Premier Estevez, welcoming the Deltarian Detachment to Kalistan, and answering questions about Deltarian suppression of their recent slave revolt

The Indralan Blockade is slowly strangling the Kalistani Republic, but Kalistan got some welcomed news recently.  Deltaria has officially declared war on Indrala, and has committed six cruisers and a Battleship to the theater.  While experts in Kalistan doubt this will tip the scales against the Indralan Tortoise fleet, the assistance would certainly be welcomed by the LAFA fleet Kalistan is currently fielding.  The LAFAs have engaged the Indralan Navy for a year now, with only limited success.  While losing a total of 27 LAFA crew members in various strike maneuvers, Kalistan has scored a number of hits on various light military vessels in Kalistani Waters, and has taken a toll on the civilian commercial traffic that Indrala has attempted to protect.  Kalistan has sunk one freighter ship, and has crippled another on the high seas:  Most of the attacks have come at night, while the ships are at anchor.

The Premier, Juan Carlos Estevez, welcomed the commitment of Deltarian ships to Kalistani waters.
Quote:"Well, they have offered us a guarantee.  We happen to find their treatment of their slaves rather distasteful, and there will certainly be a time when they will have to answer to the world for the wanton destruction of human life.  But at the time, we are not in the position to look a gift horse in the mouth.  Upon the Arrival of the Deltarian detachment, we will coordinate our LAFA attacks around their superior fire power, and should see more success on the ocean."

Meanwhile, Kalistan's armed forces continue to dig into positions around the island.  Given an apparent focus on naval combat by Indrala, Kalistan's forces have had time to reinforce and resupply their positions on land, and will continue to standby in case a defense of the homeland is necessary. Said Milicent Grognard, Defense Minister, "We are absolutely ready for the Faded Empire should they decide to try anything funny.  We have focused defense on the Mainland, given the essential infrastructure which is located there-  the Partisans  have also taken up fortified positions in Ananto, and will coordinate efforts with the regular Army to defend the Island if that ever becomes necessary."  The Militia and the Regular forces are surprisingly absent from the streets of the main cities in Kalistan:  One reason is the need to carry on with life despite impending attack by the Indralan fleet.

Kalistani Naval Units Destroy Indralan Super Container Vessel
Cause 35 million LODs worth of damage to Indralan Commerce
Anantanese Ocean, West of Ananto
March 8, 3988

The ISCL Sifu, two hours before sinking to the bottom of the Ocean

Kalistani units score their first major success against Indralan shipping, destroying the Indralan Super Container ship, the ISCL Sifu.  This mega ship, which normally transports 17500 Containers, was enroute to New Endralon when Kalistani shock forces aboard the 32nd LAFA pack, boarded the ship, took the crew hostage, loaded the ship full of high explosives and detonated the ship.  The explosion created a fireball which was seen for 15 miles and breeched the hull in the center of the ship.  The ship sunk the following evening, and all containers, a cargo worth 35 million LODs, went down with the ship into the Anantanese Ocean.

Kalistan lost 1 member, a Chief Petty Officer Horace Delbert, of the strike force who was shot to death by a member of the Freight crew, and who was then incapacitated.  There were no Indralan casualties-  The Kalistanis put the Indralans aboard a life boat and towed them to within sight of the Indralan Navy before releasing them, in accord with Kalistani Law.

Kalistan immediately claimed responsibility for the destruction, and vowed to continue to target Indralan shipping traveling through Kalistani Waters.

Massive Response to Supercargo Ship Sinking

Millions of LOD worth of goods headed to Indralan civilians have been destroyed by Kalistani "naval" forces. The Indralan hostages released by the Kalistani "navy" were safely recovered, receiving no harm other than a shock. The hostages are planning to enlist in the Indralan Imperial Navy once they return home so that they may help civilize the Kalistani barbarian. In response, two T-055 destroyers of the Black Tortoise Fleet surrounded and destroyed one KALNAPECO oil rig off the coast of Ananto, causing far more damage to the Kalistani economy than the destruction of a cargo ship to the Indralan economy. Despite the response, Indrala is taking up the offer of the Confederation of New Endralon, Kizenia, and Kuzaki's desire to provide more supplies to the Celestial Empire. At this point in time, Indrala will not deny any help it can get.

