Remembering those who fought; An Interview with Veterans of the Red Bass War
---------------------------
November 29th, 5633
---------------------------
The Red Bass War. Those three words are enough to remind many Xsampans of troublesome times. After all, it is associated with the Bargas Chenpo. And there's no doubt that the Bargas Chenpo took over the national conscious. But that does not have to be forever. Many Xsampans in the XDAN who taught against the fascistic state of Beitenyu remember the war. It's about time we serve them justice and listen to their story's. That's why we've gathered a few comrades who are willing to share their stories, even when it's been three decades. While the war technically, legally, does still continue on, there hasn't been any fighting in over 30 years. A new generation has emerged, the most traumatic event in Xsampan history has occured, governments have changed, the world has changed, and old norms have been broken.

So, for our first comrade, we have Comrade Tsering Yonten. He was a logistics officer for the XDAN and served in the aircraft carrier, XNS Boaty McBoat Face.
Quote:I remember the first engagement we were in. It was chaotic. For such a serene place like the Red Bass Ocean, you wouldn't expect it to be a warzone. My group, we were tasked with maintaining Boaty. She was just produced, and we just left Vascanian waters via the Pilese Archipelago. We couldn't afford to have any accidents onboard, any technical difficulties. We all knew our goal was pushing the front line forward. We all believed in Comrade Aurousseau's vision. The war was brought on us against our own will. But it didn't mean we wouldn't do what it takes to win. But I... I remember when we got the news of the Bargas Chenpo. It was horrifying. The higher ups back home were completely scrambled, and we had just got the order to retreat asap. I couldn't blame anyone for the confusion. We could've kept pushing. We eventually would've reached Beitenyu. We probably could've enacted revenge but then what? Have the rest of the Three Point Federation annihilate us? Get charged with disobeying direct orders to return home? We were all in shock. It was simple best to go home. We all wanted to go home.

Next, we have Comrade Louise Deval, a former crew member of one of the first encounter fleets.
Quote:Our first engagements? I remember it vividly. Those (censored) attacked us first. Blamed us for everything. We wanted peace and they spat in our face. So when we had our first engagement, it was... Horrifying to be honest. Loud noises everywhere. Chaos. I couldn't hear anything with the constant guns firing. It was like fireworks, except they can and would kill you horribly. I knew some comrades in a different ship... They came home in empty coffins. It was that first engagement that I knew, we were fighting for the right cause. For the Proletariat. I wish we won that first engagement. We were able to hold the line. Only narrowly. We needed reinforcements and got them. But it doesn't replace who we lost. We may have won and beaten back those Yeudi (censored) but it doesn't change what we lost. I was younger back then. More foolish. I thought war would be fun. Now I know it's awful. Even if we survived the war, can we really say we won? Or did we also lose?

These comrades served valiantly in the Red Bass War. And while times have changed, we must not forget their sacrifice. Especially to our comrades who were killed. They have their life for socialism, for the Xsampan Proletariat, and for fighting imperialism. We honour these veterans not because they joined the military, but because they took the risk of defending the Revolution.

Silicon for Socialism initiative begins; Silicon Industry to receive generous modernizations.
--------------------------
May 17th, 5634
--------------------------
One of the key industries in Xsampa has long been the silicon Industry. Acting as a giant within the Xsampan economy, it has acted as a vital brick in the Xsampan economy ever since the days of Dorji, some 200 years ago. Yet things have changed considerably, and the Ladakh Administration is determined to modernize the silicon Industry, and utilize it not just for vital improvements, but also for the Red-Green Revolution.

As such, Comrade Ladakh has announced the "Silicon for Socialism" Initiative. The goal is to modernize the silicon Industry and intertwine it into the Red-Green Revolution. This simply doesn't mean modernizing technology and calling it a day. It means going beyond that. It goes towards utilizing silicon for domestic production of solar cells, silicon chips, the vitals. As such, from the Cantons of Chunglakha, Dbusgrong, and Sharphyogsa, regional silicon hubs will be established. These three Cantons will be our silicon valley, if you will. Quite literally. These hubs will focus on securing silicon, refining silicon (such as literal refinement, quartz mines, smelting, etc), and silicon foundries. These foundries will be split with half focusing on solar grade silicon production, and the other half focusing on electronic grade silicon production.

Of course, beyond simply producing domestic goods and helping the Red-Green Revolution, these foundries and the Tri-Silicon Canton Hubs will be powered by renewable clean energy. It's time we put our green energy to use comrades. Alongside that, these foundries will have a focus on preventing wasted heat, such as closed loop water usage. The goal is to ensure that not only is production achievable, but also clean. With that in mind, efforts will also be made to ensure mining efforts (such as with Quartz) have minimal land damage and ensure it is as clean as possible, whilst still being economically viable for the Proletariat.

Furthermore, to encourage growth in these three Cantons, the Xsampan Job Corps will be given extra support in these Cantons to ensure jobs are readily available, accessible and viable for Xsampans in these Cantons.

