Government allows Elections under State of Emergency,LDP ready for compromise !

Elections were held under high tensions as the Militias of the Opposition took up arms and garrisoned against government forces and the Blue Berets,Haytham Kennedy called for the elections to be a turning-point and end to tensions between the government and the opposition. Due to the chaos in Kalistan,Micheal Wallace postponed his resignation and once again was de-facto candidate of the LDP for President and gained just shy of 12 million votes. The second round saw a very close race between the PL and SP and with just 0,5% difference the SP won the Presidential Elections. The PL is once again the Majority in Parliament and the LDP is once again second-largest. Haytham Kennedy called for the new president to call off the militias and “fix issues within Democratic timetable”,and also Wallace ensured that his last mission as LDP Chairman would be ensuring a new stable government and compromise with the opposition. Primaries are scheduled to begin shortly after the new government is formed should Wallace resign. Obvious candidates to lead the LDP would be Haytham Kennedy which served as Head of Government for 6 years and the very popular daughter of former President Ceaser Furhat, Sarah Furhat.

FEATURE:  Who IS Oleg Guttersnipe?
Socialist Unknown places name in nomination and wins

Kaliburg, Ananto
June 2, 4525

Oleg Percival Guttersnipe, the new President of the Republic

**ADVISORY:  the President's speech will be transcribed phonetically because the few things the President said were often difficult for the reporter of this story to decipher.**

The politics of the Republic took a bizarre turn during the recent general election in many ways, as the electorate is contorted and stretched to the near breaking point.  Control of District Governments in Neveras and Ananto flipped.  The Government Coalition, (mainly the NLP) gained seats.  And the population has narrowly elected, on the second ballot, an unknown 28 year old from Kaliburg who placed his name in the elections when no other Socialist candidate came forward.  Due to stagnated Government from the Kennedy Administration, a combination of endorsements, and the arrival on the scenes of new Parties, Oleg Percival Guttersnipe won the Presidential election by a razor thin two-tenths of one percent.  "This is an unmistakable MANDATE!" declared Guttersnipe in a mostly incomprehensible, alcohol slurred victory speech.  Guttersnipe is expected to have a rocky term, as the main body of the Institutionalist Bloc remains in rebellion, and does not hold a majority in the Assembly.  But who is this man who became President?

Guttersnipe was born in a time of conflict.  "We ain't add no schools, when wes is growin up," said Guttersnipe to reporters in a thick Vrassan accent.  "Patriots basically privatized em and theys all closed, causay couldn't make no money off poor folks.  So when yus asks wheres I went to school, I says the streets, inno!"  Guttersnipe was raised in either Vrassa City, Senvias, or Python, depending on when the question was asked, but at any rate, it is almost certain that he is Vrassan.  At some point in his teens, Guttersnipe moved to Ananto, where he took a job as a "street busker," playing guitar outside of grocery stores and at intersections for money.  "Me only friend, 'Atdatoime' as me dog, inno," said Guttersnipe.  "Sadly, dat dog up n got issef it by a car...  Eeus free. Eeadd a bandana, a redn acorse."

While "busking", Guttersnipe decided to enroll in an alternative education program.  "Wes boys went up and got into school, mostly cause its warm up there inna winter," where he learned to read.  At this point, Guttersnipe became a voracious bibliophole.  "I read the Bennarts Book, and us impressed," said Guttersnipe, who also joined the Socialist Party around his 17th Birthday.  "First thing I ewer haxually read. Its like Ius catchin up, inno?"  When he completed his High School equivalent at 19, he enrolled in Kaliburg Polytechnic, and due to local assistance programs, as well as a bit of entrepreneurship which might have involved operating a small gambling operation, or operating a pornography theater, Guttersnipe eventually had enough tuition to enroll and live during his time in Kaliburg University's Graduate School.