Indralan officers are pointing to the fact that Kalistan's use of LAFA packs prove the Kalistani's government's support of piracy, claiming Indralan naval patrols of the international waters of the Anantanese Ocean are completely justified.

Coastal Bombardment Successful, the Invasion Begins

After pounding the Anantanese coast for a week, the Indralan Imperial Navy has secured a beachhead at Eavari in Northern Ananto. A contingent of 25,000 Indralan ground troops landed at Eavari with the strict goal of taking the city, which is expected to fall relatively easily. The second half of the Indralan Expeditionary Force will arrive in the coming week, finishing the first phase of the war.

War Comes to Kalistan:  Indralans invade at Eveari
Ananto Fights Alone
Eveari, Ananto District
December 4, 3988

The remaining Kalistani regulars in port city of Eveari seeking cover as the firefight draws closer to their position

Outnumbered and beleaguered Kalistani Regulars are struggling to maintain control of the Anantanese port city of Eveari today as they are being mercilessly bombarded from both the sea and from the Indralan beachhead inside the city.  To date, Kalistan has lost between 500 and 750 patriotic defenders of the City, who struggled, in several pitched battles, to maintain control over the City's main port facilities and electrical generation and desalinization stations.  Ultimately, Kalistan was not successful in holding these sites, and they were decisively over run by Invading forces.

Ahead of the fighting, the Governor of the District of Ananto, Socialist Franco King issued the evacuation order for Civilians in Eveari and Dulnerstaad, but the invasion and occupation occurred so quickly that most of the populations of these two cities ended up behind enemy lines before they could flee to the south.  The Government of Ananto extended the civilian order to Kaliburg, and seaworthy vessels are being prepared for the evacuate of up to 100,000 civilians from the capital at a moment's notice.

In addition to losing large parts of the city to the Indralan forces, Kalistan has also lost three freighters in the Naval Ship yards that were in conversion process for Naval service.  The ships were destroyed by incoming Indralan fire, and the half sunk hulks will remain in the Naval Ship yards until they are cleared.  Also lost at the facilities is a small stockpile of naval ordinance and supplies for Kalistani naval units.  But the loss of the port was more significant in that it cuts Ananto off from the mainland-  Eveari was Ananto's primary port facility, and was the only one which could handle modern super container ships.  Any supplies that arrive on the island now will need to come through Kaliburg, and then on smaller ships.  These will be more vulnerable to Indralan reprisals like their recent destruction of a KALNAPECO oil platform in the Odufar Sea.  The noose is fully tightened around the neck of Ananto, and supply being cut entirely off, the LAFA packs will no longer be able to accomplish much around the Island, and so have been ordered to move to a new theater of operations in the waters off the mainland.

Kalistani positions outside Dulnerstaad, where heavy fighting took the lives of 385 Kalistani Regulars in the last few weeks

It is unclear whether Regulars will be able to hold out in Eveari-  Large parts of the city have already been destroyed and the momentum of the Indralans is stunning, even to the defenders.  If Eveari falls, there will be little to stop the Indralans from flooding into the entire Bluegrass Valley, and if Dulnerstaad falls, there will be nothing to stop Indrala from targeting Kaliburg itself.  To this end, Kalistani regulars have been ordered to fall back to positions in the Blue Grass plain, supporting the defenders with artillery fire and providing a safe rallying point should the defenders be forced to evacuate.

There is no telling how long the battle for the city will continue, but without an expectation of reinforcements, it may only be a matter of time before Indrala succeeds in occupying the entire town and plain, while Kalistan is forced to seek refuge in the Mountains.

