Randworth - Though not officially gone, the relevance and adherence to the Seleyan Economics Community has been next to nothing. In the past years multiple nations only remaining a quiet member on paper or they recently processed legislation to abandon the treaty. In this eyes view the SEC was a failure. It didn’t look so well for this ambitious treaty to tie Seleya’s economic future together in cooperation. However that changes this year, with Gaduridos and Mordusia standing up and bringing the treaty back in use and breathing new life into it.

Ever since Gaduridos and Lodamun aided and partnered up with Mordusia, has it seen the importance of cooperation, the relevance of trade and that diplomacy doesn’t stop at words and recognition, but that economics, trade and resources are also vital parts of it. Gaduridos’s help in the construction of the Trans-Seleyan Railway, which benefits both nations, is a testament to this. The government of Gaduridos has held talks with the Commonwealth government to discuss reviving SEC, as free trade is important in their view to making the Trans-Seleyan Railway a true success of Seleyan cooperation. Prime-Minister DeWitt stated in response that ‘’our friends from Gaduridos have a legitimate point. Thus we have committed ourselves to join their cause and work together to revive the SEC in its former glory. Cooperation is the way forward, through free trade, diplomacy and peace!’’.
 
Diplomats from Mordusia and Gaduridos have urged other Seleyan nations to join their cause and to rejoin the SEC treaty. Calls were also made to the Canrille nations to join, pointing out that their Canrille connections didn’t make them any less Seleyan. Same overtures were made to North Seleya, of which only Lodamun is a member of the SEC treaty.

Mining industry take off in Mordusia

Randworth - Our country is rich with mineral deposits of sulphur, copper, iron and phosphorus and here and there some coal. However the mining industry had fallen thanks to the lack of investments and economic stagnation of the 5540’s. With the recent growth and stimulation of the economy by the past three governments more and more demand has come up for minerals, resulting in Hexlon Imperial Mining and Stanford Mines to expand their businesses.
 
For decades the biggest mining operation in our country was owned by the Vanukuans, no local company could or would compete due to low demand. With the rise in trade and demand in resources by an ever growing economy, new opportunities arose. Stanford Mines is such a company that jumped onboard to seize that opportunity.  Through the government loands and grands that were created with the subsidy for businesses the family owned Stanford Mines sold stock, took investments and opened a few mines by government lease ten years ago. Now they are thriving and opening even more mines. Showcasing that the Mordusian economy is truly strengthening.
 
Hexlon Imperial is the largest conglomerate in Luthori, but also in Mordusia. It is from origin an Luthorian-Mordusian company, partly owned by the Imperial & Royal Family of the House of Orange-Villayn-Armstead. Their mining operations in Gaduridos, Beiteynu and Luthori put their mining division back on the map a few hundred years ago. 8 years ago they set up to buy various mining spots in the country and slowly began opening them for business. Hiring various local miners and bringing in Luthorian expertise, whilst educating Mordusians to take over the leading positions. This has been a great investment in the Mordusian economy. Hexlon Imperial Mining has announced it will keep opening new mines and coordinate their efforts with all their global divisions to make sure efficiency remains a top priority.
 
With Hexlon Imperial and Stanford Mines rising, they have cornered at least 75% of the mining market between them, with the Vanukuan operations owning the last 25% of the mining rights. The Federal Governent of the Commonwealth has stated that though they like the arrangement with the Vanukuans, they are considering limiting other foreign powers from obtaining such huge influence on natural resources of the Commonwealth. The Minister of Trade stated it was one of the very topics this and the next government will have to figure out and discuss with trading partners.

Port Alexander - This month the public headed towards the polling stations to cast their party vote for the next parliament and next government of the Commonwealth. People could vote in two rounds for the Governor-General, Her Majesty's official and loyal representative and elected Viceroy, and for the parliament. The campaigning was way less fierce, especially since the total collapse of the Progressive Party, the main obstacle to the National-Reform coalition was gone.  The result was a massive swing towards both National and Reform, with the Nationals winning the majority of the Parliament, winning 77 seats and a third term for their Governor-General. 
 