The Silicon for Socialism Initiative however is not merely this. This is merely phase one comrades. There will be two other phases, and the Ladakh Administration will ensure that the Silicon for Socialism Initiative is successful. In this day and age, silicon is vital for a modern clean economy and if Xsampa is to achieve new heights and show the world what socialism can do, we must take this initiative and be bold with it. We cannot let the forces of reaction overshadow our development. But beyond showcasing the power of socialism to the world, this initiative will encourage economic growth, modernize industries, support local economies (which thanks to trickle up economics will support Canton, and then the national economy), support the Red-Green Revolution's independence, and establish a (literal) silicon valley for Xsampa.

CPX secure victory in 5635; A shocking resurgence.
-------------------------
February 18th, 5635
-------------------------
For 10 years, the Socialist Labour Party has managed to secure a mandate for governing. For 10 years, we have seen moderate democratic socialism govern Xsampa. And it seems the voters have chosen a shift in the status quo, looking to elect Comrade Ngawang Delacroix of the CPX. Many previously predicted the CPX to continue declining and yet those expectations were drastically shattered, with the CPX going from 190 seats to 253.

Already, a coalition has been established between the CPX, FLP and shockingly enough, the Social Workers Party. Work the FLP securing 30 seats and the SWP securing 24, this "Red Lotus" Coalition will see the CPX govern with big promises. With the SLP falling to 172 seats, the EPP falling to 50, the XFL plummetting to a mere one seat, and the DPP falling to 34 seats, it's clear that the status quo was simply not desired.

As such, Comrade Delacroix had campaigned on major infrastructure expansions, technology investments, continuing the Red-Green Revolution, major education reform, fighting the rural-urban gap, digital infrastructure, enacting labour reforms, and continuing economic development. Comrade Delacroix managed to convince voters to vote CPX due to her optimism, and hope for a better stronger future for Xsampa.

In any case, the election of Comrade Delacroix has seen the CPX come back into relevance, no longer being relegated to opposition. With Comrade Delacroix being the second Xsampan-Canrille elected to status of Premier, there are some drawing parallels between her and Comrade Aurousseau, but ideally without the Bargas Chenpo or another Red Bass War.

SHARE Act proposed to PAX; CPX pushes for tuition free higher education.
---------------------------
June 2nd, 5635
---------------------------
One of the major promises by Comrade Delacroix has been major education reform. Chief among those promises has been removing the tuition fee for higher education. Unlike capitalist countries which practically extort their students, Xsampan tuition fees remain incredibly low and affordable, but not entirely free. It's very rare for students to actually go into debt. However, while the system does work, what's the point if it doesn't fully serve the public? As such, CPX lawmakers have proposed the Socialist Higher Academic Rights and Education Act to PAX. While a vote isn't likely to occur until later this year, it's starting the debate for the SHARE Act.

The SHARE Act, if passed, would cut away all tuition fees for higher education and make it entirely free for every Xsampan. As such, the bill has found support from the CPX obviously, the SLP and the EPP. It's likely to pass through without issue due to that being a supermajority but there has been notable opposition. The SWP, a coalition partner of the Red Lotus Coalition has been mixed on it, arguing that the Cantons themselves should handle tuition fees. The FLP has so far not promised support on the grounds that more support for rural students is needed in the bill. The DPP has outright opposed on the grounds that the current system works as fine. So far however, the FLP may likely commit to a yes vote should rural support be strengthen as it would play into Comrade Delacroix's goal of bringing down the rural-urban gap.

In any case, the SHARE Act will likely pass PAX and be signed into law, but anything can happen in PAX. But if/when, it will certainly go a long way in boosting the Xsampan education system even more than it already is. Alongside the SHARE Act, more support for STEM services is likely to occur irregardless of if the Act passes or not. So no matter what, education reform is coming but the SHARE Act would be a major boost to education reform.

SHARE Act passes PAX; Educational reforms enacted as tuition free higher education is enacted.
-------------------------------
October 9th, 5635
-------------------------------
The SHARE Act has passed PAX. With a strong majority (The CPX, SWP, SLP, EPP and FLP voting in favour with the DPP abstaining and having some votes in favour), the SHARE Act was able to pass PAX easily. However, the SHARE Act has been modified since its inception. For starters, it has been expanded to support all higher educational institutions. Vocational schools, trade schools, you name it. Alongside this, concessions to the FLP were given, ensuring rural support is provided. Such support includes supporting the construction of rural universities, expanded support for students with housing and especially moving accommodations (to ensure students can actually move and relocate).

In any case, the main takeaway is that as of today, all higher educational institutions are free of charge. No Xsampan citizen can or will be charged any fees for enrollment. Any existing debts are erased and forgiven. The immediate benefits are quite obvious. Free education in every aspect means everyone can attend. We don't need to say why that's a good thing. But another benefit is simply strengthing the power of socialism. It isn't demanding a profit, it is building a equitable just future for all, and treating education as a right, not a privilege, is one step forward to that golden future.