Dispatches of War (Indrala)
Indrala Easily Takes Eveari, Occupation of Bluegrass Valley, Dulnerstaad Invasion Begins

In a nearly bloodless victory for the Celestial Empire, the city of Eveari fell rather quickly to the Imperial Army. With the support of naval bombardment, His Imperial Majesty's loyal soldiers advanced upon the city, sending nearly 750 Kalistani soldiers to Hell. However, Indrala was not without loss. One hundred patriots died in the name of His Imperial Majesty, no doubt singing praises to the Imperial Clan for their divinely inspired war effort.

Even greater than taking the city, the Indralan forces have effectively crippled the Kalistani navy, allowing Indrala complete naval domination over Kalistani waters. Furthermore, with the capture of Ananto's largest ports, the island will undergo immense suffering, being forced to rely on supplies from smaller ships. For the moment, the Celestial Empire has not order its submarines in the Anantanese Ocean to sink merchant vessels with known civilian supplies. In fact, Indrala has been quite gracious to the Kalistani people, allowing peaceful Kalistani vessels to enter Eveari in order to evacuate civilians. Whoever does not want to leave will not be punished, unless proven to be spies or terrorist scum.

With any victory the army must keep its momentum, especially if Kalistani piracy and terrorism is to be quickly neutralized. Bluegrass Valley will be occupied by Indralan forces.

To the West, the second and final wave of Indralan troops have begun their invasion of Dulnerstaad. Capturing the city is critical to guard the main force at Eveari's left flank. As with Eveari, Indralan officers expect Dulnerstaad to fall easily with few casualties. Upon capture, the Imperial Armed Forces will effectively have occupied half of Ananto's urban areas, paving a clear route to the ultimate goal: Kaliburg.

Defense crumbles in the face of overwhelming Force; Indrala cuts deep into Northern Ananto
Kaliburg, Ananto
March 17, 3989

The last remnants of Kalistani Regular forces defending Dulnerstaad are overrun and forced to surrender

The Indralan invasion of Northern Ananto is a complete disaster for Kalistani Defenders.  Following a pitched battle for the city of Eveari, which lasted for less than 2 weeks, the Indralan Marines invaded and occupied Dulnerstaad, on Ananto's North West corner.  The fighting for the city was intense, but in the end, the Indralan forces killed more than 1200 Kalistani regulars who were charged with defending the city, and captured another 300.  Said a civilian witness, who was among the few civilians to escape the city before it was completely captured, "Our forces fought house to house, block to block, but in the end, Indralan rockets made short work of the defenses.  We had some of these guys in my house, and they were shooting, and right in front of my kids, this guy was shot dead, and then Jake, my cross the street neighbor, his house blew up, and then the whole block blew up...  We were lucky to get out of there alive, but thankfully, my wife and kids, they're safe here in the Capital.  We're going to catch a ferry here in a couple days.  Hopefully the Indralans let us go before they do to Kaliburg what they did to Dulnerstaad.

Political Map of Occupied Ananto as of March, 3989

As it stands, the Indralan Military has overrun all of the Bluegrass Valley, the Dulnerstaad region, and most of the coastal plains in between.  The Conquest is bound to be complete within a couple weeks, and then Indrala will have a firm hold on Kalistan's northern coast.    With the capture of Dulnerstaad, the Indralan position in Eveari is deemed consolidated and protected.  Meanwhile, whatever regulars avoided capture have been routed into the mountains, and it is reported that they are regrouping among Kalistani Partisan units belonging to the Revolutionary Socialist Militia of Kalistan.  RSMoK strong points are also believed to be the location of the President of Kalistan Poppy Smith-Bennots, who has not been seen in the Republic for several years, since the beginning of the conflict with Indrala.  If Mountain positions fail, Kaliburg itself could be threatened, but for right now, Indrala is standing down as Anantan civilians evacuate the Island.

