Gemun Metropolitan Government officially launches the long-awaited metro network

Thousands of selfie-taking capital city residents crammed into train carriages on Monday as the traffic-clogged business hub celebrated the opening of its first-ever metro network after years of construction. Huge queues spilled out of every station along the ₸1,2bn lines which run almost 20km in every direction from the capital's central ward – with women, elderly, workers and couples clutching young children waiting excitedly to board. "Today feels like the history-in-making, and I feel so honoured and proud to be among the first on this metro,” said retiree Nalani Busuk after snatching a selfie in her jam-packed train car.

The large project of Gemun's underground system began almost ten years ago, when capital city's Metropolitan Government has announced that it will pursue the construction of the metro "at any cost", taking the big loans from the Dovani Developmet Fund and other possible private donors. Later on, following the dissolution of the fund, the underground network project was put onto a hold by the metropolis, as the DDF was a big part in financing already complex and expensive project denied in funding by Bianjie's central government, even though the latter would previously agree with Luthorian private companies on the purchase of 60 train cars.

In the end, it took Gemun 2 years of preparation, 6 years of construction and 1 year of testing, with pauses, and almost one and a half billion g'an of loans, budget and support from private companies, to finish the two first lines of the Metro: Lamun and Fulgiyan, meaning "blue" and "red" respectively, in Bianjie language. The metro "meets the growing travel needs of residents and contributes to reducing traffic congestion and environmental pollution", the city’s deputy mayor Gebu Layan (PCP) said. "This train will be able to carry more people than the harbour bridge and the tunnel combined during the peak hour and really takes the pressure off the rest of the public transport network," he said.

BREAKING: Khanate Yuan votes to legalise the same-sex marriage in Bianjie

As thousands of activists filled the streets of rainy streets of the capital city on Tuesday, in a historic and landmark decision, Bianjie's parliament in a 157-72 ballot, voted to legalise the same-sex marriage across the nation, paving the way to become the second nation in the southern Dovani to recognise marriage equality in Bianjie. Starting from the next week, LGBTQ+ couples will be allowed to officialise and register their marriage within the government agency officies nationwide.

"Freedom won today. Freedom to love whoever you want. Freedom to express yourself freely. In the very end, love will always triumph hate, no matter how hard some people may try", said Rong Meng, the acting director of Gese, said to the Radio 562 following the vote in the Yuan. "This is a moment to cherish and celebrate, but it has been a long and arduous campaign for Bianjie to become the second nation in southern Dovani to legalize same-sex marriage.”

The successful State Council proposal, submitted by the Vice Premier and Minister of Justice and Civil Affairs was the only one to use the word "marriage". It was backed by the March for Equality, despite the fact it could still see same-sex couples denied general rights enjoyed by hetrosexual couples, like adoption and cross-national marriage. But momentum for a marriage equality law had stalled as opponents, including some church and conservative groups, campaigned against the mandated changes. Voters would slimly reject the proposal, had it been put to a  referendum vote, according the ISUG poll from last year, and politicians have been slow to move forward out of fears of being punished in last year’s general election.

After the vote, Premier Abatai Soca released a statement, where he thanked the lawmakers for approving the bill, and thanked the activists for fighting for making this happen for years. "We took a big step towards true equality, and made Bianjie a better country", Premier wrote on his social media, adding that he hopes Bianjian vote could influence other places in Dovani to approve same-sex marriage.

Ersangi to become the university town and the educational hub of Bianjie

ERSANGI: It's not a secret that the government has been open about their intentions to increase the quality of life in the nation, through many different tools, like investment in the infrastructure, healthcare, jobs, and most importanly, education. And earlier this week, exactly the latter became the topic of discussion, with the Ministry of Education, provincial and city administrations of Muduria and Ersangi, respectively, announcing that Ersangi, provincial capital of Muduria will become Bianjie's newest university town, with the State Council attributing up to 750 million y'an to the local administration in Ersangi to help with the major project of transforming the city of just 89 thousand people into a modern university town, expected to attract students from all over the Bianjie and beyond, across the southern Dovani region.

In the heart of this project, and the reasoning as if to why the State Council chose Ersangi is one of the best performing universities in the nation, Ersangi University of Technology (EUT), home to almost 8 thousand students living in the central and northern provinces of Bianjie, already establishing itself as the major regional science hub. According to the education minister Logiya, EUT presence already provides enough academic resources and infrastructure, to just go off and expand out of it into even bigger and stronger education hub. "What we are doing here is simply helping Ersangi out by rightfully recognising its status as the major academic point of our nation. We are not gonna simply erect new buildings, we are putting forward a plan, that will use already existing numbers and people, and transform it into a steady and sustainable growth", Logiya said.

