun as the second-ranked in number of total medals (131 both of them). And yet for Kalistan, despite its smaller delegation, a total of 44 medals (16 golds and 14 silver and bronze medals) was achieved, showing what its athletes are well capable of.

The closing ceremony in Nowogard marked the end of the Games, with Valruzian gold medalist judoka Rafał Wisz being the one chosen to carry the Game flame to its final destination until the next Games. President of Valruzia Aleksandra Bielecka and Chancellor Szymon Nowik will in charge of the closing ceremony, gifting the representatives of each delegation with a set of Valruzian specialties and the impressive golden laurel wreaths, one for each athlete who won a gold medal in the event. 

In a ceremony of music and lights, where renowned Valruzian singer GaOz was in charge of closing, the event came to an end after more than 25 million visitors have gone through the Valruzian capital, exceeding the expectations of the local authorities. We will have to wait until we find out where the next Games will be, especially since the North Seleyan Committee is interested in making the event a 10-year round, but for sure this Games will be long-remembered.