The election of the Governor-General of the Commonwealth
Our readers expressed confusion over our last article on the system that was introduced in Mordusia, so remedy that we will explain to you how our system works and why you dont elect the Governor-General but instead nominate him. Our Governor-General is the representative of the Monarch, since the Monarch lives most of the time in the Luthorian Empire. The Governor-General is appointed by the Monarch and their Majesty does this on the advise of the Mordusian people. Thats why we have votes, the Governor-General-candidate with the most votes is nominated to their majesty, Queen Audrey (Empress Audrey in Luthori), for approval and she appoints the governor-general then. In some cases the monarch can also announce this voted nomination to be skipped to make place for a special appointed Governor-General. However this rarely happens. 

During these elections fewer candidates ran, In the first round mr. Wilson, the incumbent Governor-General won the most votes, securing 48,85% of the vote in the first round. Considerably more than in the previous election where he obtained 38,43%. This were the results of the first round:
 

1. Jeremy Wilson, Nationals - 48.85%
   
2. Christopher Belfort, Reform - 25,64%
   
3. Joel Knight, Democrats - 25,51%
   

Due to the collapse of the Progressives their voters split amongst the three remaining parties. With a considerable swing to the Nationals and Reform. However it seems the Democrats and Reform, like last election, maybe even more so, went toe to toe in this election. Both scoring closely similair voting numbers. With Mr. Belfort securing a bit more votes that Jeol Knight of the Democrats. However due to the Reform candidate Mr. Belfort securing second place he went through to the second round. This resulted in the following outcome:
 

1. Jeremy Wilson, Nationals - 60,17%
   
2. Simon Reeves, Progressives - 39,83%
   

With this result, Jeremy Wilson won both rounds and thus has won his third term as Governor-General of the Commonwealth of Mordusia. Interestingly this election marked the collapse of the National-Reform coaltion, marking that the alliance was no longer needed to secure a majority for the government or the Governor-General position. The Governor-General, His Excellency mr. Wilson said that it was his greatest honour to ''continue to serve Her Majesty as Her and your loyal Governor-General!''. 
 
Results for the Federal Parliament
 

 
For the election of the Federal Parliament the Nationals went out strong, campaigning to end the hung parliament, to give them the power to govern with strong and stable leadership. Mr. DeWitt promised in the debates and in his television ads that renewed investments would go to the military ‘’especially in more dangerous times like these’’ and that ‘’the economy will remain our primary focus’’. The Nationals went on the claim the spotlight, taking much away from the other two parties.
 
As the election results came out, it was clear that the message of the Nationals was heard loud and clear. The collapse of the Progressives made it possible for the Democrats and Reform to take their place as the two parties opposing the mainstream conservative views of the Nationals. Effectively ending the National-Reform coalition. The message of the Reform Party made it so that they could secure the second place in the elections. The Democrats themselves were also to secure some voters of the former Progressive Party.
 
The Nationals were able to gain 30 seats, going from 47 to 77 seats. Securing a majority of 51% of the Parliament. Reform went from 30 to 37, securing 7 seats. The Democrats ended up third with also 37 seats, gaining 3 seats. With this result the National Party can form a government with a 2 seat majority.
 

 
National Government
With the Nationals having the seats, as they had hoped to gain, to make a full government on their own, Mr. DeWitt announced that they would soon come with a new cabinet and a new plan. Though it is a right swing for the country and a considerable victory for the National Party, governing will not be as easy as it looks. With only two seats difference with the opposition all of the members of the National caucus have to vote with the government. This leaves a terribly difficult task for the whips in the Parliament. For the second DeWitt administration the Nationals will now rule alone.