The project, called "The City of Knowledge", include a detailed plan of the expansion of the existing infrastructure and provision of required necessities for the students and locals. Among those is the construction of new campuses for the EUT, specifically aimed at the Faculty of Applied Sciences and Faculty of Engineering, as well as the new reasearch centres and innovation hubs in those and other faculties of the university. The construction of up to 150 new dormitories for the students, both current and future, with rent subsidies or price cuts for the low-income students and students coming to EUT from places beyond provice of Muduria. "It is highly important that we create an affordable environment for our current and future students. They must spend their savings on the books, researches, and personal lives, but not on something that is a right of every single human being", mayor of Ersangi Nikan Arurote. Also, for more than 20 years now, Ersangi has already been connected to the international railway line between Bianjie and neigbouring Xsampa, called Xsa-Bia Railway (XBR), with the line connecting capital cities of two nations, and other secondary cities, including Ersangi. The connection of the local transit to the railway, allowing for easier and more accessible movement for students coming from afar, or internationally, like those from Xsampa, for example. At the time, within the city itself, there will be the expansion of current public bus lines, in addition to the construction of tram lines between campuses and dormitories, with cheap prising for students.

"Clearly, we will also make sure students have a job in the city, and we will create all required conditions for the businesses opening and thriving in the city, by allowing tax incentives for the next five years, starting today. Besides, we are ready to help students open their own small business in Ersangi, because we believe that students themselves could know better. We believe in the "by the students, for the students" model, and that is how we will operate", said mayor Arurote.

"The City of Knowledge" project is aimin to double the student population of the Muduria provincial capital by 5660, to be not only national, but regional, if not continental centre of education, science and research, with ideas of hosting regional summits in the city, while still being an important benchmark in urban-academic cooperation in Bianjie. "Ersangi will not be a simple university town just based around one university, it will be a living and learning ecosystem, that will be thriving on its own, later on, that's what we hope for with this", finished minister Logiya.

Orchid Palace announced the death of the Khan Erdeni
The forty-two-year reign ended after a long-standing battle of Khan Erdeni with prostate cancer

Khan Erdeni passed away at the Gemun Royal Hospital earlier today, at the age of 76, after reigning the Bianjie Khanate for more than forty years, thus ending the Elhedotori era. Erdeni came to power in 5613 following the abdication of his father, Ajige, overseeing the death of the country's traditional party system, Bianjie's economic growth, the reversal of the isolationist policies and growing regional presence. 

Nurhaci, the late Khan's oldest son and the new Khan, said that the death of his father was a "moment of great sadness" for him and the royal family. "We lost a great son of the Bianjian nation, who fought for the unity and strength of our beloved nation, and I have no doubts that his passing will be felt across the country, from north to south, east to west", Khan-in-waiting Nurhaci said in his first address to the nation following the announcement from the Orchid Palace.

Premier Abatai Soca, in his briefing later today, said that Khan Erdeni was the "heart and soul" of Bianije, being the "source of stability" on which the nation had lived these past forty years. Regarding the new Khan, Premier Soca pledged his and the government's full loyalty and devotion, adding that the government will ensure that the transition to the Khan Nurhaci's reign is "smooth". According to the Premier, the funeral will happen in June, while the enthronement of Nurhaci could happen in late October this year, with preparations already taking place earlier this year, as part of the traditional plan prepared by the Privy Council in case of the monarch's death.

Sekowan government actions are "concerning", says MFA spokesperson

GEMUN: Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Gunbu Mordin, attacked the Sekowan government on Thursday, following the announcement from the Eiwa on the construction of seven so-called "megaprisons" across Seko, to address the alleged rising crime in the western Dovani nation. At the daily briefing of the foreign minister, Mordin said that the Sekowan government's actions are "concerning and dangerously authoritarian", as the Takamura government plans to discriminately jail opposition activists, according to the local news outlets.

"Let us be honest with each other for a second here. What danger the sex workers pose? What about the education workers? And what is it from their actions that is 'radical'? Actions like these will not just not stop, but will rather increase the chaos and instability in the region, something which we wish to avoid", spokesperson Mordin said. "Which is why, on behalf of the Bianjian foreign ministry, I am today addressing the government in Seko, urging it to halt the plan to build those 'megaprisons', and return to normalcy and democratic principles."

Mordin says that in case the Sekowan government does not stop the democratic backsliding, Bianjie will follow Xsampa, and sanction the western Dovanian nation, especially if it moves foreign with the proposed ban of the left-wing parties. "This is not any restoration of order, this is an attack on people's right to freely express themselves", said Mordin.

