The Mordusian Herald |Humperdinck Media| Mordusia visits Lodamun for diplomatic and security pact, alliance between the north and the south?
12 February 5558
Randworth - Not only Luthori is a close old friend of Mordusia, through former Commonwealth ties the relations with Lodamun have been steady, not great or excelent but steady. To change that the Lodamun and Mordusian governments have sought contact with each other on how to continue the strong ties between the two nations in a post-Commonwealth setting for Lodamun but with without dropping the brotherly connection the two nations have as culturally & linguisticly Luthorian and Seleyan nations. To that the Prime-Minister went on a visit to Lodamun to discuss matters of trade, economic investments and common security. From insider information in the Foreign Office and responses from the Prime-Minister's office and the Foreign Minister this paper has concluded that the main goal for the trip was securing stronger relations with Lodamun and gaining another trustworthy ally in protecting the Commonwealth of Mordusia. The Government seems to have offered the Commonwealth of Lodamun a military base with a small airbase and a port at the Schismatic Sea. This port will give Lodamun access to Southern Seleya whilst it reduces the military costs for Mordusia, who is still trying to rebuild its economy and reduce its military expenditure. The Nationals have however said that their government would not make the defense of the nation be in the hands of foreign nations but that the navy is not the focus of the Commonwealth, with much of the military resources going towards the armed forces in protecting the nations landmass. The government also hopes that these talks will bring them another generous investor in the nations economy and develop the relations between Lodamun and Mordusia into strong trading partners who mutually benefit from said relations. Mordusia has been needing more trade partners as per the Commonwealth Bank's own statements. Though the economy has stopped shrinking and has stabilised, it has not been growing and actually stagnated over the last couple of years. This has not done the Nationals-led government any good as they promised growth rather than stagnation. With the GDP barely growing to 672.592.839.112,- LDP this year. With increased trade with nations such as Gaduridos, Lodamun and neighbours Alduria and Aldegar the Mordusian government led by the National Party hopes to create more work, investments, exports and imports to drive up the economic growth. To that end our government puts all its efforts into creating new oppertunities. It has been rumoured that the next visits will be Gaduridos and Vanuku.

Commonwealth to connect to Trans-Seleyan Railway
Commonwealth truely connecting through the power of rail to the continent!
December 5558
Randworth - Today the Commonwealth Government announced the first major infrastructure investment in accordance with the 5557 Infrastructure Investment Program. Prime-Minister Henry Elliot together with the minister of infrastructure announced that the Commonwealth of Mordusia will connect its new railway to the Trans-Seleyan Railway. Finally connecting the South with North Seleya. From the Trans-Seleyan Railway multiple inter-city rail roads will be upgraded and reconstructed throughout the nation, connecting all the states and major cities.
If you remember, the government announced in 5557 that they would massively invest in creating new infrastructure projects across the board with various partners. The convenent to this program was signed by all partners and the government that year. Now the first real project has been announced. The Commonwealth Government has always wanted Mordusia to become more accessable and more connected to improve economic conditions. That the government has now taken their first step towards by announcing that they will connect to the Trans-Seleyan Railway. This railway, which is a connection made by various countries in Seleya has been build in every part of the continent, with out Mordusia being the missing link between north and south. The creation of this connection this missing link will be plugged and allow people from all over Seleya to visit the Commonwealth. The start of the building project has been announced today by the Mordusian Railway Authority and M-Rail to begin in 5559. The idea is that the TSR will be connected from Aldegar to Mordusia and then moved towards the connection in Alduria. That way the biggest part of the continent can be connected faster to Mordusia. The biggest obstacle will be the investment for this project. The government and the railway companies have already stated that they will fund the project, however they are looking for international investors who wish to aid in the building of the connection. Especially help from Alduria and Aldegar is highly appriciated as stated by the Commonwealth government. The Prime-Minister said it would benefit everyone and that the construction would go faster with inter-Seleyan investment in the Mordusian connection. The PM has stated that he is going to talk with Lodamun, Alduria, Aldegar and Gaduridos to see if they are open to aid in the construction. The announcement was met with optimistic and positive news by the business community. The added connection will make Mordusia a more attractive target for investments. More companies can enter or transport goods, services and people to and from Mordusia. This positive news has been direly needed by the government, who had a hard time up untill now getting their projects forward. This announcement shows the government cant only think up projects but also bring them out and start them.