"Yeh, I'm quite proud.  Just finershed the thesis," said Guttersnipe, who apparently wrote his masters' thesis on the symbiotic relationship between market economics and social welfare.  "I mean, like, if its gonna be this, yous gotta give something to the poor, inno?  Gotta take care of em, inno, sosay don't falls true the cracks and turn to crime.  Cuse, I's been poor.  And one thing I know, and my studies demonstrated, poverty multiples when you lets it, inno?  Like poor people like really skrewin, its hows we stays warm at night livin under a bridge.  And most poor people ain't too educated niever, sosay don't protects emsefs.  So poor folks have poor kids.  Yous gotta help them get out of that business."

Until being elected, Guttersnipe continued busking, but he no longer lives on the streets.  "See: im rags to riches, right?  I gots me a house.  Real nice.  Moving up in the world.  So I guess no more skrewin for me under the bridge, right? Gotsa learn to talk right like all the 'hoitie toitie Libbies'...  Oh look at me, Ims a rich boy!"  He was talking about getting a monacle so he would fit in with the still PL/LDP dominated government, but he finished with a laugh.  "At's pretty funny, eh?  Maybe I'll just get anova dog, inno?  Stupid rich bastards..."

Interview with Haytham Kennedy

(İ)nterviewer:Hello dear readers, today we will be discussing the recent past and near future of Kalistan and LDP with the former Premier of the Republic,Mr.Haytham Kennedy,Hello Mr.Kennedy.

(H)aytham Kennedy:Good evening, and you can call me Haytham.

İ:Very well,Haytham. As you know Kalistan has veen in a very troubling spot recently, with Militias threatening the government with civil war, tensions high as ever and a very confused and troubled National Assembly,Do you feel that with the recent elections these things are behind us ? Also What is your opinion of the recent elections and the results ?

H:Well, obviously the opposition is not one of patience and respect for democratic principles, atleast it wasn’t in the last 6 years. They proved this by perfoming in my opinion the most embarrasing acts in Kalistani history. Declaring themselves militants and firing upon government officials and buildings,it was truly an embarassment and its sad that they have the facelessness to come into the Assembly and demand representation. But thats our democracy and thats the LDP love for freedom and liberty that allows such things and thats how it is but regardless of the events of the past,i believe that these elections will prove to stabilise the situation, even though i highly doubt the new President’s abilities, regardless i think through the communication and good-will of the LDP in the Assembly,We will overcome these issues,We have to.

İBig Grino you see these elections as a failure for the LDP ?

H:Not exactly,İ see it as status quo, sure we lost some seats but so did almost every other party, due to new party coming in and naturally gaining attention from the population but the fact stands that we are still the second-largest party in Parliament and We have a good amount of authority.

İ:As you know a new government is needed to be formed,Would the LDP be willing to join a coalition formed by the new President which would naturally include the SP and possibly the other parties which claimed mutiny ?

H:We have no choice ! If we want to end hostilities,If we truly want a stable and safe Kalistan,We have no choice. However we do have conditions, first of all We will not join a government that’s led by Ewart of the NCP, Steele of the UKWF,although i do not know if he is in any state to perform. Also naturally we will want to enforce the fact that the LDP should lead the government after all.

İ:Micheal Wallace, the Liberal Democratic Party Chairman is rumored to resign after the formation of a new government,Would you be interested in taking his place ? Or would you support someone else from the party ?

H:I have given it no serious thought as we have more pressing issues to attemd to however i wont deny the possibility,i may or may not run in the primaries but regardless i believe that this is not the time for matters such as those.

İ:Thank you for your time Haytham !