Randworth - In utter surprise the Commonwealth was shocked by the sudden and unprovoked sanctions by Kalistan. The nation announced its intentions to place sanctions on Luthori, Likatonia and Mordusia over their shared cooperation through the Commonwealth and the personal union that Luthori and Mordusia share. In reaction to this Likatonia spoke that they stood firmly with their Luthorian allies and condemned the hostile act of Kalistan. Today the government of the Commonwealth of Mordusia joins Likatonia in condemning Kalistani imperialism.
 
Earlier this morning Prime-Minister DeWitt came out to speak to the nation and to the international community, sharply condemning the actions of Kalistan. It is clear that the government had not expected the level of sanctions and hostilities to happen. This was seen as a briefing for the Foreign Minister and the Prime-Minister were first held at the Foreign Ministry. Diplomats were seen rushing to airports and offices across the nation to make contact with allied nations and other partners to discuss the matter. Finally, after the government came together the Prime-Minister made his address. The following words were spoken by the Prime-Minister:
 

My fellow citizens of the Commonwealth of Mordusia,
 
Our fair nation, blooming like the beautiful red rose that marks our flag and coat of arms, has been hit by sanctions by a fellow Seleyan nation. Without provocation, without direct or indirect cause nor explanation our nation has been hit with sanctions and threats. These imperialist threats were made none other than by Kalistan.
 
Our Foreign Ministry has been in contact with other leaders of the Commonwealth and specifically with Luthori on how to react to these unprovoked hostilities. We urge all Mordusians and Luthorians to move directly towards Likatonia and from there go home or to Mordusia. The government will provide as best its able aid to flee the hostile Kalistani nation.
 
We deeply regret that such unprovoked actions were taken towards our Commonwealth. Its clear that the Kalistani government is out to expand their empire by aggressive means. Their imperialist desire knowning no bounds and threatening the way of life of all nations who by sovereign decision decide to cooperate with Luthori. It is an outrage. Mordusia and Likatonia share as many nations in Seleya a bond and a history with Luthori. It is as sovereign nations our right to associate with whom we desire. To have the legitimate government, elected by our people, not recognised because of their sham reasoning of our association with Luthori is deeply hurtfull.
 
Let us be clear. We fully intend to bring this matter to the World Congress. The International community must condemn the actions of Kalistan. Their aggression will destablise the continent and would, in their wake destroy many lives and hurt the stability of the economy. It is clear that the protection and aid from the Canrille Empire and the Luthorian Empire are needed to keep Seleya safe, secure and peacefull. For without them Kalistan would wage a war of conquest across Seleya for their sick imperialist dreams. We condemn them and hope our fellow Seleyan partners join us in this. Seleyan peace cannot exist with Kalistani imperialism.
 
Mordusia remains loyal to Luthori, Likatonia and the Commonwealth.

Addressing parliament: new military investments underway
After the speech the Prime-Minister, the Foreign Minister and the Defense Minister all went into a small meeting prior to going to the Parliament for an emergency scheduled debate.
In the Parliament the Minister of Defense spoke that his Ministry will come with proposals for massive investments towards the military, saying that ''it is great that we have assurances from various partners. However the level of hostility from Kalistan and their willingness to make threats is deeply concerning. We must strengthen our own forces. We will make a proposal to strengthen our coastal defences, air defences and improve our land forces. We will invite Lodamun to aid us in the coast defences and Luthori for the air and land forces. We must remain vigilant''. With this it is clearly seen that the hostilities from Kalistan have rekindled the Mordusian attention to the military, a side of the Mordusian state neglected for years whilst the government focused on economic growth, infrastructure and trade. The Minister hinted at giving Luthori unrestricted access to the country with their military for the safety of the nation. However this is mere speculation based on an interpretation of the minister's words and not confirmed policy.

Economy takes hit after years of growth

Kalistani embargo hurts Mordusian economy, government takes action

Randworth - For years the economy has seen steady growth, many thanks to government initiatives which create a path for people to create new businesses and for existing businesses to expand. Good diplomatic relations and trade have also boosted consumer and business confidence in the nation. However for the first time since the 5540’s our economy faced a strong economic shock which limited the economic growth, caused by the Kalistani embargo.
 