Ananto Citizens flood aboard civilian merchant ships, in an attempt to flee the Indralan invasion

Since the invasion began, more than 65,000 Anantan civilians have attempted to leave the island.  Last month alone, the sea lanes between the Capital and the Mainland were so packed, several accidents occurred which led to the death of some 2400 civilians.  Kalistanis attempting to get off the island, in light of the seemingly unstoppable Indralan juggernaut have overloaded ships and helicopters in their attempts to get loved ones, belongings and themselves off the island, and there is no telling how much longer the Indralan navy will allow the evacuation to continue.  More than 35 thousand are still waiting to leave the Island, but many ship captains have made it clear that returning to Ananto is becoming far too dangerous, given Indralan searches for war materiel and supplies, and fewer and fewer ships appear in the port of Kaliburg each day.

Indrala Consolidates positions in North, Invades in the South

In an effort to pincer Ananto, Indrala launched an invasion in the Dah Delta, in Ananto's South.  The land, known as wild and swampy land, seems like an odd choice, but reports point to Indrala's attempt to fully pacify the population centers of Ananto.  The Celestial Empire therefore moved rapidly though the agricultural settlements in the Dah Delta, famous for the local cannabis strain "Dah Gold", and developed a front just outside of the city of Dahriel.  But Dahriel does not promise to be as easy as Dulnerstaad.  Renowned 2-Star general Henry Englebert Allen, who is one of the youngest Major generals in the Regular Armed Forces, has been preparing defenses since the start of the war, and the civilians have been removed to safer environs near Xanadu.  As a result, Dahriel has been transformed into a fortress, and the 2300 defenders of the city man their stations awaiting the arrival of the Indralans. Observers report that a mere 12 miles separate the two forces, as Indrala moves slowly across the wetlands in the Delta.  They are expected to arrive at Dahriel in a week.

The first few members of the Advanced Unit of the 5th Deltarian Field Army land in Sulari

In other news, the first advance units of the Delatarian 5th Field Army have begun arriving at Sulari in Suldanor.  Removed far from the battle of Ananto, the advance team will set up LZ's on the mainland, and will eventually reinforce Regular forces in Ananto.  The Deltarians are arriving in waves, given their limited transport capacity from across the world.  Deltarian deployment to Ananto is being made significantly more difficult due to the near complete cordon that the Indralan Navy have established around the Island, though a small window still exists through which refugees are flooding back to the mainland.  There is no telling when Indrala will shut this door too, completely cutting off Ananto from the rest of the world.

Lastly, it has been reported, though these reports have been unsubstantiated, that diplomats have been dispatched to Mikuni, Hulustria to discuss the war.  Mikuni is a long time rival of Indrala and Kalistani negotiators may be shift the balance in the Ananto Sea.  Mikuni entrance, combined with Deltarian presence may be enough to counter the hegemonic force brought by the Indralan Tortoise Fleet.

Brethren on the Mainland call for Settlement
"War is not the Answer", says Protesters
Vrassa City, Vrassa District
September 18th, 3989

Member of the Society of Brethren Call for Kalistani Government to settle with Indrala

Members of the Vrassa Yearly Meeting of the Society of Brethren called on the Government of Kalistan in Kaliburg to settle with the Empire of Indrala.  Olman Diego del Toro, the YM clerk, said, in a brief statement, "This minute asks the members of the Yearly Meeting to write to and meet with their Assembly members, calling on them to find a way to settle with the Indralan Government in a way which promotes peace and understanding, and which ends the unnecessary bloodshed that is threatening our Nation's capital.  We recognize that this war is not in the interest of humanity.  As long as the war is prosecuted, innocent people continue to die.  Innocent people continue to be displaced from their homes and their lives.  Our society is decimated.  We need peace.  Kalistan must stand up as one and call for peace."