H:My pleasure

Haytham Kennedy

President of the Republic calls for Truce
Socialist Militia backs off line

Kaliburg, Ananto
April 2, 4526

President Guttersnipe reacts to cheers from loyal supporters as he calls for Peace

At a barbecue in Kaliburg yesterday to celebrate the April First holiday, President of the Republic Oleg Guttersnipe held an impromptu press conference, where he issued a brief statement to assembled Press.  The President's Press Secretary offered the Republic transcribed notes of the speech, which we will reprint here, rather than attempt to decipher his spoken comments:

President of the Republic Oleg Guttersnipe Wrote:Friends, all of us assembled, and yes, some people who do not have a lot of basis and ground for trust with one another.  The political troubles in our Republic have gone on too long.  I have asked the leaders of the Socialist Party of Kalistan to call their militia off the line and send their boys and girls home.  We are not resolving anything this way.  Whether the other members of the institutionalist bloc follow is their own choice.  But the one thing I do know, and the one thing I think my elections demonstrates is that the people are exhausted.  I do not think that I was elected to make huge sweeping changes or to hold a line.  I think I was elected to provide the people of this country with a different tack in politics.  The one which wants to roll up its sleeves and get stuff done.

The Socialist Party has directed its militia to stand down for the moment.  They will not disband, and I have not asked them to, but a temporary armistice I think would help us talk to one another.  It will be temporary, for sure:  there is one or two possible outcomes I see.  Either the truce breaks down or it holds and we form the basis of a new arrangement in Kalistan which is based on not hostility that we see, but trust that the other side is not just a bunch of demonic actors the way we've been presenting it.  If it holds for a while, maybe we can have a truth and reconciliation commission.  It would be a good idea.

I've been approached about maybe sending someone to the World Council.  Perhaps it would be a good idea to get their input on the matter.  At any rate, this constant warring is not sustainable.  So I have asked my Party to put away their guns, and come to Kaliburg in one year for a Unity Festival.  We'll work with ODEN and make a GanJam with a reconciliation theme.  We'll make it a neutral ground where all are invited and nobody will be turned away.  And if people show up, they show up.  And if not, well, the GanJam is always a great show anyway.  We're also talking to the Brethren in Ananto about helping us out and getting the SP back onto peace mode.

When the President's speech was completed, he opened up to questions.  A lot of wide ranging questions were briefly and somewhat incomprehensibly answered, but soon, the President said simply, "Aight lads, let's hit the grills!" and, with a huge grin on his face, proceeded to jump off the podium into the crowd of people, who are not used to their President mixing so freely with them.  He was followed to the first BBQ stand and the festival was on.

Van Wyck Forced out as Party Speaker
Entire Shadow Government shown the Door with Combative Party Leader

Kaliburg, Ananto
May 3, 4526

Former Premier, now Private Citizen Georgia Van Wyck announces resignation on KRTN-2

In what has been described by analysts as a "house cleaning" Georgia Van Wyck and her entire Shadow Ministry has announced their resignation from Leadership posts in the Socialist Party of Kalistan.  Premier Van Wyck issued a brief statement to the effect on KRTN-2 last night.

"The President of the Republic and I simply did not see eye to eye on very important matters.  I can no longer, in good conscience continue in my post.  I will not pursue the President's agenda for the Republic, and as a consequence, I will not be an effective leader of the Socialist Party.  It is therefore decided that I shall step aside, to make room for another individual who is more willing to support the President's agenda for the Republic.  My resignation shall be immediate."  Her resignation was followed immediately by 12 additional statements from the SP's sitting Shadow Ministers which mirrored the language of the Premier's.

There are rumors from inside the Party that the resignation was not Van Wyck's idea.  Inside sources said that the President called a meeting of the Party's Leadership, who visibly offered him no support during the Elections.  The President asked the Premier to recall the militia, and insisted that peace was a better way to resolve the country's problems than war.  The Speaker reportedly disagreed, and the President informed her that he believed that she lacked the support of the rank and file of the Party.  This belief is supported by recent right-way/wrong-way polls among Socialists which demonstrate that Socialist Voters opposed any civil war by 12.3 percent.  The source said the Speaker refused to relent, and the President insisted.  Upon receiving a third negative response, the President demanded the resignation of the ministers.  "It was a tense moment," the anonymous source said on the record, "But the Speaker blinked and consented to resignation over being forced out from office in disgrace, which would have caused an internal split within the Party."

