Emperor Declares Day of Mourning After Embassy Explosion

5594.2.22. - Helios - The KGB Embassy to the Republic of Kalopia has been severely damaged following a security breach and subsequent truck bomb detonation within the interior of the building. The truck was positioned so as to completely destroy the building's foundations; whilst foundations have held for now, the rupture was so great as to have torn asunder the top two levels, leaving more than a hundred embassy staff dead or wounded and potentially many more Kalopian civilians in the area where the rubble landed. The Ahmadi State, based in nearby Solentia, claimed responsibility for the attacks and are believed to have perpetrated the terror attack according to the latest evidence, although investigations are ongoing. If true, the Ahmadi State's given reasons for the tragic carnage and terrorism were as a response to Baeguk's decision to intervene and send 450 military and medical personnel to Solentia to assist Kalopia's intervention in the nation.

Of the 429 employees believed to be working at the KGB Embassy in Helios, at least 167 were reported either dead or missing in the hours following the attack. Key figures like KGB Ambassador to Kalopia and strong supporter of the military intervention, Izabel Díaz Zama, were found severely wounded in the rubble and are being given medical treatment by local emergency services. With local Kalopian hospitals backed up, logistical challenges may appear if the afflicted are not transferred to capable facilities. It is the worst and most deadly terror attack in Baegukese history since the year 5300.

In response, His Imperial Majesty the Emperor Hwamu officially declared February 22 a day of mourning in the KGB. His Imperial Majesty will meet personally with the families of those afflicted to console them.

As the death toll mounts in retaliation to Prime Minister Eulji Iseul's controversial decision to pressure the Senate to approve a military intervention in nearby Solentia, polls indicate that she is losing significant political ground. A recent poll of residents in Mirikapa City, Myeoggi Province, found that just 21% of respondents supported Mrs. Eulji's actions. A whopping 71% supermajority of those polled disapproved the action, with 8% being unsure. With the next elections expected to be called no later than 5596, the Hongik Party looks poised to take back Byeokwadae for the first time in more than a decade of solid Co-Prosperity rule.

Ambassador Zama given Last Rites by EKP, Succumbs to Wounds

Fransisca Pere Rubio 放立女 覇來 婁表  記者, Helios - KGB Ambassador to the Republic of Kalopia, Izabel Díaz Zama (天約佳 旲娥 似馬), has passed away after succumbing to her wounds sustained during the terror attack yesterday, 2.22, that severely damaged the Baegukese Embassy in Helios. Before dying of the burns and cuts given to her by the explosion of the car bomb that collapsed much of the building's top two floors, Zama was given her last rights by the Katolic Nuncio (普遍大使) of the Baegukese Universal Church in Kalopia, His Excellency Deodoro Sumi Nobo (天膳 首彌 盧普). A State Funeral Service was shortly announced by Prime Minister Eulji Iseul, who is being widely criticized by some political voices for her decision to initiate Baeguk's entry into the Fourth Solentian Civil War.

Zama hailed from Zantagracia, a suburb of Sinsu, and was 53. She is survived by her husband and two sons.

Communique on Beiteynuese-Xsampan Conflict

The Kingdom of Great Baeguk is closely monitoring new developments in the Red Bass Ocean following the outrbeak of conflict between the navies of Beiteynu and Xsampa. The KGB stresses the importance of the endurance of international institutions and mechanisms for the resolution of tension between states not through bloodshed, but through negotiation and mutually beneficial diplomacy. In a critical time where the governments of Terra face instability and terror directed against vulnerable populaces, an armed conflict of this magnitude between the Beiteynuese and Xsampan states is both deeply regrettable and destabilizing. Alongside its partners in the international community, the Kingdom of Great Baeguk seeks the quick and speedy resolution of hostilities in the Red Bass Ocean.

ABC Party Claims Razor-Thin Re-Election, Massive Controversy over Fourfold Escalation

5594.5.22. - Prime Minister Eulji Iseul of the Prosperity Party (繁榮黨, BYD) has won a major gamble after calling snap elections in anticipation of a political struggle with the anti-war Hongik Party. Despite the widespread unpopularity of the intervention, the ABC-D managed a tight victory by garnering 51% of the vote, a 6% decrease from their win of 57% last election. PM Eulji is already beginning by using this position of political security to call for the deployment of an additional 2,050 personnel in Solentia to assist Kalopia's intervention against Ahmadi extremist terror. Once deployed, Baeguk will have a force of 2,500 overseas participating in the war.