"Ignite the Mordusian Spirit", New Slogan for the Reform Party
July 5559
⁕ ————————————————————————————————————————————————————————— ⁕ photograph of Christopher Belfort receiving a round of applause during the National Reform Convention
RECHTENBURG—This week, the Reform Party, under the leadership of Christopher Belfort, officially released its new campaign slogan for the next general elections at the annual National Reform Convention held in Rechtenburg, New Orange. According to Belfort, their slogan, "Ignite the Mordusian Spirit", highlights a call for initiating a devolution movement and developing the national culture. During the convention, Belfort outlined the party's vision for decentralizing power from the capital to the regional governments, aiming to foster local innovation and self-determination across Mordusia's diverse provinces. He pitched that the movement was not just about political restructuring, but also about reigniting a sense of unity and pride in Mordusia's unique identity. The party will create its manifesto focused on strengthening regional economies, empowering local decision-making, and promoting cultural initiatives that feature distinct modern traditions in various regions. Supporters at the convention responded enthusiastically to Belfort’s speech, with many seeing the devolution plan as a way to address longstanding concerns over the central government’s heavy-handed approach. "This is about giving power back to the people," Belfort stated, adding that the proposed reforms would create a "new era of equitability and prosperity" across the country. Reactions from everyday Mordusians were mixed. “It’s about time,” said Martha Byrne, a local shop owner in Rechtenburg. “For years, everything’s been decided in Randworth, and we’re left dealing with policies that don’t fit our needs. Maybe, we’ll finally get the attention we deserve.” However, some citizens, such as Anthony Malloy, a civil servant, questioned the initiative and worried it might leave poor regions. “What happens when local governments don’t have enough resources to handle the extra responsibilities? We could end up with more inequality between the regions. I’m not convinced it’ll work.” Farmers in New Orange, however, were largely optimistic about the reforms. “We’ve been fighting for better representation for years,” said John MacGregor, a third-generation farmer. “Right now, it feels like the capital makes decisions that don’t take the people outside Rimly into account. Belfort’s plan to empower regional governments could mean better policies for agriculture and rural communities like ours.” Belfort’s slogan, "Ignite the Mordusian Spirit," struck a chord across the country. The Reform Party's push for devolution triggered a national conversation about the future of governance in Mordusia.

Election 5559 Dissolves Two-Party Parliament in Mordusia
January 5560
⁕ ————————————————————————————————————————————————————————— ⁕![]() 5559 elections results RANDWORTH—A two-party parliament is no more as the 5559 snap election gives way to the Progressive Party, also known as the Progressives. A surprising turn of events happened overnight when the Progressives won the plurality of the parliament, getting 52 seats which dethroned the incumbent National Party (the Nationals) which only maintained 43 seats. The Nationals lost a staggering 108 seats, noting that this loss was transferred not only to the Progressives but also to the revamped Reform Party (the Reformists) and the rising Democratic Action Party (the Democrats). Despite the Nationals' loss in the parliament, they still won the head of state elections, with their candidate, Jeremy Wilson, winning the second round of votes with 59.03%, surpassing the Progressives' Simon Reeves with 40.97%. This is a relief for the National Party but also a mess. They will be very likely to propose a coalition with the Progressives and possibly the Reformists so to have a majority parliament.

Mordusia explores better relations with Gaduridos
Oil, cooperation and friendship between Seleyan countries
April 5560
Randworth - The Minister of Foreign Affairs, George King, announced that the Commonwealth will send a delegation of diplomats, alongside himself, to Gaduridos. According to the Foreign Ministry, the fellow Seleyan nation reached out to Mordusia to establish better relations and explore a mutually beneficial arrangement for trade and cooperation. The visit presents a valuable opportunity for Mordusia to secure a trade agreement that could bolster the nation’s access to affordable energy while attracting foreign investment for crucial infrastructure projects.
