KPW secures Chancellery

Following snap elections, deal achieved between KPW and SW; Kosowska resigns her positions in disagreement

After months of political instability and back-to-back elections, the Communist Party of Valruzia has officially taken control of the Chancellery, following a last-minute coalition agreement with Sovereign Valruzia. Iwan Nowik, son of former Chancellor Szymon Nowik, lleader of the KPW, Marshall of Kampania and President-elect of Valruzia, has been confirmed by the Sejm a few minutes ago with 349 votes in favour, becoming the first Chancellor from the Communist Party since the restoration of democracy in Valruzia.

The agreement, sealed in the early hours of Monday, puts an end to a prolonged period of uncertainty and opens a new political chapter in Valruzia, but not without internal consequences. Chancellor Zuzanna Kosowska, leader of Sovereign Valruzia and head of the outgoing government, announced shortly after the vote that she was resigning from all her political positions, citing "deep disagreements" with the course taken by her party and the decision to support Mr. Nowik.

The path to the agreement was anything but smooth. After the snap elections held in June 5660, KPW emerged as the leading force over SW, which dropped more than 3% compared to the January elections. Still, weeks of speculation followed as there were only two possible outcomes once again: agreement between SW and KPW or SW and NW.

However, with fears of a third election looming after two months had already passed, SW returned to the negotiation table but this time and for the very first time, not as the biggest party in the Sejm. According to sources close to the talks, a breakthrough came when KPW accepted to drop several of its more radical economic demands and with the compromise being more "a way to avoid third elections" rather than a genuine political alignment.

The agreement was fiercely debated inside Sovereign Valruzia, a debate that has ultimately lead to Kosowska’s resignation and a temporary leadership handover to now former Deputy Chancellor Robert Sobieraj, who played a crucial role in finalising the pact. 

In his first address to the Sejm as Chancellor, Iwan Nowik called for a "new social pact" rooted in solidarity, dignity, and social justice, and to tackle "economic inequality from its roots":

"Today, we start building a Valruzia that works for the people, all the people. The old politics of privilege and division have failed. It is time for unity, action, and courage."
Outside the parliamentary building, thousands of KPW supporters celebrated the vote waving red flags and chanting "Nowik, Nowik!" and "Czas na zmianę!" ("Time for change!").

The political response has been swift. Forward Valruzia (NW) denounced what it called a "dangerous alliance between statists and authoritarians" while Dignity and Progress (GiP) expressed cautious optimism, urging Nowik to uphold civil liberties and ecological commitments.

"We knew the day where the Sovereignists would pledge to the communist requests. It was just a matter of time."

said Anastazja Nabozny, leader of Forward Valruzia. Roksana Krysiak, leader of the far-right Forward Valruzia, accused Sovereign Valruzia of "selling the nation to the reds", and pledged to become "the fiercest opposition to this infamous government".

Now, the new government is expected to unveil its policy programme within the next two weeks, with priorities reportedly including minimum wage reform, healthcare expansion, housing legislation, and a renewed stance on foreign neutrality. It is also expected that Nowik will present a reform on many of the laws regarding the deputies, including salaries, terms and other issues.

At the same time, Kosowska’s departure leaves a major vacuum in SW, where internal divisions are now coming to the surface once again, as they did once Szymon Nowik decided to leave the party leadership. A party congress is expected in the autumn to determine the future leadership and ideological direction of what remains one of Valruzia’s most powerful political machines.