An Alakasipti young man Inŋaktamkura Kusin, was captured and executed by the Ahmadi state in March. This initially caused outrage against the government and Inŋaktamkura's death was used in the propaganda of the anti-war movement, headed by the left wing Hongik Party. However, the political hit was softened when Inŋaktamkura's family publicly said that they supported the intervention and that Inŋaktamkura did not die in vain. He was given posthumous honors including the Order of the Kumalan, one of the nation's highest awards for military valor.

Communique on KGB's Decision to Cut Ties with Beiteynu, Join Xsampa

The Kingdom of Great Baeguk is formally cutting ties with Beiteynu after 299 years of relations following the devastating and criminal nuclear attack on Metz-Leonid in the Xsampan Democratic Republic. The KGB reiterates its' stance that the use of nuclear weapons in any capacity threatens peace on Terra and must be opposed on all fronts. By violating those sacred principles, Beiteynu threatens to engulf Terra in a war of self-destruction.

5600 Tricentennial Festivities Scaled Back in Wake of International Tragedy

5600.3.2. - Yesterday saw the Tricentennial of the Baek Restoration (known locally as the Gwangbok Yushin; 光復維新) celebrated in front of Beonyeonggung Palace at Gwangdanmun. His Imperial Majesty Emperor Hwamu (84) was in attendance alongside Her Grace Crown Princess Baek Sohyeon (44), alongside her two daughters Princesses Baek Chaewon (6) and Chaeyeon (2). Sangdaedeung, Ibeolchan, and Taedaero were also present alongside all members of the cabinet.

Due to pressing current world events concerning the heinous nuclear exchange and attack upon Xsampa, Jesu Palace made the strategic decision to mute the events of the day. A procession of the traditional Daechwita still passed throughout Gongmangdo Capital City, beginning at Gyeonghwagung Palace and passing along the Huiganggung, Changangung, and Jesu Palaces before finally arriving at Beonyeonggung. However, the usual extravagance of the past centennial and bicentennial celebrations of 5400 and 5500 was lessened, with the format of the procession evoking a more regal and somber tone of supreme tradition.

Emperor Hwamu then read a proclamation declaring 5600 March 1 to formally mark the three hundredth anniversary of the restoration of the rites and proper ceremony in Baeguk. He was joined that evening by foreign dignitaries celebrating the Kingdom's restoration; King Amadeo and Queen Alicia of Egelion, King Birger av Hinnsby of Kazulia, and Empress and Queen Theodora Lackmann-Thaller of Narikaton and Darnussia were visiting among others.

Even as Terra was rocked by events elsewhere, it seemed so far away as the Gongmangdo sky was lit anew with brilliant fireworks instilling hope into every subject's heart, just as has been tradition for the past 300 years. Though the world may be turned on its head, it seems as if the one constant may be found in this sleepy nation of pines and rolling jade hills, lulled to sleep by the customary Beonyeonggung Taryeong.

Crown Princess Pregnant at 51 Years of Age
Third Child Expected to Grace Imperial Family

Crown princess Baek Sohyeon, 51 years old, has revealed that she is pregnant with an heir. This is in addition to her two daughters, Chaewon (13) and Chaeyeon (9). The Crown princess herself is next in line to succeed her father, Emperor Hwamu, upon his death as the new Head of State of the KGB. Jesu Palace had no further comments or information about the course of the pregnancy, but it is considered remarkable given how close to the age of menopause the Crown Princess is.

Government Officially Begins Transition to Tokundian Alphabet for Alakasipti
5607.6.23. - The Alakasipti Language, one of the KGB's 3 official languages, is officially beginning its transition from the Selucian alphabet to the Tokundian alphabet. The government has announced that all official resources in Alakasipti will be published in both Selucian and Tokundian for the next 4 years before a complete switch to solely Tokundian script afterwards.

Modern Standard Alakasipti was revived as a language more than a century ago and is proficiently spoken by approximately a tenth of the Baegukese population. Whilst it was initially transcribed solely in Selucian script, Selucian script has been seen as harder to transcribe the language's sounds to than the Tokundian script. As a result, there has been a growing and increasingly strong movement in academia and ethnic Alakasipti social networks to make the switch from the Selucian to Tokundian alphabet.

Upon the unanimous decision of the executive board of the National Institute for the Alakasipti language last year to transition to Tokundian, legislation passed months ago in both houses of the Senate to begin the formal change. The process was facilitated by the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Council (多樣衡平包容省/Diversidam, Equidam, y Peternecedam de Moim/Гӯлдымэ̄ткӣт Хуӈтумэ̄лчэ-Урэ̄чин-Умӯнтэгинин), an independent cabinet-level body represented in the Jibsaseong. The script shift will take place for all government agencies, most notably the public education system under the Ministry of Education, and is expected to be copied all throughout the private sector.