Due to reasons not understood by our economists nor our government, except for the rotten idea of imperialism, the Kalistani state placed an embargo on Mordusia, Luthori and other Commonwealth nations. This caused a shock on the Luthorian markets, mostly because the trade between the east and west passes Kalistan. Due to the large dependence on the Luthorian markets and trade with Lodamun, our trade also moves through the Ananto strait, which caused a mild panic on the Mordusian markets. Also the Mordusian economy was hit hard by the shocks on the Luthorian market. Causing a big downturn, much to the dismay of the government who has tried so hard to improve the Mordusian economy.
 
In response, the government announced investments in the military, to return to a state where we once more can defend ourselves once more. This stimulus, though the government doesn’t want to call it stimulus spending, has been focused on three targets, on which only one has one direct effect on the Mordusian economy, which is the increase in military salaries, adds to boost recruitment and rebuilding the bases. The government announced the other two plans will be announced by the ministry of Defence on a later date when details have been worked out more.
 
 Another plan launched by the Ministry of Infrastructure is to fasten the railroad construction of the Trans-Seleyan Railnetwork from the east to west coast and to the Canrille world. Though at first the government wanted this to be separate plans, the government thinks the extra work and economic activity will recover the economic growth sooner. To finance this the government has reached out to the Canrille investors and the Canrille Imperial Government to give aid in the construction, partly to cut costs but also because the connection benefits Rildanor, Kanjor and Alduria, the southern neighbours of our nation.
 
Economists have predicted that the stimulus spending will only mildly cover the effects of the economic slap that Mordusia has gained from Kalistan. The most effect it will have is on consumer and business confidence, which took a larger hit than is necessary seeing Mordusian relations in relation to trade with Kalistan are near non-existent. The shock however is deep and needs time to recover.

Port Alexander - Due to the economic situation the Commonwealth was in during the 5540’s the government was forced in the 5550’s to decrease funding to the military and to downsize all branches. The focus was on strengthening the economy first and invite allies to play a part in the nation’s protection in return for giving bases and influence in the area. Now, with the embargo from Kalistan and its threatening stance towards the Commonwealth, the country got shook awake. Now the government wants to invest in the military, with the Defence Minister Lt. Gen. William Striker announcing new investment plans for the military.
 
Since the embargo was launched and the economic shock hit Luthori and subsequently Mordusia, the Ministry of Defence saw two critical weaknesses in the military. Of course the main problem was the lack of funding, but more critically was the overreliance on external partners and the lack of domestic production of military hardware and software. The lack of investments in the microconductors, weapons, vehicles and ships makes it hard for Mordusia to produce anything for themselves in the event where producing nations are unable to deliver weapons or are unwilling to deliver them. To combat this key weakness the ministry had already announced plans to massively invest with an investment of 100 billion Mordusian Dollars.
 
The plan now presented by the Minister of Defence, Lt. Gen. Striker in parliament, entails the creation of various military industrial buildings and weapons for the Royal Army and the Royal Airforce. To do this the Commonwealth government has been having talks with the Hexlon Imperial Corporation. In days of old the corporation had huge production capacity in military hardware, with Hexlon Imperial Defense and the Luthorian Hexlon Defense Combine Inc. However these companies have little economic and military relevance as other military companies have taken their place in Luthori. However in Mordusia none hat taken their place. With Hexlon Imperial being the strongest corporation with deep knowledge of hardware and production, the Mordusian military industry can be rebuild significantly faster than starting new companies. However the government and Hexlon Imperial have stated that it still will take time before their own manufacturing and R&D is up to speed.
 