Khan Nurhaci ascends to the throne in a centuries-old ceremony

In a brief yet tradition-filled ceremony, Nurhaci formally proclaimed his ascension to the Salt Throne as the new Khan of Bianjie. Appearing in a traditional sky blue and golden robe, the thirty-four-year-old monarch became officially the new Khan in a centuries-old traditional ritual, which was attended by royals and officials from six friendly countries around the world. The ritual formalised the ascension of Nurhaci to the throne, following the death of his father, and former Khan Erdeni.

In a proclamation of the ascension, Khan Nurhaci paid tribute to his predecessor: "Khan Erdeni has always had Bianjie on his mind, praying for its past, present and future sons and daughters, sharing the joys and sorrows with us all, showing compassion and commitment to serve the people". Nurhaci ended his proclamation with following words: "I hope and pray, that Bianjie grows and prospers, through our joint wisdom and efforts, making it stronger and more developed by each next day passing by, make Bianjie a worthy contributor to the world peace, regional cooperation and welfare of the mankind. And I shall do all in my powers to achieve just that".

Following the enthronement ceremony, Khan and Premier held a private ball with visiting guests in Orchid Palace, with the delegations from Dolgava, Hutori, Luthori, Xsampa, Egelion and Nadiya making their time to take part in the "afterparty" of the ceremony. Later that day, Premier met with the Nadiyan delegation in the Palace, where the two sides discussed current and future relations between the two nations, with Premier Soca announcing the recognition of the Nadiyan Confederation. Bianjian chief of government, said that the two sides agreed on a comprehensive trade agreement with the northern Kerisian archipelago country. "We welcome the delegation from the sunny Nadiya in our capital, and it is a great moment for both of our nations, as we enter a new level of relations, as well as closer cooperation between our markets, which will be a great improvement for both Bianjie and Nadiya", the premier stated.

Bianjie government pledges support for homonymous archaic language development
Third official language of the Khanate, formerly used by most of the nations millennia ago, now fights for its life

In a joint press conference earlier yesterday, the ministers of the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Tourism, alongside the Ministry of Education, announced that the State Council will provide financial support for projects aimed at revitalising the language, as well as create programs and free courses for the citizens across Bianjie, in a move of the Bianjian government, hailed by linguists and cultural activists, to keep the archaic homonymous Bianjie language alive, amidst worrying reports from the independent National Educational and Cultural Organisation (NECO) on the endangerment of the formerly main language of the nation.

During the press conference, the culture minister, Fodo Aturamo, said the central government plans to allocate up to 250 million g'an over the next five to seven years, for grants on educational and cultural projects aimed at supporting language, expanding its speakers in both urban and rural settlements, as well as the more bureaucratic and scientific documentation and preservation of the language. "We are protecting the existing knowledge about the language of our ancestors that we have, while we also expand the number of speakers, and thus the culture that the language brings with it. It's not just another program; it is a responsibility and a promise. A promise to preserve our culture", said the culture minister Aturamo.

The archaic language, usually referred to homonymously as Bianjie language, was once the common language of the whole country, spoken by both elites and common folk, especially in the rural parts of the country, with its influence and historical impact still found in the cultural traditions, common names of citizens and rituals, royal or religious. Yet, following the colonial occupation of Bianjie by various Dovani empires and regimes in the past, the language has been rapidly declining, resulting in fewer than 35 thousand native speakers of the language today, mostly found in the northernmost province of Irudai.

Government programme, announced by the culture and education ministers, Aturamo and Logiya, respectively, besides the financial support for the private citizenry initiatives, will also focus on two other pillars: cooperation with the NECO, which will be producing materials, training education workers, and partnering with tertiary institutions to standardized grammar and calligraphy of the language, as it is drastically different from Kunikata and Yindalan; and the creation of the online platform, which will include official vocabularies, exclusive library texts in Bianjie language, as well as translated into Bianjie other important documents and cultural sites, aiming to normalise passive exposure for the citizens.

State Council launches a large-scale solar panel construction initiative as part of the energy independence strategy

As the economy of a small yet influential southern Dovanian nation, such as Bianije, is growing, the demand to secure and provide essential energy supplies for its citizens, visitors, and migrants increases as well, with some independent analytic agencies mentioning a 5% rise in consumption in the last 5 years. And with Bianjie being currently over-reliant on oil and coal as its primary energy sources, something that has been called into question by many citizens, especially environmental pressure groups, which persuade the government to close the mines, citing risks to life. And thus, the central government in Gemun began looking for alternatives.

One of the alternatives clearly stood out for the Premier Soca and his government. The solar power. For Bianjie, there is a lot of potential in growing the solar power industry, as the nation is actively irradiated by the sun in the coastal south and north equally, especially in mountainous provinces, with fewer people, but higher peaks, something that makes them ideal for solar energy generation. A stable, relatively cheap and reliable energy source interested the State Council, leading the national government to develop, alongside hundreds of local and foreign experts and scientists, a national energy independence strategy, with the support of the solar power industry as its primary initiative.