The protesters are viewed favorably among most of the citizens on the mainland, and recent polls demonstrated that there is growing sentiment toward settlement with Indrala.  Thomas Jones, the Leader of the Peace Caucus in the Assembly, argued, "When we call for settlement with Indrala, we recognize that Indrala still occupies our National Soil, and obviously, we could not possibly offer peace until that situation is reversed.  But we also recognize that the events which led to war are, for the most part, something that Kalistan could have avoided.  There is a growing movement in Kalistan, and we join the Brethren in saying, the Government of Kalistan needs to make offers to Indrala for negotiations."

The Spokeswoman for the Premier, Karen Svensdattir, responded, "The Brethren have a point but as long as the Indralans menace Kalistani sovereignty, on the high seas OR on our national territory, we fight to defend ourselves.  And we have the capacity and the will to continue to fight."  The Government's position is supported by polling in Kaliburg, which suggests that support for the war is nearly universal.  Similar sentiment is expressed in most places on the mainland, with the exception of those areas which have born the brunt of the refugee crisis.  The Brethren themselves are also split, but nearly all of them call for peace.  The Ananto Yearly Meeting, however have dubbed themselves "fighting Quakers" and have publicly stated that in the case of self defense, protection of life and family is a higher moral good than standing down before aggression.  Over all, 87% of all Kalistanis expressed support for some aspect of the war, and this number is significantly up from the beginning of the conflict.

Dispatches of War (Indrala)
Dulnerstaad Falls, Commence Pincer Attack

After only a few days of fighting, the Kalistani city of Dulnerstaad has easily fallen to the Indralan ground forces. The Celestial Empire's troops were able to quickly enter the city and defeat the Kalistani regulars. A reported 1,200 Kalistani casualties resulted during the defense of the city, while only 150 superior Indralan patriots fell in battle. Clearly, the victory shows not only the superiority of Indralan troops on the ground, but also their increasing morale, largely due to the past victory at Eavari. These culmination of events have led the Council of Military Affairs of the Celestial Empire to authorize an invasion from the South with the goal suffocate the remaining defenders of Ananto.

Around 5,000 Indralan soldiers have begun their march on Dahriel after their fast deployment from Indrala. The decreased number of troops on the southern front is possibly due to the quick and easy victories in Eavari and Dulnerstaad, leading Indralan military generals to see the need for less troops. Fewer troops, at least in the area around Dahriel, will also be much easier to manage due to the swampy and marshy geography, allowing for a faster march, as opposed to a larger force. The troops have also pledge to burn all drug crops in their wake, creating a further blow to the Kalistani economy. It is expected that, upon reaching Dahriel, the city will fall in the same amount of time at Dulnerstaad and Eavari fell. Once the city falls, Kaliburg will be ever closer to capitulation.

Noose Tightens Around Kaliburg, Government Condemns Deltarian Action

As the Kalistani capital continues its depletion of civilians, ships from the Black Tortoise fleet have begun moving into position, preparing to shell the city's defenses in the wake of an eventual Indralan attack. Civilian ships will still be allowed to exit the city limits, but searches have become more frequent. Indrala cannot take any risks now that they are close to achieving their goals.

The Ministry of State has recalled the Indralan ambassador to Deltaria and expelled the Deltarian ambassador to Indrala in protest of Deltarian policies towards Indralans in Deltaria. Furthermore, the Ministry shall act as they did with the Kalistani embassy: Deltaria will have 48 hours to leave the country, then their embassy will be searched, regardless if anyone remains.

Chief Counselor Cai states:

Quote:What Deltaria has done in the recent months makes no sense. They do what they can to defend Kalistan and defy the conventions of the International Monarchist League. They forget how Indrala has always been a friend and ally to Deltaria, helping them win their wars of the past. Clearly, they were never truly friends of the Celestial Empire and are exhibiting their jealousy.

Heaven favors our country. We will be victorious against all who stand in our way, especially through the Zoo Alliance, which is invoked. Vanuku will be able to easily crush Deltaria. That country is in desperate need of civilizing.