Hexlon Imperial will create two semi-independent companies for Mordusia. They will be subsidiaries of Hexlon Imperial Mordusia, the Mordusian branch of the conglomerate. With it owning 60% of the shares, 15% of the shares will be in hands of the Luthorian Hexlon Defence Combine Inc., 15% of the shares will be in hands of the Commonwealth Government. The government through these shares will commit themselves to the development of these military industries and R&D. However when sufficiently grown the government will sell the shares back to Hexlon Imperial or a subsidiary of them.
 
The first item on the agenda of the newly founded Hexlon Defense Industries with four branches: 

• Hexlon Aviation
  
• Hexlon Royal Arms
  
• Hexlon Motors
  
• Hexlon Defense Technologies
  

The first three branches will focus on the manufacturing and improving designs for their respective focus fields, with Hexlon Royal Arms focussing on arms and guns in general and Hexlon Motors focussing solely on non-aviation vehicles for military usage. Hexlon Defense Technologies will focus on military R&D, the R&D of this company is heavily regulated by the government and can only be shared with the Luthorian government and the Luthorian branch of the company, outside of that it can only be shared with approval of the Commonwealth government. Hexlon Imperial Mordusia is confident that the company can set up industrial production right away. For now it has requested its Luthorian branches to send over relevant information to get started.

Another crisis: Istalia declares war on Kafuristan & Pontensi

Port Alexander - On the 24th of April the government of the ‘’socialist republic’’ of Istalia declared a war on Kafuristan and Pontensi, reigniting a war in Majatra. The Government has announced that it will monitor the situation and will act swiftly. With the embargo of Kalistan lifted against Mordusia and our nation doing the same towards them as a result tensions flair up on the other side of our nation through this war. Causing new panic amongst businesses, fearing attacks on civilian and merchant shipping despite assurances of third powers to protect them.
 
It has been a year since the Empire of Ananto & Kalistan ended their unprovoked and imperialist aggressive embargo on Mordusian goods. During this year Mordusia and Luthori have been working together to regain lost goods from Kalistan and doing the same for them. This has been an overall difficult process with mutual distrust still high. Never the less the end of the embargo saw a return of business and consumer confidence in the Mordusian markets. As the calm and peacefull status quo returned our nation seems to not be able to rest so easily as it thought, with war breaking out a year later in the west. In Majatra.
 
Angry and bitter, the Istalians accused Kafuristan and Pontensi of murdering an important political figure within their socialist junta which they falsely call a republic. As a result the nation send hundreds of thousands of men, ships and equipment across the continent to attack these two nations, declaring war a month prior to striking. During this time our nation was caught by surprise. The Sea of Lost Souls is an important trading hub for Mordusia as through it trade flows from Mordusia to Alduria, Beiteynu, Luthori, Kundrati, Zardugal, Dorvik and Lodamun. Despite Beiteynu promising to protect civilian shipping, the markets once more reacted with shock and fear. Another blow to Mordusian economic stability cannot be afforded according to renowned economists.
 
To combat the insecurity of Mordusia being dragged into the war or worse being targeted for strikes by Istalia. To the eternal nightmare of the Government the Pontensi’s have the right to refuel and repair in Mordusian harbours. This was at the time thought to be a bad deal for Pontensi and a good one for Mordusia. However this has now turned out to be a major problem for the Commonwealth realm as it paints a huge target on its harbours for Istalia. The Mordusian harbour allows Pontensi vessels to safely refuel and resume their operations against Istalia. It is reported that the Foreign and Defense ministry have already called their Luthorian and Lodamun counterparts to discuss how they can guarantee Mordusian neutrality in the conflict.
 
With the military industry still being set up in our country, the defense minister, Lt. Gen. Striker announced that he plans to launch a new plan, backed by the Prime-Minister, mr. DeWitt, to purchase military hardware from Lodamun and Luthori to solve the need for re-arming the military until local production can sustainably take over the delivery of hardware to the armed forces. Such contracts are now being negotiated. However the drones deployed by Lodamun in Mordusia are ''much appriciated'' as was said by the minister of defense.