Earlier this week, multiple ministers held various press conferences and briefings regarding the energy independence plan, going piece by piece, describing in detail the actions the government plans to take to develop and grow a steady and strong energy system in Bianjie. Minister of the Environment and Energy, Tebuhe Nonr, one of the leaders and main actors of the strategy, told the media that the ideal scenario and end point of the strategy would be to "develop so much energy domestically, to the point where we will be the ones to export it abroad, not the other way out". 

Regarding the solar panel initiative, Nonr said that Bianjie is talking with "several foreign governments and businesses" to cooperate on the resource and production issues. Nonr added that the government is working on a number of laws and decrees which will be aimed at supporting the usage and production of solar panels, both for personal use, e.g. homes' rooftops, or bigger operations, like solar farms. "We are currently looking into pricing and how to prioritise solar energy, without overwhelming the market", the energy minister said. According to the finance minister, Delan Aisin, also present at the press conference, the State Council will be using feed-in tariffs to popularise the usage and promote the growth of the industry. "We want an industry that is driven by communities and people, not corporations, which is why we wish to incentivise people using it, through various tools, and FIT is one of those", Aisin told.

Befucom to begin operations in Kalopia, the company's CEO announces
Even though it will operate under a different name, Befucom-owned telecom started operating in Kalopia, marking the first non-Dovani nation to join the list

Befucom CEO, Eidu Ruburi, announced on Friday that the Bianjie state-owned company has finalised an agreement with both the Kalopian authorities and businesses, and will enter the Majatran market in the third quarter of 5658. Expansion to Kalopia marks the first foray of Befucom outside of the home continent of Dovani.

Despite being owned and managed by Bianjie's national telecom, services in Kalopia will be operated under a distinct brand name and design tailored to the Kalopian market name and design, CEO Ruburi told the press. "Even though we are more than ecstatic to keep expanding our services abroad, the idea of the Befucom brand is to be the Dovani powerhouse, and Dovani alone. So, a distinct brand in Kalopia is both about our vision, and also respect for the Kalopian market and our future users". The expansion is expected to formally commence by August this year, with test rollouts focused on Kalopia’s major urban areas, like the capital city, Helios, as well as Ammopoli and Eleopolis.

According to Ruburi, the deal was months in the making and involved negotiations not only with Kalopia’s government, but also with key business consortia and local government. "We’ve received strong signals from Kalopian authorities that they welcome competition", she said. "We are confident our entry will expand consumer choices by presenting a cheap, yet high-quality alternative". Ruburi added that Befucom opting in for a separate entity, instead of acquiring a local telecommunications company, was a joint decision by both the Bianjian telecom, as well as a request from the Kalopian government, to avoid any potential risks of creating monopolies. "And we respected that request with pride. Obviously, kickstarting operations from zero will always be harder, but we have experience and resources, and that's all it matters", Ruburi said.

Now, depending on the results in Kalopia, Befucom might consider further expansion into Majatra or other continents worldwide, or keep itself to Dovani exclusively. And while it is risky to even try an expansion, this sudden and major one, as mentioned by the company's CEO herself, Befucom has experience and resources, so the question is whether is can use it the right way.

Socialists secure an absolute majority in the Yuan, despite New Dawn failing

GEMUN: Ruling Socialist People's Party has secured yet another five-year term in office, but this time differently. For the first time in party history, socialists have secured an absolute majority of seats in the Khanate Yuan. Receiving almost 48% of the vote in the election allowed SPP to win 115 seats, which is exactly the bare minimum required for an absolute majority in the 229-seat legislature. Premier Abatai Soca, and leader of the Socialist People's Party, thanked the voters for turning up to vote and allowing his party to achieve the "astounding victory".

But, even though socialists were celebrating, others weren't this happy during the election night. Junior coalition partner, and close ally of SPP, New Dawn, for the first time in the party's 20-year history, has fallen below the parliamentary 3% threshold, needed to participate in the seat distribution. "We accept this result as a grade from the voters of our actions, and we will work towards reevaluating our work", said ND leader Logiya. "Unfortunately, we didn't work hard enough to keep our representation in Yuan, and I apologise to all of our members for this". Logiya would then proceed to announce his resignation as party leader. According to sources within the party, there is a growing movement of members pushing for a merger into the SPP.

On the right, a dreadful night as well, as the already barely holding opposition Democratic People's Coalition was unable to win any momentum or seats, leading to the worst result for the right-of-centre parties (BDA, PFP, INP) in recent history. BDA leader, Murhaci Busai, elected just 3 months ago, said he will not be leading the joint opposition in the newly inaugurated legislature, and will step down immediately, as the right-wing is a permanent crisis, evidently, similarly to the National Conservative Union, which also lost a seat, and almost fell below the threshold.