The SP will reportedly hold internal elections for new Shadow Officers this month.  With the resignations, the political career of one of Kalistan's most combative Premiers in recent history comes to an end.

LDP Primaries to go ahead,Government Coalition yet to be formed !

Micheal Wallace has finally declared his resignation as Liberal Democratic Party Chairman in the Party Congress a Week ago and has called the start of primaries to choose the new Chairman and Presidential Candidate of the Liberal Democratic Party come election time. Although Wallace wished to resign after the formation of a government,it seems he changed his mind on the matter, although Wallace was quoted as saying:”We have proposed a coalition which I am confident will pass therefore i have no need to wait for the official vote and can begin the process of choosing a new leader” the LDP is now going into the Primaries with very colorful characters for potential chairmen. Ofcourse the offical list of candidates will be known in the LDP Primary Congress meeting,We have confident sources which proclaim the following as the candidates: Haytham Kennedy, the 6-year-long Premier of the Republic is clearly the most highly-likely candidate for Chairman as his performance as Premier and his energy makes him a favourite among the younger Liberals within the LDP.
Sarah Furhat, the daughter of former President Ceaser Furhat is another potential candidate which may have a high shot at the Chairmanship, her performance as Lead Attorney for the Kennedy government in the Van Wyck v. Kennedy case sky-rocketted her into fame and she was nominated as candidate of the LDP in Ananto for Parliament in 2522,unsurprisinly she won and has served as a Deputy for 4 years,She is obviously highly supported by the Female-side of the LDP and ofcourse the veteran Liberals who still miss the Ceaser Furhat years.
Ethan Sawyer, the former foreign minister who ran for Chairman against Micheal Wallace however was defeated in a narrow victory may be another candidate for Chairman as He was a favorite of Ceaser Furhat when he was President. However this may be bad news for Sarah as Ethan’s candidacy may split the votes that are sourced by Ceaser’s legacy.

LDP Primaries finished,Grand Coalition formed !

The Liberal Democratic Party primaries are finally over ! As expected Haytham Kennedy won the primaries ! However his biggest potential rival Sarah Furhat decided not to run with the decision of Ethan Sawyer to put his candidacy, Haytham Kennedy won with 61% of the LDP Congress vote and became the new chairman of the party. Meanwhile Micheal Wallace delivered his final farewell and wished luck to the Chairman. Haytham in his victory speech declared a new era for the LDP !
As all this went down another question was answered the very next day,the Assembly finally voted in a new coalition government ! A Grand Coalition between the former mortal enemies of the PL/LDP/SPoK/NCP/UKWF was voted in with a total of 238 Votes of approval. Sarah Furhat of the LDP was voted in as the new Premier of the Republic. It will be truly exciting to see her first big performance and it will be interesting to see if she posseses the virtue and talents of his father in politics. An Interview with the new Premier and ofcourse the former President is on the way !

VALRUZIAN GOVERNMENT: MILITARY INTERVENTION IN KALISTAN IS ON THE TABLE. VALRUZIA MOBILIZES ITS TROOPS TO PREPARE ITS CONTINGENT.
WITH LITTLE PROGRESS AND LACK OF EVIDENT WILL OF KALISTAN'S AUTHORITIES TO END THE CRISIS WHICH IS HURTING SELEYAN AND TERRAN ECONOMY, VALRUZIAN SEJM JUST PASSED AN ORDINANCE ON PARTIAL MOBILIZATION AND PREPARATION OF MILITARY INTERVENTION IN KALISTAN.
Nowogard, August 4526

The building of the Ministry of National Defense of Valruzia

NOWOGARD - President of the Council of Ministers of Valruzia, Izabela Trojanowska has just announced that the partial mobilization of up to 75 troops has just begun after the ordinance of the Council successfully gained a majority in the Sejm. According to MOND a contingent of up to 75 thousand troops of the Land Forces of Valruzia are kept at the ready for a military intervention in Kalistan if the situation within Kalistan will not de-escalate. Valruzia is already engaged in patrolling operations on the coasts of Kalistan's Vrassa province. Valruzian government announced it intends to de-escalate the situation in Kalistan by placing the military intervention in Kalistan as a deterrent for further escalation.