As economies grow, so does energy consumption, making reliable and affordable access to energy essential. With no significant natural resources for energy production, such as oil or natural gas, Mordusia must rely on foreign partnerships. The government’s strategy aims to strengthen ties with Seleyan countries that have substantial oil reserves, fostering alliances to secure stable and reasonably priced energy imports. The Foreign Ministry has identified Gaduridos as a promising partner in this endeavor. Minister King expressed optimism about the upcoming visit: “The Commonwealth’s delegation looks forward to discussions with Gaduridos, exploring pathways to cooperation that will benefit both our nations. Together, we aim to address our energy needs and develop strong ties that reflect our shared Seleyan identity.” During the state visit, both nations will address potential areas of collaboration beyond oil, including joint ventures in infrastructure, technological exchange, and cultural initiatives aimed at enhancing mutual understanding. The Commonwealth’s delegation is also set to meet with key business leaders, seeking private investments that could help accelerate Mordusia’s ongoing development projects. While details of the potential trade deal have yet to be finalized, officials are optimistic that the diplomatic mission will mark a new chapter in Mordusia-Gaduridos relations, laying the foundation for a stable and enduring partnership in the years to come.

First segment of Trans-Seleyan Rail to begin construction
Connecting Seleyan Nations through a Pan-Continental Rail System
April 5560
Tamwie - The Ministry of Infrastructure announced today the long-awaited commencement of the Trans-Seleyan Rail Network, marking the first steps toward a unified railway system across the Seleyan continent. The ambitious project, initially revealed in 5559, aims to link the Commonwealth of Mordusia to other Seleyan nations, addressing Mordusia's status as the last country in the region without direct access to the transcontinental rail system. Minister of Infrastructure Hillary Hogan shared the vision behind this project: “Connecting Mordusia to the Trans-Seleyan Rail is about more than just transportation; it’s about facilitating economic growth, enhancing travel efficiency, and fostering regional unity.”
The first stage of construction will begin in the northern city of Tamwie, situated in the state of Coliwick. This critical juncture will connect Mordusia directly to established railway links in neighboring Aldegar and Saridan. With this northern segment completed, the railway line will extend southward, reaching Mordusia’s capital, Randworth, before further linking to Aldegar and Rildanor, creating an expansive network accessible from all parts of the Seleyan continent. This project holds the potential to transform trade, tourism, and travel between Mordusia and its neighboring states. By eliminating logistical barriers and providing a reliable means of transport, the Trans-Seleyan Rail is expected to drive economic activity, boost tourism, and open new trade opportunities for businesses across the continent. Minister Hogan emphasized the broader significance of the rail network, saying, “This is a historic moment not only for Mordusia but for all of Seleyan. Our shared rail network represents a commitment to cooperation and connectivity, allowing all Seleyan nations to grow and prosper together.” The government has also announced future phases, including expanding freight capabilities and incorporating high-speed trains for efficient intercity travel. With the Trans-Seleyan Rail Project now officially underway, Mordusia is on track to join the Seleyan network, building bridges to neighboring nations and promising new opportunities for citizens and businesses alike. Already various countries such as Gaduridos, Dorvik and Kundrati have expressed interest in the project and have stated they would initiate talks with the government on possible aid or investments in the project.

Commonwealth Bank publishes economic report 5550-5560
Growth and recovery after heavy recession and stagnation
September 5560
![]() Port Alexander - Every ten years the Commonwealth Bank, our national bank, makes a report on the economic situation in our Commonwealth based on the previous nine years, what has been happening in the current year, statistics from various banks and bureau's as well as statistics released by the Commonwealth Government. This year the Commonwealth Economic Report, as it’s called has the subtitle of ''Growth & Recovery''. The report details our GDP over the last ten years, the growth or decline of the GDP, the state of the government debt and our GDP in LFR and LPD. With these statistics the Commonwealth Bank gives an analyses on how to read these statistics and what they mean for our nation. Today we report on this report and summarise the statistics into digestible bites so you, the reader, can easily follow along. Presentation of the Report The report was presented by the President of the Commonwealth Bank, Pierce Hardman. Mr. Hardman, stated that in the view of the Commonwealth Bank, the Mordusian economy has been recovering for some time, albeit sometimes slowly, from the long lasting stagnation and the brief but hurtfull recession the country faced in the 5540's up to 5550's. According to the President of the Commonwealth Bank the nation should keep focussing on creating a stable economic climate that attracts investors and gives room for small businesses to flourish. To that end he comments that the report shows that the previous government had set in motion a few steps to increase business confidence and make it more lucrative for businesses to set up shop in Mordusia. Mr. Hardman went on further to say that ''the government must also help Mordusian, by