This year marks that anniversary of her taking the throne over from her late father. During the last 25 years her Majesty has expressed her love for Mordusia and our local distinct culture and history and the connection between Her Imperial & Royal Family, the Orange-Villayns, and our nation often and widely. To mark her joyous jubilee Her Majesty's government has announced celebration to be held throughout the nation. 

As Her Majesty visited the Commonwealth for the Silver Jubilee in person, after attending the same Jubilee in her other Realm, the Holy Luthorian Empire, she was accompanied by Prince Louis, her nephew. Prince Louis has announced that he will be moving to the Commonwealth. Taking up Royal duties as a representative of the Monarch in Mordusia, assisting the Governor-General in his duties. This marks the first time Prince Louis has joint the Queen around the country. They both first travelled to Port Alexander where they witnessed the beautiful song by Lea Wildrem. Miss Wildrem sang in the harbour aboard the popular folk song ''Watlzing Mathilda'' from the newly made cruise ship of DeWitt Cruises the ''Queen Audrey''.

After a great performance and speaking to various locals and seeing performances of various street artists, musicians and local officials the Queen-Empress and the Prince moved on to Rechtenberg where they visited the Royal Gardens and the Royal Palace. There they had visitors of various parts of the country, representing all kinds of business people, leaders of the arts and culture and talked with them during lunch. Here the Prince showed himself to be a great listener and good learner. From all accounts the Queen-Empress loved the experience, enjoying the rich cultural and diverse society Mordusia is and how its Luthorian heritage brings forth a uniqueness to Mordusia. From there the Queen went unto to the newly constructed Trans-Seleyan Railway to the province of Voisain where she met the Canrille-Mordusians and spoke with them in their native language. She saw the massive fisheries and ports which traded with North-Seleyan nations and Dovani nations. 

Before going to the capital the Queen and the Prince made a stop from Voisain to nature reserves and beautiful natural cultural sites along the way. Their guides from the Royal Nature Reserve wanted to show Her Imperial & Royal Majesty the true splendor of the Mordusian nation. Filled with various wildlife and unique plants. From there Her Majesty traveled onwards to the capital where she was greeted by the Governor-General and welcomed back to the Commonwealth. His Excellency Mr. Wilson, the Governor-General hosted a banquet in honour of the royal guests, this ended the first day of the tour. At this first banquet Her Majesty expressed her deep gratitude for the warm welcome she felt within the nation and spoke of her love for Mordusia and her uniqueness. 

The next day as Her Majesty continued her tour, she was greeted at the government offices with a march and salute of Her Majesty's Loyal Commonwealth Guard, who proudly exist as an honourable regiment of veterans and distuigished members of the three departments of the Commonwealth Armed Forces. After witnessing their grand gesture of loyal service Her Majesty took the time to inspect the troops and talking with various soldiers amongst them. Showcasing her deep admiration for the loyal service these proud men and women give for Queen and Country. From here she went to meet with the Federal Parliament and the Commonwealth Government in Randworth. As Her Majesty addressed the Parliament she was glad that Mordusia was safe, growing and ''keeping her unique culture and identity'' which she once more expressed wishing to be preserved at all costs. Though she did make a joke that ''like most dignitaries one was fed with the most delicious of feasts, for which I give my great thanks to all my subjects to worked on it, however sometimes one wonders if one could get a Kangaroo Burger, having seen it so many times advertised can only make one more curious''. This humour of Her Majesty surely convinced many of her kind and jolly nature and provoked much laughter. 

During the evening a major concert was given in Her Majesty's honour in the capital, where various artists played folk music and other popular numbers, making it a true spectical and celebration for all. Amongst the songs played at the beginning was ''God save the Queen'', to mark the nation's wishes for a long and healthy reign for Her Majesty. Here at our newspaper we also wish to express we hope to see another 25 years of Her Majesty on the throne.