Valruzia is intending to reach out to the government in Kaliburg to offer its 'good services' and act as a mediator between all sides of the crisis. It is well known that Valruzia is not satisfied with the current situation in Kalitan which is hurting the economic situation and the condition of trade in Seleya. This is a direct threat to the economic safety of Valruzian companies.

Valruzian Ministry for Foreign Affairs announced that it is working on a complex solution for Kalistan. According to MFA, its proposal includes reformation of the Kalistan's Constitution and equipping the central, federal government with more powers and abilities to enforce them. It is obvious that Valruzia is cooperating with the members of the former Kalistan Democratic Party (KADEM) which supported such changes.

S:Well ofcourse coming from a family such as mine, you do have a name that preceeds you, however i do not believe my last name or my father was much of an impact because i could be the relative of every single politician ever known but if i dont have the credentials and abilities necessary i dont think i could have come this far,i am a lawyer after all,i finished my university with a high GPA and served as Attorney as you know i was the Lead Attorney in the infamous Van Wyck v.Kennedy case.
I:The government formed is one of a grand coalition,5 parties with different ideals and principles all united under your command,do you feel pressure ?
S:I’ve served as deputy for 4 years now and when in the Assembly you have to argue and cooperate with alot more then 5 parties when making decisions etc. So i dont feel pressure but its not an easy job obviously.

Guttersnipe Renews calls for Modernization, Nationalization
Limited Nationalization Bill aims to Rebuild Strategic Reserves for the Republic

Kaliburg, Ananto
September 8, 4526

President Guttersnipe to push strong legislative initiatives

Having narrowly won the Presidential Election of 4525, and set a course for cooperation with other Parties in Government, the President of the Republic has now begun to work with Socialist Deputies to craft legislation that aims at restoring Kalistani National Strategic Reserves and paves the way for a renewed push to modernize the military.

"We asked Speaker Godiva to move this important legislation through the Assembly," read the transcript of the President's remarks.  "In the bill, the Socialists proposed a nationalization not to interfere with the operation of the economy so much as to address national needs.  The aim here is not to crush down capitalism, but to make it work for the society.  The bill I think is an important compromise that allows for the private sector to manage distribution to the public of the Nationalized materials, but also ensures that they are there to be distributed.  It also includes important price controls to ensure that Kalistani citizens can always get new cars and tanks of petrol and whatnot, without them breaking their piggybanks of their little children," Guttersnipe said.  "This measure  sets the stage for renewed strength in Kalistan's stagnant economy and renewed security for the Republic against foreign interests who have already declared their intention to make our nation into a virtual colony..  So the sooner we get on it, the better off we will all be."

The active role taken by the President in direction of Socialist Party affairs underscores the previously reported lack of faith in the former Van Wyck leadership team, and the desire to work together.  This later desire was demonstrated in independent by consonant messages sent to Valruzia in response to their interest in intervening in Kalistan's domestic affairs following the decrease in tensions.  The President is taking a definitive stance than former Socialist Leaders, and appears to reinstill the Presidency with some authority which it had lost following the reform of the Prerogative.  "The President of the Republic is the Head of State of this Republic," said political scientist Deann Guerrero, of the University of Kalibrug.  "It is correct that he should lead in matters of foreign affairs.  That the response by the Premier was virtually equivalent in content to the President's is quite promising for the success of this government, which is something the people of Kalistan have long sought.  The cooperation at this point is still tenuous, but each success further strengthens prospects for the future."