Alongside this, major funding boosts has come to STEAM efforts (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) to not only increase awareness of the arts, but also ensure that Xsampan students are ready for an advanced economy, and an advancing world. Supporting STEAM efforts will ensure that the population is always ready for a technologically advanced economy. While it will take time to reap the benefits, they will be worth it for the future of Xsampa, and the future of socialism.

In any case, the SHARE Act is the first of many efforts that the Delacroix Administration has in mind. Education will remain a pillar of not just an advanced society, but of socialism and Comrade Delacroix will work to ensure that Xsampan education is the best socialism can offer.

Expanding the Xsampan Rail Network to Bianjie; The beginning of the Xsa-Bia Railway.
------------------
November 3rd, 5635
------------------
Negotiations with Bianjie have concluded with specular results. While relations have remained friendly, it's only been recent that the relationship between Xsampa and Bianjie have gotten closer. With Xsampa providing assistance in housing development in Bianjie, it was only a matter of time before new efforts at deepening the relationship would occur, and it seems it's culminated in this. A joint railway between the two countries.

With the Xsampan Rail Network guiding Xsampa for quite some time, it's clear that rail remains a powerful tool, both economically and symbolically. To benefit both Xsampan and Bianjian economies, the two shall connect their rail networks. For Xsampa, this involves bringing the XRN westward to the border with Bianjie. As such, the Xsampan Job Corps will be mobilized once again to begin work at earnest on the Xia-Bia Railway. Not only will it provide economic benefits for communities alongst the railway, and benefit Bianjie, it'll also serve as a symbol. A symbol of peace, friendship, and shared prosperity.

From Metz-Leonid to Gemun, and from Gemun to Gramdkarpo, the Xia-Bia Railway also presents an opportunity. If successful, it can open the door to a potential revival of an old movement: the Pan-Dovani Movement. However, that depends entirely on how this Railway goes and if both sides receive enough benefits. While it's likely, anything can happen. Nonetheless, our comrades in the XJC shall work until they reach the border, where it is anticipated that they will meet their Bianjie counterparts. For their efforts of the railway, we wish our comrades in Bianjie the best, and are always ready to assist them should anything be required.

Enacting the four day workweek; Thirty-two hour work week established.
---------------------------
August 17th, 5636
---------------------------
One fight that the Proletariat has forever fought for is the battle of rest. And while many battles have been won, this battle has been uphill. Even in socialist countries, we see solutions to issues, but no permanent solutions. However, a few progressive states have experimented with the four day work week, ensuring that the Proletariat has ample time to thrive and rest. It is time Xsampa joins this club of nations and enact this change to the workweek. The Proletariat deserves it.

As such, all jobs will be mandated to adhere to this new regulations. Some may dislike it, especially signatories of the fair trade agreements, but if they don't want to engage in socialism, they can simply leave. For the Proletariat, the benefits are expected to be improved mental health, higher morale and strengthing the commitment to the well-being of the working class.

Perhaps in time, this movement will spread to all corners of the globe but for now, Xsampa shall join the small group of nations who have focused on the well-being of the Proletariat. Perhaps in time, Xsampa can act as a role model for all socialism. At least on this front. In any case, another battle for the Proletariat is won, but more are always to be fought in the pursuit of Metz's dream. The Delacroix Administration is set to continue labour reforms when applicable. A comrade within the People's Committee of Economic Management, with the Sub-Committee of Labour Affairs had the following to say.
Quote:This development is bound to be great news for all Xsampans. It allows you to spend more time resting after a hard weeks of work. It allows you to take comfort, knowing that Xsampa appreciates your labour beyond simple words. Some foreign enterprises may not like it, but they have to remember. They came to us. They chose to play by our rules, and our rules are socialism.

Xsampa sends infrastructure engineers to Kalopia; Building a prosperous future for all.
--------------------------
January 5th, 5637
--------------------------
Infrastructure is the life blood of any nation. This much is obvious. And it is especially vital for long term growth projects, such as transitioning into green energy. One such nation interested in going green is Kalopia. While it is a bourgeois republic, it is progressive enough to be a humane democracy. So progressive that it has begun looking to go green. And this is where we come in. We shall assist our Kalopian comrades with infrastructure efforts, particularly with railways, city design, green spaces, and all the like. The goal is to assist the historically neutral country with infrastructure endeavors. While the focus isn't strictly on green infrastructure, helping Kalopia with infrastructure in general will be a major benefit.

While other generous nations provide funds, we shall provide hands willing to help and work. The biggest aspect is supporting Kalopia with the establishment of a nation wide rail network. This will not only help Kalopia with future green efforts, but it'll also contribute to a higher standard of living. It's a win win for everyone. We provide support and gain the knowledge that we have raised the living standards of the Proletariat abroad, and Kalopia receives infrastructure aid. The next aspects will be, of course, urban development. Kalopia wants nice cities, walkable cities, green spaces, and especially environmentally friendly cities. We are certain that our engineers and architects will be able to help our Kalopian comrades out as much as possible.

This effort will take time, but we are optimistic. Both for our workers and for the Kalopians. As they look to go green, and we continue the Red-Green Revolution, we both have much to learn from each other.