investing in infrastructure as it is doing now, aid in education and sign more deals. But above all, we must avoid drastic policy changes or flip-flops. Those things hurt our economy more. But lets remain optimistic''. The Bank President then presented a copy of the report to the Minister of Finance, Richard Ashford, who gladly received the report. Upon recieving the report the Minister of Finance took the stand and began talking about the report and the achievements of the previous government as well as the focus of the current one: ''The government has for years now been setting up with various companies a comprehensive scheme to invest in our nations future through infrastructure investments. This government will continue doing so whilst also looking into reforming the state in such a manner that the local governments are empowered to be able to do more, putting money and power back into our local communities. A plan which our friends from the Reform Party will work out. We will also work on ways that stimulate small businesses, farmers and family companies. They are the beating heart of the Mordusian economy. This report shows our approach works, but that there is much work ahead of us''. What the report says Its fancy to read the words of the Bank President and the Minister, however statistics do matter and thus we will focus now on what the report actually says and what this means for our economy. Overall we can see that the economy of Mordusia went through a rough patch in the 5540's to 5550's. With in 5550 being the last year of the major recession. The economy shrank with about 0,65% to 3 trillion Mordusian Dollars (615 billion LFR / 628 billion LPD). Compared to the major 15 economies at the time Mordusia would rank as a small developing nation. A rather shocking and hard blow, especially since the Mordusian Commonwealth used to be a well developed state. This report shortly states that the reason behind the economic collapse was the neglect of the government, huge borrowing of money and the isolationist policies which kept Mordusia from attracting foreign investments, businesses and trade. When we look onwards from the 5550's up until now (5560), we can see a stark improvement in the economy. With the deal with Lodamun and Luthori, as well as Mordusia re-engaging with the Commonwealth of Luthorian Nations, growth returned to our economy. This has much to do with attracting businesses and investments from these nations and a decreasing burden on the state finances by cut backs to pay for tax reductions. This has stabilised the economy well enough to see businesses being started, Luthorian companies penetrating the Mordusian market and Vanukuan-leased mines being re-opened and improved. Humperdinck Media and Allister Media re-opening newspapers, TV-channels and the movie scene is an example of the new economy activity. This activity has seen our economy recover and grow beyond the GDP we had in 5550 and before to 3,42 trillion Mordusian Dollars ( 638 billion LFR / 697 billion LPD). Overall the economy seems to also benefit from smart government investments. The international coverage and business exitment from the major investments in the Trans-Seleyan Railnetwork seems to have also worked greatly in favour of economy growth. With new connections being planned new businesses have stated that they wish to expand in the areas the new railnetwork connects. These businesses such as diners, thee shops and stores are all investing in places and setting up shop, creating a new exitement in the economy. However this development also comes with a clear challange ahead which the nation needs to urgently address, which is the looming energy crisis. The report clearly states that the Mordusian economy doesnt produce enough energy due to a lack of natural resources which produce said energy: coal, oil and natural gas. These resources have to be imported from another place. Currently the Mordusian economy imports it directly from Luthori, however it does not satisfy the ever growing demand that comes with economic growth. Luckily the government acted on this and is holding talks with Gaduridos for oil imports, this however needs to be done quickly. The National Debt Though we do not have to worry about a debt crisis, the Commonwealth Bank does warn that the government should keep investing, but do it smartly and carefully. The debt has been reducing in comparison to the GDP which allows for more room to invest. However if the government swiches to overzealous spending the country could face a financial crisis, especially if a down turn happens again. However for now the economy seems to be doing fine, with a growth of 1,4% and growing the economy is going up. The debt was about 71% of GDP in 5550, which is above the maximum advised by the Commonwealth Bank of 60% of GDP. Through budget surplusses this decreased to 64% and then increased again with the massive investment in the Trans-Seleyan Railway up to 70%. Currently the debt-to-GDP is at 68% and going down, slowly. The Minister of Finance has stated that the hight of the debt is indeed a concern but should not stand in the way of sound investments. Looking towards the future According to the report the current and future governments should keep focusing on strengthening the economy, diversifying it and making it more resilliant. The openess towards other countries and increasing trade relations as well as investing in education remains the biggest tips the Commonwealth Bank gives unto the government. It remains however to be seen if the government picks up on these tips given to them. For now we can see that the economy is doing better and that the government is actively seeking partners abroad. Stability however in the new multi-party system seems to be an issue, will we over come it? Time will tell. |
